mr_teisco_delrey Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 Let's just Grossman doesn't play like he just drank a six of Hop Devils! Focus Rex, focus.
DerekRx Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 ^Hah! You see that, Derek? Heath will come up to Buffalo! Hey, I'll come to Buffalo too (someday when its not snowing). After all, there's still a few breweries up there I need to get to. And I am kinda running low on Anchor Bar sauce. Maybe Heath can pick me up on his way, he's got AWD, I don't.
mcjaco Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 ^Hah! You see that, Derek? Heath will come up to Buffalo! Ugh, why would anyone want to go to Buffalo? Especially this time of year? Matt "me likes chemicals and tree bark" Jacobs
DerekRx Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Still not ready for the 12 days of Christmas, after last weekend I'm still very much on an IPA kick. First, with my dinner out of Prime Rib, I decided to get one of the only good brews offered, a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Bret would have been in heaven at Austins with a nice Prime Rib sandwich and a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Pretty tasty! That west coast goodness that I miss so much Back home, time for a Lagunitas IPA The best thing offered in a world of Heineken, Corona, Bud, Bud Lite, and Amstel Light
Rugged One Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 The Fifth Beer of Christmas. Yet another of the infamous Ridgeway Brewing offerings. The Warm Welcome English Strong Ale/Nut Brown, complete with "Santa getting his buns toasted" label. Not bad. A little too watery but had some decent taste to it. Fairly sweet and malty with a hint of nuttiness at the end.

Scaparri Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Let's just Grossman doesn't play like he just drank a six of Hop Devils!Focus Rex, focus. No worries! SexyRexy pulled it together. Everybody has their rough periods. Now we can sit back and relax through week 1 of playoffs since our Bears have a bye!
mcjaco Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Ah, to get in the right frame of mind for the game last night I had multiple quantities of this fine brew. It's delish! Hop bliss
DerekRx Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 Wow, a HopDevil IN a Greak Lakes pint glass. Wally must be seriously yearning for a trip back East! and my leg is proud to call you a friend, Matt Jacobs!
DerekRx Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 Tonight was pretty good to me. First off, it was time for me to attack that growler of Odyssey IPA from Sly Fox that's been in my fridge since Friday night. Secondly, it was taco night. Could things get any better on this 12 Days of Christmas Eve?! OMG, they can! Round 3, with Tacos! Could things get any better? Round 2, still good stuff Its hoptastic, though I can't really taste all 11 different types of hops. Need a better palate! Gotta break open the growler while its still good
Rugged One Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 Tonight, I figured that I needed to work on more of this Stone 10th that I have laying around, lest I age out all that fresh hop character. Still holding up, so far...
PhishyBrewer Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 Wow, a HopDevil IN a Greak Lakes pint glass. Wally must be seriously yearning for a trip back East! January baby... January!!! I just hope I can find Hop Devil in Cleveland.
DerekRx Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 ^If you can't, you know where there's ALWAYS a HopDevil! Decided I may as well finish the night, no need to worry about "if a growler is good for 48 hours or not!" Done! and I still solved the mystery on House! This is a young, hearty liver in action. Don't try this at home those under 21
PhishyBrewer Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 Got some crap from work for Christmas. Beer... imagine that!
Scaparri Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 This past weekend, the lady and I went to Claddagh, a very small Irish pub chain mainly in the midwest. I got a Murphy's Stout. It was a good strong Irish stout, kind of like a Guinness with not as much bight, but a little sweet with an ever so slight chocolate after taste. It made my taste buds dance. That is some damn fine beer.
Juggler Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 Ah yes, not posted on here recently. So this evening it's Juggler's own. Smack lips and make an "Ahhhh" sound. Take glass in hand and sample the delights on offer. Allow head to settle. Approach barrel and angle glass for the perfect pour.
DerekRx Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 Its December 13, 12 days before Christmas. So, what a perfect time to start documenting my 12 beers of Christmas. First up, Lagunitas Brown Shugga', a Barley Wine. Very strong alcohol taste mixed with a good sweetness (from the brown cane sugar added to it) and also some fruitiness, like plum. Also a minute hint of jasper, sage, and other things people don't actually ever taste. On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me, beer! (actually, I gave it to myself) Brown Shugga, how come you taste so good
Rugged One Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 The Sixth Beer of Christmas and part deux of Ridgeway Brewing Elf trilogy, the Seriously Bad Elf, a English Strong Ale. This wasn't what I was expecting, very light, more like a pale ale. Very strange taste, with malt first and then some fruitiness (perhaps juniper?), and finally hops. Not really my cup of tea. This Elf was up to no good with my palette. Seriously.
DerekRx Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 For the second beer of Christmas, I took myself to Stoudt's Brewing Company down the road. They've got some pretty good stuff, but its usually the same stuff all the time. Well luckily for me they got bored recently and starting brewing some new stuff, just in time for their 20th anniversary! For the 2nd beer of Christmas, Stoudt's Chocolate Nut Brown Winter Ale was up to bat. They took their regular Winter Ale and tweaked the recipe a bit, from a normally amber ale/porter mix to a nut brown. Then, they infused cocoa into the whole thing, giving it a really good almost stoutish finish. Really good stuff, and not much alcohol taste. Then, since I was there, I grabbed their cask of the moment, the Scarlet Lady ESB with Chamomile. Also very good stuff! Seriously, it had chamomile in it, and you can taste it (unlike other random dumb things people claim is in their beer) The cask conditioned was wow, room temperature bitter (like England) but with Chamomile finish. Soothed the soul! Chocolate Nut Brown Winter Ale; cocoa smell, nutty start, nice chocolate/coffee finish
niiicolaaah Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 There is beer with cocoa in it?? And beer with chamomile in it? I might end up liking beer after all! (ok probably not)
thecoasterkid Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 I just made a trip to my local Beer Store and LCBO, so I've got a bunch of new beers to try. I was exstatic to find a sampler pack of Samuel Smiths that not only included 3 of their beers, but also a glass and a couple coasters. Here's my upcoming beer list that I'll be posting this week: Tuborg Gold Faxe 10% Stiegl Pils SS Nut Stout SS Pale Ale SS Oatmeal Stout (this is my most anticipated of the group) I'm going to make a return trip fairly soon because they also have the SS Holiday welcome beer that I want to check out as my first seasonal beer. We honestly have an extremely limited selection up here. The Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout is the only beer in the stores up here that cracks the top 100 on the ratebeer.com list. If anyone else on here uses Ratebeer.com then you can check my list that is quickly growing. Just look up Goodeone. And if you've got an account on there please post your name so that I can check out your list too!
mcjaco Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 ^ Just so no one gets their undies in a bunch about underage drinking, the legal age to partake in Canada is 19, right?
PhishyBrewer Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 ^No... I live under a rock. I didn't know that.
thecoasterkid Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 Yes it is 19 here, which is the only thing that I'm NOT looking forward to for the Mid-West trip. You guys really need to relax on that whole drinking age thing. 21 years old is ridiculous.
mcjaco Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 ^No... I live under a rock. I didn't know that. Wally, I know it's 19, other younger members may not......
