jamez9579 Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 I had 5 Miller Genuine Drafts then moved on to some Kesslers. Boy do I have a really good buzz going!!
DerekRx Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 Decided to try another Old Dominion brew this afternoon. If I can taste it with a cold, I'll have to save some for when I can actually taste! The OD Pale Ale. I have a cold, but its pretty good
PhishyBrewer Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 I grilled, yes GRILLED, our Easter ham and Karen and I shared a bottle of Delirium.
Bibitte Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 I've been on antibiotics for the last 10 days... But now I'm back! (And guys, american beer tastes nothing compared to what we have here... well... IMhbt/dO (In my humble beer tester/drinker opinion))
FlyerACE1 Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 I've been on antibiotics for the last 10 days... But now I'm back! (And guys, american beer tastes nothing compared to what we have here... well... IMhbt/dO (In my humble beer tester/drinker opinion)) But perhaps you just haven't had the right American beer then? If you're talking Bud (sorry Wally), Miller, Coors or any of the big domestics then I agree with you. However, I'll take American micro-brews over Canadian any day however in many cases Belgium and German beers have the edge over them all. To each is own...
FlyerACE1 Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Man, it's been a while since I posted some photos on this thread. Hasn't meant that I haven't been drinking beer because based on the amount of bottles we recycled last weekend, Ellen and I have been doing pretty good. Any way, I have lots of catching up to do but I'll start with the latest first, from this past weekend. First, we start at Daruma, a Japanese restaurant we love where we met up with my sister. The second group of photos are from afterwards at home where we sampled some beers given to us by Derek and Heath. Thanks guys!! Ellen tries the Apricot Weizen. She liked it but I had my reservations. This thing has the most fragrant fruit smell ever and the apricots are very heavy in this brew. Must be great for the fruit beer fans. Thanks for sparing me the change, Heath. This was a funky tasting wheat beer that smelled like dirty feet and tasted what I imagined would be along those lines as well. Not good! Next up was Magic Hat's newest, Circus Boy, thanks to Heath. Ellen goes with the Pyramid Hefeweizen and lemon, something she enjoyed immensley! Ellen reacts with her own hop face! Not a chance! One of the best and most hop heavy IPA's I've ever had! Here is my best hop face!! For me, it's the Thunderhead IPA. Will it disappoint?? Back at the house it's time for our first ever sampling of Pyramid brews thanks to Derek! Vicky isn't of age yet so she sticks with Bud...ummm...I mean water. Gotta say, I like this brew! Had it at the Beer Fest and didn't care for it back in the fall but the second go around was nice. Very unique flavors in this ale! Ellen is real happy with her sushi platter and a mug of Soba Ale! Daruma does not have a liquor license so we have to bring our own. Since I'm not a fan of actual Japanese beer, I purchased something made with Japanese ingredients and for a Japanese chef, Rogue Morimoto Soba Ale, as shown off by Ellen.
DerekRx Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Hooray! I was beginning to think Adam joined AA or something! As for Tom, not so sure yet, maybe he got whacked in the head with a golf ball or something. Getting over another cold (stupid colds!) so its good to be back to drinking* Starting out with the Old Dominion Spring Brew again since it's a lovely Spring afternoon. *I didn't drink at all for 1 whole day! I may have cut my hair too short, but I don't care, I have a beer! I like the change in seasons because it means new beers come out
DerekRx Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 I often wondered where my love of beer came from. My mom can't handle anything more than O'Douls or Coors Lite, my dad never drank, my grandfather drank, but crap like Pabst Blue Ribbon. And then tonight my questions were answered when my grandmother ran out of wine and needed something to drink. I suggested a barleywine, (being a smart-ass, since it has 'wine' in the name) and she took the bait, AND LOVED IT! Why my Grandma is, of course! Who is drinking the Victory Old Horizontal? Its super hoptacular! Next for me tonight, a double IPA
Rugged One Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 No problem helping you save some money Adam. There's a reason I gave you and Derek my other two Circus Boys. It stinks! Avoid their IPA as well. It's not worth it either. Speaking of IPAs, I tried a new one from Otter Creek. Their 15th Anniversary IPA specialty release. It was OK, I guess considering this is the hoppiest thing I've ever had from them. Hops were a little week up front but then grew stronger the longer I worked on the bottle. The Otter Creek 15th Anniversary IPA. Not too bad. I'd like to see them try and work on a regular release IPA sometime though.
Sean Menefee Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 My girl and I visited our weekly spot at BJ's Brewhouse in Folsom. I had the badass french dip and a... that is slowly turning into my favorite brew. I didn't have the D50 with me to snag shots of the goodness but you can read up about "Nutty" below: Nutty Brewnette is a unique American-style brown ale. A blend of four different dark malts produces a flavor profile that is sweet with "nutty" notes like Newcastle. But a healthy dose of hops makes this beer hoppier and more balanced than most English brown ales. About the Style: Brown ales have existed in England for hundreds of years but the classic brown ales of northeastern England are a more recent phenomenon. Ales like Newcastle emerged during the first half of the 20th century as a sweeter alternative to the hoppy pale ales that had taken England by storm. Newcastle has become such a classic that it is the most popular bottled beer in England and an immensely successful import. The profile is not overly sweet but definitely malt-accented with notes of toffee and caramel followed by a nutty finish. American interpretations of brown ale tend to be more aggressively hopped. Although this results in a more balanced beer, the malt character is often lacking or completely overwhelmed by hops. When BJ's brewers formulated the recipe for Nutty Brewnette, our goal was to produce a distinctive beer that combines the rich, nutty maltiness of an English brown ale with the spicy and bitter hoppiness of an American brown ale. The result is a deliciously complex and well-balanced beer that has become the newest addition to BJ's regular lineup of world-class beers. Style: Brown Ale Alcohol: 5.4% by volume Malt Varieties: 2-row pale, English Crystal, Briess Victory and Special Roast, Chocolate Bitterness (IBU): 35 (approximately) Starting Gravity: 1.060 Final Gravity: 1.018 Hop Varieties: Bullion, Kent Goldings, Willamette, UK Fuggles Yeast type: Top fermenting Color (SRM): 16 http://www.bjsbrewhouse.com/home_page/home_main.html Nothing like good food and hoppy ale. 8)
DerekRx Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 Tonight I decided it was time to try a beer I've heard a lot about, the Magic Hat Circus Boy Hefeweizen. BLECHT! More like HefeWorsten! Thanks for the memories, Heath! Smells kinda funny...like feet You gonna tell some jokes, Circus Boy?
memphish Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 Pretty decent April afternoon Of course Wally's stock got fluffed in $7 incriments Went down to see the Redbirds play thanks to free tickets and free food at the picnic pavilion! Pregaming and cooking lunch with my buddy Bob and a North Coast Pranqster
DerekRx Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 ^I love how the guy next to you is looking at you like "WTF?" I get that a lot while out taking self portraits for this thread.
memphish Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 Why can't we document inane details of our lives for the internet without harrasment?
memphish Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 Down here in ATL and have been dodging crap weather all day. Finally back at the hotel after one of the most perilous drives I've had in a while. Kicking back with a local brew. The Sweetwater 420 Extra Pale Ale. Quality product. Next up was a Munich Helle. Very nice. Sampling their fine Sledgehammer. My favorite of the ones I had After kicking it at the Wingate for a few I headed to North Atlanta and checked out 5 Seasons Brewery
PhishyBrewer Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 It's even got more flavor on draft. That's what I think. It will be one of my summer favorites for sure.
Rugged One Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 So I stopped off at my place last night during lunch, and found an attack of the summer beers. Tons of new seasonal stuff that I wouldn't be able to fit into the beer fridge all at once, so I had to just try two. Including THE CURVE BALL! YEAH! I'll let you guys know what I think later tonight. Some Sierra Nevada Summerfest and tasty looking Curve Ball. We'll get acquainted later tonight.
PhishyBrewer Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 ^Don't hate me if you don't like Curve Ball. It's one of my favorites, but I find that not everyone enjoys it as much as I do.
DerekRx Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Lots of catching up to do! On Friday I flew to Atlanta, and I made good time down to the Philly airport, so I decided to get some sushi for dinner, and kick back a Sam Adams with it. Afterwards, I had more time to kill, so I decided to go in search of new headphones for my mp3 player, and in midst of the adventure I encountered a Brew Pub in the airport. Excellent! Though I decided to try the Lancaster FranklinFest lager. Good stuff, especially for an airport where crappy bottled beers dominates. They don't brew their own, but they've got micros; including the Sly Fox Rt. 113 IPA Sweet! Independence Brew Pub in the airport! I believe I'll have a Boston Lager with my Boston Roll
DerekRx Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 On Saturday we headed from SFOG to Lake Winnie and back. In return transit Greg "Glutenfree" Legowski and myself decided to get a good dinner (and beer) and so we decided to try 5 Seasons. It was easy to get to and the food was great. The owner came out to talk to us and he really knew his stuff. Definitely worth the trip the next time you find yourself in Atlanta. Its about 30 minutes from the park, just off I-285. And I kicked back dinner with the Sledgehammer, a West Coast inspired IPA For dinner I had salmon in a coconut curry sauce. Even better than the Cedar Plank Salmon! Either this is from the World's Smallest Lime Tree or I've really grown! My appetizer was a spicy lobster cake over a corn salsa. Delish! I refill my beer reserves with Seven Sisters Munchner, their signature beer Even Glutenfree can enjoy a brew, in the form of cider Wait a minute, I only know of 4 Seasons, and Georgia only has like 3 seasons; cool, hot, and hotter Any place that has a giant turtle and beer has got to be awesome
DerekRx Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 At the Atlanta Airport, N'atman wanted to drink since he missed out on both other opportunities. Well, sadly by the time we got seated at Chili's, they were out of draft Sam Adams. We had to settle for other stuff. And I had a Blue Pacific Margarita (I wish we would have went to 5 Seasons again, or tried Max Lagers) Tim had a Heine (bet he really wishes he went with to 5 Seasons)
Rugged One Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Looks good Derek. I'm definitely going to try and hit 5 Seasons when I'm down there in June. I love that name for an IPA. Sledgehammer. Self-photo time! Me with the March release. The Celtic Knot Irish Red. This was was a little dissapointing, as it had a very thin taste to it. Pretty easy drinking. Started out with April's special release, the Peregrine Pilsner. This was a really good pils with a lot of hop character. Normally they have this available in bottles but they were all sold out. Too bad, as I really wanted to take some home. Visited with some friend up in the Harrisburg area this afternoon, so we stopped off at the ABC for a nightcap before heading home.
memphish Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Time to update with the rest of my tastes since Friday. Came back from the park and had a Sweet Water Blue while sizing pics before getting in the shower. Then I headed downtown. They got tall buildings. 5 Seasons last night, Max Lagers today! Lazy eye and a Max "Gold" belgian pilsner Some tasty, slightly out of focus BBQ Chicken Pizza. This is my staple at brewpubs. I've never had one with big peppers, pesto, and citrus sour cream though. It was most excellent! Hop Face! Their IPA was awesome. 12%?!!? Good lord! Stopped off at Green's after Max Lager's to get a couple of things for my friends Damn what a selection! They even had a cellar for Belgian brews.
Nrthwnd Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 ~ ~ ~ a few mugs of Kokanee Draft last night at bar... i do what i can.
DerekRx Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 After a crappy day at work and crappy yard work, I kicked back a few. Porters aren't my thing, but it did have a nice coffee and chocolate taste and aroma. Next was the Magic Hat Batch 373, a porter A very good Pale Ale, nice hoppiness, good taste, smooth and refreshing First, Old Dominion's Dominion Pale Ale
