megalyte
^ I would LOVE to see a Hawk right there seeing as they got rid of Typhoon!
coaster-crazy
Wow, what a shocker! A Zamperla Hawk would be cool, but I believe the Log Ride is too close/low for one of those. Â ~Nicholas
ScottBrown
I always thought the Giant Dipper had a cool smell to it. Â That wonderful mixture of grease moisture and old wood
Angry_Gumball
I love the Giant Dipper smell...sometimes however, I smell a similar scent in the Demon's tunnel, or even closer to home, a strangely similar small coming from the radiator shop around the corner from my house. ScottBrown
Yeah I love that smell as well and I do come across similar smells from time to time as well
cal1br3tto
There is a tiny stretch of path at a park near my house where it smells exactly like an old wooden coaster.
Mechanic
Many people use old railroad ties around their yards for retaining walls, etc. The oil and creosote soaked ties have that same smell.
ScottBrown
I was looking around on http://www.italintl.com and it looks like this will be the last year for Crazy Surf. It's listed as being available in October:Â http://www.italintl.com/detail_page.php?record_id=1516 Â Seems that will be the location of the new ride for 2012. Though what will fit on this small space? My guess is a Zamperla Hawk or Rotoshake. Â I would love to see them get a Zamperla Air Race but it sure won't fit in that location A KMG Discovery would fit nicely there however

Sheep-O-Matic
The Crazy Surf is for sale? I wish my yard was big enough. Â I wonder what will take its place... Hopefully a new ride that is similar to the Crazy Surf.
ScottBrown
Yes my vote is for a Chance Falling Star
Sheep-O-Matic
Â Kind of a big ride in my opinion... Â I think this ride (below) would work a bit better... Â
XYZ
Â Kind of a big ride in my opinion... Â I think this ride (below) would work a bit better... Â Â I hope a Crazy Bus doesn't take Crazy Surf's place.
Sheep-O-Matic
It has to fit in the space though... The crazy bus is the only thing that's similar and will fit in the spot.
ScottBrown
How about a Sartori Twister they might be able to pull one of those off, it would be a tight squeeze but It could work  http://www.sartorirides.net/dettaglio_major.asp?lingua=eng&id=105#
Sheep-O-Matic
^ Now, THAT looks fun! I vote for that ride.
Andrewoplis
What about one of those crazy Mondial Heart Breaker's? Basically the same thing as Crazy Surf with flipping gondolas-  http://www.mondialrides.com/products/Heartbreaker/images.html  They look like a lot of fun! robman
Since no one has posted this yet.  From Screamscape: X-Factory - Rumor - (11/7/11) I’ve heard it said that the Crazy Surf ride at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is leaving sometime this winter, and is expected to be replaced with a new KMG X-Factory ride. Link to the Ride!  It looks to be the same time of ride as Crazy Surf but only has a lap bar rather than the OTSR. cal1br3tto
^It will be interesting to try this style if they do get it. This category of ride is really hit or miss for me, with the Falling Star and Rainbow variants generally being the best, and most of the others ranging from mediocre to bad. I didn't care for Crazy Surf as the lats were, well, crazy heavy, and it didn't offer much else. Fun to try, though.
Sheep-O-Matic
How exciting! I miss the Boardwalk so much.
Andrewoplis
An update from Scream Scape-  The LA Times has confirmed what we had been hearing, that SCBB would replace Crazy Surf with a new similar ride from KMG, thought to be an X-Factory. According to the article, the park will apply the Crazy Surf name to the new ride, but will upgrade the action with water jets and tilting seats.  http://www.screamscape.com/html/santa_cruz_beach_boardwalk.htm  This is great news, and if I'm not mistaken, this will be the first X-factory in the U.S., am I right? sfmman2000
To bring this thread back to life, Screamscape has a rumor that the Boardwalk will be replacing Hurricane with a spinning wild mouse.  While the rumor still isn’t solid, I’m still being told that SCBB should be expected to replace the Hurricane coaster within the next couple of years. Currently the expected replacement ride may be a Maurer Spinning Coaster, though things can always change between now and then. Personally, I’m still holding out hope for an S&S El Loco like Steel Hawg. http://www.screamscape.com/html/santa_cruz_beach_boardwalk.htm  I can confirm that this rumor has a lot credibility.  Personally, I would have hoped for something a little more thrilling, but a family-style roller coaster doesn't surprise me, due to many of the Boardwalk's recent rides being geared more towards families and less towards thrills. Andrewoplis
^ Have you even bin on a Maurer spinning coaster?! Those things are insane!! I would love to see one there.
sfmman2000
No, I haven't. I've been on Pandemonium (Gerstlauer) at SFDK. Are Maurer's offerings better than that? Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Pandemonium, but it's not quite insane.
Andrewoplis
^Yep, for one, Maurers spinner WAY more than Gerstlauers do, also, most of the layouts for MS's are much better as well.
