According to rcdb, Eagle's Fortress is 40 mph. I just can't see that as being true, especially seeing the speed of other suspended coasters.

Big Bad Wolf: 48 mph

Flight Deck: 51 mph

Iron Dragon (also known as Draggin' Iron): 40 mph

Ninja: 55 mph

Vampire: 45 mph

Vortex: 55 mph

Iron Dragon and Eagle's Fortress can't possibly be the same speed. And if Eagle's Fortress really was 40 mph, that would mean that it's tied for the slowest suspended coaster...yet it was rated the 2nd best steel coaster in the world last year and is supposed to insane.

Another thing I don't get, aren't Flight Deck and Vortex clones? According to rcdb, they are different speeds (see above).

So is rcdb just wrong with all of these or what?

Yes, Flight Deck and Vortex are clones, but I rode them both within a few days this Summer, and Vortex was definitely faster, and better.

ANd, from what seems to be the accepted rumor, Eagle's Fortress goes much faster than designed. It is insanely fast, and definitely faster than all the others on your list, all of which I've ridden.

Eagles' Fortress also has sustained speed. EF's second half is similar to Vortex's second half, but about twice as long, and engulfed in trees instead of above grass and a lake.

If Ninja reaches 55, it's for about 1 second, and it immediately goes back up the hill, and is much slower. BUt I don't beleive it gets anywhere near 55. Maybe if take not only the speed of the train, but add in the swing velocity at some exact moment. You might be able to get a radar gun to give you 55 mph from an exact angle where the coaster is swinging towards you at the fastest spot in the track.

Not everything on RCDB is 100% correct! There is a lot of information to input and with all the work that goes into the database some of it is bound to be entered wrong.

For example Eejanaika has 3 track inversions (by my count) but on RCDB it is listed as 2.

If Eagle's Fortress is really 40mph, then the coaster is paced perfect!

And as pointed out, it's more of a sustained speed throughout the ride (and as reported runs faster then intended whether or not that speed is what is on RCDB is debatable), Iron Dragon has a big drop off of it's first lift where the ride it's it's top speed, and I can see Ninja hitting 55 when it goes over Jet streams lagoon for the first time. As far as I can tell from the Robb's POV, there doesn't seem to be a big drop anywhere on the ride (The one actual drop seems like one of the tamer parts of the ride lol) just lots of twisting and turning downhill keeping good speed.

BBW sure as hell does not feel like 48mph at the bottom of the big drop. (more like 65)

RCDB really only gets their info from park/manufacturers press releases which I have found alot of older coasters to be misleading or just plain wrong.

I agree, the Big Bad Wolf feels like it has to be going at least 50mph, but probably more. Is the speed on suspended roller coasters harder to measure or something, like due to the swinging?

Of course rcdb is WAY wrong. Eagle's Fortress will forever travel 0 mph.

In all seriousness, the layout and the close proximity of the trees can make it seem to travel faster than it does. Unfortunately we will never know how fast it actually is...

As a member of the internet, I don't think Eagle's Fortress will ever reopen.

Then again, also as a member of the internet, I didn't think SD2000 would ever reopen, and it did.

My guess is it's just something about being below the track, Big Bad Wolf definitely feels like it's going 60 around that curve, but the 48 mph is accurate. Alpengeist doesn't feel like it's just 67 but that's what it is.

according to wikipedia article on Everland

South Korea's first suspended coaster. Reached up to 40 miles per hour (64km/h) by a trim brake on the drop when opening, but now reaches 52 miles per hour (85km/h) by eliminating the trim brake.

That's why foreign parks are awesome, even though the stress it puts on the turns could rip out some hardware.

And on BBW vs. Alpengeist, when you're hitting 110 deg. bankings after an 80 degree drop, it feels like the fastest coaster at the park, esp. when you compare it to Alpie, which has its life sucked out with its MCBR.

When I rode Draggin' Iron the first time, it didn't feel like we broke 20mph. Of course, that could be skewed after you ride Maverick and before you ride Millenium Forceless.
