mcjaco
I have no tolerance for idiots. You have been banned from Theme Park Review for creating pointless posts on the forum. These posts include (but are not limited to) - Posting for posting sake. - Posts with bad grammar such as no words capitalized, using Internet or text message shorthand, poor spelling, etc. - Topic titles that are not descriptive. - One word responses that add nothing to the discussion. And most importantly, blatantly plagiarizing other work in the Game Forum. Done. Edited April 24, 2011 by mcjaco
A.J.
Lately we've been getting some issues of files downloading and coming up as zero bytes - is this our problem or theirs?
Hhappy
Based on previous cases (as far as i can remember) it's on their end.. but without browser info, links, OS and anti virus solution info it's hard to confirm... edit: just tested the download of the file in your (locked) topic and it downloaded fine.. showed full size.. most likely browser and/or symantec anti virus related.. QueerRudie
I've not had too many issues myself- although I thought I did earlier when downloading one of your scenarios, AJ. However, that could be due to my mind being, well, non-functioning right now more than anything else. Otherwise, the only time I've seen that problem before is when a user doesn't read the instructions for their browser: We've had issues with some extensions not being fully downloaded (it forgets the .SC6 to the file) and that has always been user error. A.J.
Yes, I have a similar issue with Safari whenever I try to download a file that's attached to a forum post; Safari always seems to want to ADD a .txt extension there. I try to make things work for everyone, but sometimes it doesn't always work.
QueerRudie
AJ: We also need to consider that not everyone will be able to handle the simple act of downloading things, and placing them in the right places. Sometimes people will try to do it in their own way, the way they use, and it won't always work for them. I'm a firm believer in the term "User Error" or "R.T.F.M." robbalvey
at this point is the TPR Game Exchange even being used anymore? If it's not, I'd like to disable the code. I can leave the exchange up there so all the file will be accessible, but if no one is really using it anymore, I'd like to pull it. It's how the hackers last week got in and I don't want to keep having to update code that people don't really use anymore.
A.J.
Unfortunately, it isn't being used frequently. Only one track so far in 2015! If it's becoming a nuisance, disable it. While the Game Exchange itself was fun while it lasted - I hate to admit it, but it's one less thing that I need to worry about at this particular moment in my career! The games forum itself is still pretty vibrant, especially considering that people like the NoLimits publishers use it as one of many media outlets now. Plus, services like Dropbox and Google Drive are now so much more relevant as places for file hosting. In case the newer games like RollerCoaster Tycoon World, Coaster Park Tycoon, Parkitect and Theme Park Studio (whenever it moves out of early access) take off, it might be a good idea to have a way to turn it back on someday down the line. robbalvey
That's fine. I'm not upset by disabling it or anything as I can see the forum is still very active. I just like to streamline things. So I'll leave up the content, but we may end up disabling uploading any new content if it means we have to keep spending money to support it. We just went through an entire round of updating code because of a new php release and that was a couple thousand dollars. So anything we can pull out of that mix to bring that cost down a bit is always helpful! Edited February 9, 2015 by robbalvey
