hobbit
A suicide or not ? There was an rollercoaster accident in city star park, a guy jump out of a rollercoaster from 15 meters high... and dont survive the drop. Before the ride started he ask the star city crew what is gonna happend if he fall... but when the train coming back in the station his belt was still closed. they think it was suicide... Or the crew of the themepark invented excuse, that they do not get bad reputation, they dont know sure of it was a suicide. it is a mystery dead But how came he out of his safety belt? Or it was not a suicide but when the belts open, he fell off, and the forces closed the belt again. What do you think about this? Sorry for my bad english.... I hope you understand it.. Mr.Six
Please go back and rename this thread. Don't make another thread, just rename this one. "weird news" is too broad and frankly its irrelevant to this story. Please make your topic title more descriptive of what the thread is about. Also I understand english is a bit tough for you. But PLEASE remember to capitalize your words, etc. In your case it might be best to just copy/paste the story and give proper credit. Thank you. EDIT. Just did it for you. But in the future, please follow the advice I gave or if you have any questions feel free to PM me.
Sir Clinksalot
This must be a rather new ride, they didn't have this when I was at Star City 3 years ago.
ginzo
This thread confused me at first because I associated "Star Flyer" with the giant swing ride. Apparently, they're talking about this coaster: http://www.rcdb.com/id4179.htm
FLIPDUDE
Well, I guess the fact he asked what would happen if he fell makes this very suspicious. I see this is a pinfanari inverted coaster. I can't imagine how could someone of normal height be able to fall off without trying to fall off. Then again, who in the world goes to an amusement park to kill themself? I guess either he was under the influence of something, he had some sort of mental problem, maybe he was trying to just get hurt and sue the park, but I think it's most likely that this was a suicide. EDIT - according to the title of another news article on that site there was no mechanical failure found. How sad, though, in the picture they showed of him he seems very young. monkeyoverlord71
Me and Hobbit were talking on chat about it earlier and I found that link and came to the conclusion that the only way to find out what happened was to ask the other riders. I have ridden a clone of it and it seemed pretty safe but he could have climbed out of the restraintif he was very bendy or if it was not locked down enough. My guess is suicide if there were others on the ride. If not then the park is lying to protect itself.
robbalvey
We rode this exact same model of coaster at Nigloland in 2005. Here's a picture of the restraints: Seems to me you'd really have to try to get out of them. --Robb
Kennyweird
Yeah, it seems highly unlikely that you could "accidentally" slip out of those restraints. Either the guy was suicidal, had a mental problem, or was a friggin idiot.
monkeyoverlord71
I rode a clone of this at M&D's in Glasgow and am now remembering they were quite big restraints. I'm guessing now that they were not closed properly.
Sir Clinksalot
Nothing against the park, but I will say, while riding their Zyclon, for the first time EVER on any coaster I had a not so safe feeling. I can remember thinking that if I died on a Filipino coaster my wife would kill me. I'm not saying it was an issue with the park by any means. themeparkman25
Regardless though, the point of a safety restraint is to restrain you from falling. Suicide or not, there shouldn't be a reason at all that you could work your way out of the harness.
Mechanic
The video link in the 2nd post shows a slender young man escaping the restraint with surprisingly little effort. His escape starts at about the 1:54 mark of the video. I'm honestly not sure what to make of this incident. It's sad news in any case though. Suicide or not, there shouldn't be a reason at all that you could work your way out of the harness. When in proper position they do. Watch the escape in the video, the guy basically had "one click" while trying to escape. *Cough*HolidayWorld*cough* It Leaves me to believe the restraint for the guy wasn't down all the way, suicide or not. CoasterGuy06
It's possible he just really wanted to get out. I once saw a kid get out of an Arrow train restraints while it was being dispatched.

That is my point though, there should be no reason what-so-ever for a person to escape from the harness. Perhaps it wasn't pushed down all the way or he was just an escape artist, but there should be no justification by Pinfari, Star City or the ride op on why the harness was not properly restraining a person. Granted the person in the video did at 1.54, but thats a stationary train, with it moving is a different scenario. Its an interesting bit of news and it will be good to know more after further investigation.
monkeyoverlord71
Sadly it isn't a one time occurrence at this park. This was posted last year. Pasay City officials last year ordered the temporary closure of Star City following two accidents that left a 13-year-old first year high school student dead and a three-year-old girl in a trauma. http://www.gmanews.tv/story/138469/Star-City-beefs-up-safety-measures

I also dispute the 34,000 on a weekend claim. I was there on a Saturday in the middle of May. Megamall and Green Hill Mall were absolutely PACKED that day. When I made it over to Star City, it didn't seem busy at all.
