andyuk200523 Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Ok people, thought I would just jot a few of my thoughts etc down at the moment, so excuse my ramblings, or feel free to comment should you wish! I am getting married on Saturday to my long term partner of 7 years, we are having a decent sized do (60 to the wedding, 100 + for the evening do) I am just so happy, everything has come together in the last few weeks, the reception, plans for music, the cars, honeymoon etc...... and OMG, the Honeymoon, my partners parents have given us a surprise Honeymoon Wedding Present, a trip to South Africa with 5 days on Safari and 7 days in Cape Town, and I just cannot find the right way to say Thank You! They have told us just to enjoy it, but I feel like I want to do more, even sat here right now, a week after they have told us and shown us the itinerary, I am still gobsmacked, it is such a huge thing they have given us, I have never been the reciever of a present so huge! Any ideas people? Bit of an off one, but someone might have an idea!! But on another note, I just cannot stop thinking and talking about this Honeymoon, so forgive me if I tell you all about it!!! Flying out to Johannasburg, then taking local "Fred Flintstone Airways" Flight to Kruger National Park, staying in a 4 Star Hideaway Hotel and going on 2 full day safaris, also possibly going on an early morning Hot Air Balloon ride over the National Park.....after this taking another local flight to Cape Town, going on a trip to view the Penguins at SA's southern most point (at which point, we will be closer to Sydney than New York), Helicopter Tour over Cape Town, possibly Whale Watching, going up to Table Mountain.......I think you get the point, this is why I am having a problem saying Thank You! Any advice guys, I am (and always will be) eternally grateful, but I feel like there must be something I can do! Thanks for listening to my ramblings
printersdevil78 Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Wow, that sounds amazing! Since your and your partner's having a good time is obviously their intention in giving you this trip, maybe one of the best ways to thank them would be to compile an album for them of photos from the honeymoon. Show them what a great time you had on the trip and give it to them with a nice letter telling them you're happy to feel like such a welcome addition to their family. That's what I'd do, anyway.
brilinjo Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Capetown/Sydney = 6842 miles Capetown/New York = 7797 miles Welcome to the Southern Hemisphere! What a fantastic wedding gift, you're very lucky. I suppose I'm stating the obvious, but take lots of photos and videos. Make a DVD with you telling them how much you appreciate them at every location. That should bring a smile to their face (and a touch of jealousy) Brian
Groteslurf Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Congratulations and have fun in South Africa. Maybe you can sqeeuze in a visit to Gold Reef City
Hercules Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 My condolences. Uncalled for. How about..... CONGRATULATIONS!
Moose Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Congratulations. I am not sure of a proper way to thank them for such a nice gift, but do not let worrying about how to thank them interfere with your wedding or honeymoon. Have a great time. YOu will find a way to thank them at some point.
BeemerBoy Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 While I agree with several of the suggestions already posted, I'd say the best way to thank them is to just thoroughly enjoy the trip. If you did anything less, it would be a disservice to them. I understand the "guilt" in receiving something so big as a gift, but they gave it to you out of love, so make the most of it....that's what they want to see most! We were given great accommodations in Costa Rica for our honeymoon, and when we returned with big smiles and great stories to tell, I could tell that my in-laws were certainly happy for us, and proud of what they had given as a gift.
terrancew_hod Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 My condolences. Uncalled for. How about..... CONGRATULATIONS! Lighten up, boo. It's a joke! andyuk200523, your marriage kit with the ball and chain is in the mail. (I'm joking... too cheap to send something like that overseas!) I gave a coworker one during his "shower" and he laughed his butt off. Of course I gave him the "Honeymoon Kit" later and told him not to open it until the wedding night. When he got back, he had to personally thank me for that kit. It was the first wedding present they used! Terry "Can't go wrong with edible oils" Weaver
Nrthwnd Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 I know it might be considered passe or 'old-fashioned' to do it, but how about sending your partner's folks an actual postcard from your honeymoon? Via (gasp) snail mail? I realize the card would most-likely reach them after you return home. Then there's getting a stamp and all. But it's the thought of doing it for them, right? And you get to tell them immediately how you're enjoying it all. And you can thank them on it, too! And Bright Blessings to you both for the upcoming nuptuals and your future together.
andyuk200523 Posted October 17, 2008 Author Posted October 17, 2008 Terry - thanks! If you had of seen me on the Stag Do, I was wearing a convicts outfit, chains an all!!!! Thanks for all of your kind words, I am sure I will find the right way! Argh, wedding is tomorrow, got so much to do today, running about like a headless chicken today I think! I will try to post some pictures upon my return for you all. Thanks again
andyuk200523 Posted October 19, 2008 Author Posted October 19, 2008 Well, the day went off without a problem, everything was perfect, my new wife looked incredible, and I am now the happiest man in the world, here is a photo from the day taken by one of my friends, just finished packing for the Honeymoon, leaving tomorrow at Midday, see you all when I return! Posing with my Mum & Dad while our photographer trys some interesting sideways angles, can't wait to see the pro shot photos after my honeymoon!
