ytterbiumanalyst Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 Funky, weird, heavy, over-the-top immature sh%t This is absolutely the best way to describe Mr. Bungle. So glad someone else likes them! My favourite of theirs:
Philrad71 Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 ^ Yay...another Mr. Bungle fan! I still need to pick up California...although I admit that Disco Volante was a bitter disappointment for me and my friends after their mind-blowing self-titled debut album.
ytterbiumanalyst Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 California's pretty different from the first two, but in a very good way. They really seemed to find their voice with that album, and it's better songcraft too. To adapt your analysis, it's funky, weird, lighter, over-the-top, slightly less immature sh*t.
Blind Idiot God Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 Revocation - Theatre of Horror For Mr. Bungle fans who like Disco Volante the most (or stuff like Naked City, F*** the Facts, or Patton's own Fantomas), check out some of Spruance's work with Secret Chiefs 3. Less accessible than even DV, but there's some really fascinating material on there.
Philrad71 Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 ^^ I like the analogy! ^ I've been looking for some new music to order, so thanks for the tips!
Blind Idiot God Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 Beheaded - Crossing the House of Knives The Pop Group is another thing that would be pertinent to the interests of Mr. Bungle fans. I don't think there's ever been a band quite like them; what other group has mixed post-punk, dub, funk, and free jazz with Zappa/Beefheart, African folk, proto-industrial, and early hip-hop (before even The Clash or Blondie, mind you)?
Blind Idiot God Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 Hour of Penance - The Chains of Misdeed
Nrthwnd Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 ~ Gold Dust Woman ~ Fleetwood Mac it's ending. it's awesome. it's a classic. the whole album (RUMORS) is, actually. And a Happy 40th Birthday, RumoRs! You don't look a day over twenty.
cparkes92 Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 Meat Loaf - I'd Do Anything for Love. Kind of ironic as I had (leftover) meatloaf for lunch today.
