Swimace Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 Here are pictures of the slides that used to be part of Adventure Isle, in case anyone's curious. It has been a number of years since I have been to Williamsburg, but if I remember correctly there was a slide that went off the side of the Peppermint Twist platform that you can't really see in this picture. It dropped down then had in insane turn at the bottom. Is that right, or am I just imagining things?
cfc Posted May 10, 2008 Author Posted May 10, 2008 ^I think the Peppermint Twist used to have three slides, but I'm not sure. Jeff (pdkcoaster) might be able to field this one.
anthony b+m lover Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 Well, me and my family visited Busch Gardens and Water Country in August. I remember the Peppermint Twist was very intense, and when you hit the water you go under very fast. It also kinda hurts your back. ADMIN EDIT: I edited your post to clean up your spelling and capitalization. TPR's Terms of Service do require members to use proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Just a friendly remonder. Thank you.--Chuck (cfc) The Peppermint Twist didn't do a number on my back, but it did give me a mean forced enema.
cfc Posted May 11, 2008 Author Posted May 11, 2008 Just learned from today's Newport News (Va.) Daily Press that some of the rejected names for the new body slides were "Mashed Potato," "Locomotion," and "The Bop." Hmm--not sure I'd want to ride something called the "Mashed Potato" at a water park.
SharkTums Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 I'm guessing that Peppermint Twist did used to have three slides because Adventure Island in Tampa used to (maybe still have) a slide tower called Water Moccasin, and it had the two side slides like Peppermint Twist and one straight down one in the center. Hurricane Harbor here in LA also has a tower like that.
pkd freak Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 I remeber years ago when the Peppermint Twist was the Sonic Whip and the Lemon Drop was Torpedo and all the slides were clear. I think this was a good addition on the park since years, but they should had keep the other slides. They should had added something in place of Atomic Breakers. I really do miss AB, it was one of my best in the park.

I really do miss AB, it was one of my best in the park. I remember the lame commercial they used when the Sonic Whip first opened (pre-Busch, I believe)--low-quality videotape of some guy trying to look bad, saying "I'm not afraid of it!" I liked AB, as well, but it seems you and I were in the minority. According to one of the park officials, AB was "80s technology," which hints that there may have been some maintenance issues, too.
Guy T. Koepp Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Awesome TR Chuck! I loved the waterslide POV. Especially the Reverse POV with your face filling the image. Very funny! I love waterparks and waterslides! This one seems very nice and family oriented.
CoasterLuv Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 i kind of thought if busch hasn't had a new waterpark attraction since 2003 i wouldve thought it would be a lil more themed that that. like i thought the jukebox slides would have a platform that looked like a giant jukebox, even if was only a 2 dimensional wood cut out picture of a jukebox that stood on each side from the gound to the top platform of the slide complex on each side.
live2tell75 Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Great trip report as usual Chuck! Love the POV on the slide! Looks like you move pretty good on that slide. I've got to get back up to the "Burg" and check out Water Country sometime. Other than Sesame Place, that's the only Busch park I haven't been to yet.
Coaster Palooza Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 I'm not one for the waterparks or water rides, but Chuck, you made this look like such a blast. Maybe we'll need to go here the next time we visit BGE. Thanks!

It isn't a heavily themed section. I think a lot of the work went into reconfiguring the pools to accommodate the new slides. The old "Lemon Drop" pool was much too deep for the "Little Bopper." They also had to add a large ramp to replace the old stairs that went to Adventure Isle.
palmerleeberry Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 First of all, I wanted to congratulate you on a very excellent photo trip post. I loved the part when the park's management personnel all took a slide down in their business suits: proving that if the slides are good enough for management, then it's damn good for the rest of us!!! Secondly, I want to say that "it was about flipping time that they took out the Peppermint Twist and the Lemon Drop and put in some better looking and better sliding water slides!" On an earlier post, I wrote of the must humiliating experience of me needing to be rescued by a lifeguard after I slid down the Peppermint Twist wrong and end up feeling like someone kicked me in the groin. But the slide I was sliding down at that time wasn't the two slides that were up before they were removed, it was the third slide that was much shorter and much faster. Yes, the Peppermint Twist used to have THREE slides: two twisters and a speed slide. Last time I visited Water Country USA the Peppermint Twist had just the two twister slides left. Now looking at the photos at the new slides and color schemes, those slides look fun and inviting. Finally, Great job once again.
DRACHEN_FIRE_FAN-BOY Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 wait, did they get rid of the peppermint twists, and the lemon drops?!?!?!
cfc Posted May 15, 2008 Author Posted May 15, 2008 ^Dude, I think this point has been addressed on each page of this thread--yes, they have.
