Good pictures, they look familiar iceman

 

It was a beautiful day, it was definitely more crowded than I thought it would be. There were lines for most of the rides.

 

I was on Super Roundup for the first time in a while...that's one heck of a ride, lol. I almost forgot how dizzy it gets me.

 

I really hope Flying Turns opens soon. It's just kind of sitting there, not doing a heck of a whole lot.

Wow that looks like a nice park. It appears they do not cut down trees when adding attractions! That is a good thing. It looks like this park is just in someone's back yard and they live out in the woods!

 

What was that dingy water pond? A pool? It did appear to have an old diving board. Very strange.

I think I see some empty footers for FT. That's a bad sign imo. Good pics.

 

Actually, those footers are for the service/storage track that runs parallel to the 540 helix. They didn't start on the helix until they could figure out the turning radius of the train chassis so they could build the transfer tracks. The transfer tracks were built last September. Its the only thing that is left to build. The entire track is completed, and could run without the storage track. It's just the kinks related to the train that they're still trying to work out.

I was at Knoebels today. The parking lot was only about half full, but there were ridiculously long lines at the hand stamp office because they were having a two-for-one deal today. On the other hand, there was hardly anyone patronizing the restaurants for some reason, so they were getting orders up faster than usual.

 

Phoenix is running about average. Twister is running fast and fairly smooth due to large amounts of track work over the winter. It was smooth enough that I took several rides in the back seat, which was ill-advised before.

 

In the fall there was some talk that Dick Knoebel bought some old steel bridge from somewhere in the area and was going to use it to make a new road into the campground because too many RVs were having trouble getting through the covered bridge. There is a new road into the campground, but the bridge appears to be all new concrete construction, so I don't know what's going on with his alleged steel bridge.

 

The log flume was running. Skloosh, their Shoot-the-Chutes, was not. I don't know if it was because of the cool weather or if something was wrong. (I can't remember if it was running opening weekend last year either.)

 

Like last fall, there were about half a dozen bumper cars not running, and a few that were in use smelled hot and steered roughly. I still had a good time on them though. I also got way too wild on the flyers (I actually had to settle down a little) but nobody said anything about it.

I don't remember Skloosh running on opening day in the past.

 

The flyers were the best part of Saturday. I had multiple rides while 3 different ride operators were working and there was plenty of snapping action with no chastizing from the ride ops.

 

I also had a couple of laps on the Skooters while some of the GCI guys were in the arena. They really know how to abuse each other on that ride.

Your description of Knoebels is pretty accurate. The foliage is dense and it is basically in their back yard.

 

And yeah that is the pool. Guess they have to clean that up a bit before they open it up.

Phoenix was running great with two train operation on Saturday, also.

 

As an aside, I rode El Toro today (the after riding Phoenix) and I still prefer Phoenix's 12 moments of air over El Toro 5 more powerful pops.

^I read someplace that the front wheels of the cars lift up when it makes a sharp turn.

 

Here's what I've heard:

 

The wheels on the front axle of the lead car lifts up for a brief moment as the train makes the transition from one turn to the next. Knoebel is not liking that, and they're sure that the state inspector won't either. They're trying to figure out what causes that, and what they can do to fix it. I've heard that one idea was to add a zero car. They have to do everything in small increments so that they won't miss anything. Every adjustment they make, it changes the way the train behaves so they have to do it one at a time until they get it right.

 

This is also why they haven't ordered the second train yet. Once they get the first train running the way they want it, they will take all the adjustments and modifications to Larson and have them build the second train. The first train will be the prototype and the second one will be the final design.
