What coaster is this?

Recommended Posts

I saw this picture in the Mensa forums yesterday, and I'm stumped trying to figure out what coaster it is.

Here's what we know from the pic:

[1] woodie

[2] unpainted

[3] dark blue PTC trains with single camelhump headrests

[4] individual lap bars with grab handles in the crook

[5] single seat belt across both riders

I can rule OUT a lot of coasters based on that list, but can't come up with one that fits. Any ideas?

JEFF

Twister II is painted white in the rest of the RCDB photos.

Roar has the headrests, but the restraints are diferent again. I guess it may be a problem knowing if they have been changed or not.

Is there any kind of clue from the title of the original posted image on the Mensa boards? I've worked stuff out before from the image path etc.

Could it be Texas Giant? I think I remember trying to hunt down the coaster from that pic a while ago (saw it on a random google search) and the train kind of looks similar to this. A couple more that make the train look similar: http://www.ultimaterollercoaster.com/coasters/reviews/texasgiant/texas-giant_6.shtml and http://www.ultimaterollercoaster.com/coasters/reviews/texasgiant/texas-giant_7.shtml .

He said it came to him via an email with a bunch of humorous, untitled pictures. There's no telling where the pic originated.

I think we may have a winner.

Hmmmm... the only thing is that the folks in the back car are SMILING. Perhaps they've never been on it? I think that if it IS the Giant, that would explain the looks on the faces of the folks in the foreground.

The more I look at it, the more I think that you're right, though. I had forgotten that it had those headrests for awhile.

I would definitely say we have a winner.

VIDEO

Clearly shows the right lapbar, headrests, and if you look behind the guy doing the filming you can see the single belt over both riders :o)

Well done aplengeist 4!

^ Actually, it's not. Silver Comet never had blue trains - it always had a purple train. I can see that you would confuse that for the double down portion of Silver Comet, but the cars don't even have the head rests. Plus, not only have I looked at pictures of it on rcdb to aid in my proof, in August of 2006, I rode it three times, took pictures and a video of MFI.

Proof of Silver Comet's trains purple, "headrestless" trains:
