texcoaster
I saw this picture in the Mensa forums yesterday, and I'm stumped trying to figure out what coaster it is. Here's what we know from the pic: [1] woodie [2] unpainted [3] dark blue PTC trains with single camelhump headrests [4] individual lap bars with grab handles in the crook [5] single seat belt across both riders I can rule OUT a lot of coasters based on that list, but can't come up with one that fits. Any ideas? Future enthusiast
ginzo
My guess is J2, but the blue on that train looks slightly lighter than in this picture.
pkdcoaster
http://www.rcdb.com/ig2586.htm?picture=17 J2 has a different style bar. Now this is gonna drive me crazy all day....Thanks alot JEFF
ginzo
^Train could have been modified, or maybe that's the other train. How common is that ugly headrest? I don't remember seeing it anywhere, but on J2.
BeemerBoy
^ Gwazi has those ugly headrests too (although it's obviously not Gwazi). I'm stumped too. My original guess was Rampage. Oh well.
ginzo
Maybe someone could call PTC, and politely ask if they would be willing to divulge which coasters have that style of headrests. That would get us pretty close to an answer. Any skilled social engineers here?
pkdcoaster
Wildcat at HP USED to have them Thunder run has them too. the colors might have been changed for the pic to stump the coaster community and give us something to do this winter. haha JEFF
pkdcoaster
maybe Twister II????? http://www.rcdb.com/ig210.htm?picture=10 JEFF
verticalzero
Does the headrest give a warning to everyone to say how rough and beat up the coaster gives it's riders. Those type of headrests should be "banned" from any coaster trains / cars.
Purplepills
maybe Twister II?????http://www.rcdb.com/ig210.htm?picture=10 JEFF Twister II is painted white in the rest of the RCDB photos. Roar has the headrests, but the restraints are diferent again. I guess it may be a problem knowing if they have been changed or not. www.rcdb.com/ig485.htm?picture=1 Is there any kind of clue from the title of the original posted image on the Mensa boards? I've worked stuff out before from the image path etc.
jackskellington101
Could it be Hurler early in its run? I know the car is a slightly different color, but I believe it has the same restraints.

Guest
Could it be Texas Giant? I think I remember trying to hunt down the coaster from that pic a while ago (saw it on a random google search) and the train kind of looks similar to this. A couple more that make the train look similar: http://www.ultimaterollercoaster.com/coasters/reviews/texasgiant/texas-giant_6.shtml and http://www.ultimaterollercoaster.com/coasters/reviews/texasgiant/texas-giant_7.shtml . Pufferfish
It looks like Thunder Road Backwards to me. That could also be the reason for the look on that girls face .
Guest
That has black ratchet mechanism boxes as seen in this picture. The one originally posted has blue ones.

texcoaster
Could it be Texas Giant? I think I remember trying to hunt down the coaster from that pic a while ago I think we may have a winner. Hmmmm... the only thing is that the folks in the back car are SMILING. Perhaps they've never been on it? I think that if it IS the Giant, that would explain the looks on the faces of the folks in the foreground. The more I look at it, the more I think that you're right, though. I had forgotten that it had those headrests for awhile.
robbalvey
It's not Rampage, that's for sure:

Purplepills
Could it be Texas Giant? I think I remember trying to hunt down the coaster from that pic a while ago I think we may have a winner. I would definitely say we have a winner. VIDEO Clearly shows the right lapbar, headrests, and if you look behind the guy doing the filming you can see the single belt over both riders :o) Well done aplengeist 4! sweetmelissa
It looks EXACTLY like the silver comet here in western New York -- same orange lap bars and everything!
Tanks4me05
^ Actually, it's not. Silver Comet never had blue trains - it always had a purple train. I can see that you would confuse that for the double down portion of Silver Comet, but the cars don't even have the head rests. Plus, not only have I looked at pictures of it on rcdb to aid in my proof, in August of 2006, I rode it three times, took pictures and a video of MFI. Proof of Silver Comet's trains purple, "headrestless" trains: http://rcdb.com/ig548.htm?picture=
