mike robinson Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 For people asking where Kemah is, it is just south of Houston, located on Galveston Bay. It is quite close to NASA if that helps.
olimonn Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 i think that the extended supports are more because the track goes like 3 times through the same structure, so it has to face constraints coming from multiple spots in the structure, + due to track beneath, the upper track finds itself undersupported which leads to more supports to compensate. Hurricanes can also be a factor but I wouldn't bet on this. Just look at other martin and Vleminckx rides (the vekoma ones): They also have that kind of mamoth lateral structure. They're only builders, but seeing the structures look similar, I think they have their word on the design of the structure, and they obviously like to make their structure like this...
Vekoma Fan Boy Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 I just have a question, does/did M&V build all of the coasters designed by GG or just this one?
Guest Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Just this one so far. The other 2 have been assembled in house with the help of a private contractor I believe (Hades was all in house if I remember right).
Real Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 And MV has nothing to do with the actual ride itself. The supports, trackbed, trains, etc - its all designed by TGG. The lateral bracing is obvious...itll be taking some serious speed through those parts and yes, with track beneath theres some structural loss that will need to be regained.
Guest Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 No information is yet available saying what degree slope for the first major hill is going to be. Will it compare to the old Texas Cyclone or maybe a bit more daring?
jmccalip Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 That's what I was wondering also. As long as it's at least 53degrees, I'm happy.
mike robinson Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 After Winterfest we stopped by Kemah to check out the new coaster construction and eat at Salt Grass Steak House. There are a few tables that look out directly at the coaster which is about 30 feet from our table. Look at that Banking! Dawn, Zach and I. Well we had quit drooling as we had already had lunch The food was good too!
verticalzero Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Are there any POV's yet of this coaster at Kemah..? Who built the Rye Aeroplane woodie..? The "Rye" coaster should be able to be built at any time, it's a question of when a Theme Park says "yes" to one of the coaster designers. Come on Thorpe Park be the 1st My dream of seeing a decent woodie in the UK made by GG with 90 degree banked corners. What other "history" woodies do you guys want to see re-built, not inc "Cyclone" by Harry.
Guest Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 You will not be disappointed if your area was to get a reconstructed Texas Cyclone that lived 30 yrs before it was torn down at the 6Flags Park in Houston, Texas USA. It should be resurrected and rebuilt in its original form and there should be a clause written to the effect that nothing will allow it to be modified in any shape, form, or fashion WHATSOEVER, period. For intensity wild ranking on a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being wildest) I give it a 10! My avatar shows a pic of the Cyclone back in the glory days when it ruled #1.
almightyfire Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 i know the cyclone was ranked #1 back in the day but in the past 20 yrs there have been soo many new typed of coasters that are much more thrilling that the cyclone would have and was considered a kiddie coaster.
jmccalip Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 What are you talking about? Why do you think they tamed it over the years? A kiddie coaster???
Jayjay719 Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 rool:: Nice pictures! The offseason needs to hurry and be over already! All this warm weather we have had makes me wanna ride.
crazyrider06 Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 awesome pictures, that is one sexy woodie
Guest Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 Notice my avatar? It shows the Cyclones original PTC trains with 3 cars and 4 seaters each. When the Cyclone took you over its first drop, the entire last car was whipped into the air a good 5 ft before it landed back on the track. Thats all people talked about when they stood on the ground and watched it do that.
Guest Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 What are you talking about? Why do you think they tamed it over the years? A kiddie coaster??? AMEN AMEN
restoca Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 ...When the Cyclone took you over its first drop, the entire last car was whipped into the air a good 5 ft before it landed back on the track... Looks like the upstop wheels are doing their job in that avatar photo.
almightyfire Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 back then it was the bomb but over 20 yrs it is a kiddie coaster. rollercoasters are a drug. the more u ride it the less instense it is. i am not saying it wasnt the best or a thrill but come on now compared to el toro, hades or the one at holiday world it is a kiddie ride. astroworlds biggest downfall was lack of space for expansion and all the rides they have built in the past 20 years have been lackluster in the thrill department. no one traveled to astroworld from out of town at all. that is the main reason for lack of attendance. the tallest coaster we had was 110ft tall. I AM SORRY, but i dont miss it.

coasterphotos Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 Well, the forecast was for sun and clear skies today. I got tired of waiting for it so I went and took a few pictures while it was cloudy. More photos in the gallery on my site. Mmmmm..... Progress as of 02/04/2007
Guest Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 That lateral shift looks amazing! Do you like the coaster called GHOSTRIDER ?
Guest Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Nice shots coasterman ! yeah that forecast was very disappointing. the day started off okay but went downhill by afternoon. sunday was the same way except it seemed half the sky was clear and the other half was hazy clouds. Do you think The Bullet will be a fun coaster to ride. I heard that a coaster doesnt have to reach speeds of 60-70mph to a good ride.
Guest Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 That lateral shift looks amazing! Any new photos on this one yet ?
