robbalvey Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 ^ One suggestion. Instead of copy and pasting your poll directly from Mitch's site. How about importing it into something like EXCEL first, using the "text to colums" tool and seperating the colums, move the ranking colum to the left and then sort by the rank so it's a bit easier to read like this: 1. raptor6 Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Ok, so now that voting has closed, here's my list. Remember that I do that "grouping" method for a lot of coasters. IMO, once you get past rank #30 it really doesn't seem to matter THAT much and I find it hard to rank coasters individually. Pretty much if it's "mediocre" it's all lumped into the same "blah" category. 57. The Grizzly - Great America 58. The Bandit - Movie Park 59. Son of Beast - Kings Island 163. Psyclone - S.F. Magic Mountain At first I missed the part where you said that you used the "grouping" method, and I was wondering why there was such a large gap between Son of Beast and Psyclone! Guess I didn't know that you thought Psyclone was so terrible! My mistake. In other news, Phoenix at Knobles was my number 1 wooden coaster mainly because I have yet to ride El Toro.

ahecht Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 I now expect people to come and say "ET is not a wooden coaster. That is why it got ranked so low". The funny thing with this argument is that The Voyage is mostly steel, while ET is mostly wood.
robbalvey Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 ^ I like that! --Robb "It makes me giggle..." Alvey
downunder Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 I love that observation, the Voyage is so not a wood coaster, it should be in a new hybrid category. Let's all put Voyage at the bottom of ballots cause it's not wood, damn, too late. I don't think all the Voyage fanboys will be laughing.
SharkTums Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 ^Well, you have to remember that the majority of Voyage fanboys don't have a sense of humor to begin with!
downunder Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Yes, they don't do they. The Voyage, soon to be the Beast of the new millennium.
texcoaster Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 While I have the Voyage solidly at #1, I'm not at all opposed to having it fall from that spot when I ride something that I like better. My beef comes from the folks on here who try to tell me that my opinion is wrong. Yeah, whatever. It's impossible for an opinion to be wrong, it just might be different that someone else's. Elissa ranked Boulder Dash lower than most people. Robb put Boardwalk Bullet down pretty far on his list. Downunder ranked The Beast ahead of Kennywood's Thunderbolt. ...and on and on. Do I agree with their opinions? Hell no! Are their opinions WRONG? Hell no! Everyone likes different things. Big deal.

downunder Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Die Voyage fanboy, shame on you - just kidding. I just like what I like, I rode the Voyage a heap of times front row, back row and plenty in between, and I enjoyed El Toro much more. Personally I almost put Hades and a couple of others ahead of the Voyage. Maybe I hit Voyage on a bad day, it didn't have great airtime, and was just nasty, not fun rough in parts.

You rag on Voyage more than I do, and you have it at #2. Are you a closet Voyage fanboy? Kidding, of course. You should get out to Knoebels and ride the Phoenix so Voyage can go down your rankings some.

BuddyChrist Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 I don't post a lot on the site, but I do have to say that this is just a poll to determine which Wooden coaster is considered the best without having huge issues with being bias. The way people have been fighting over why Voyage isn't at #1 or Why El Toro isn't at #1 is getting to be really irritating. With the way some people have been responding to people's results it makes me feel like I'm at a Yankees/Red Sox game. We all like coasters and we enjoy different types of coasters. I personally rank El Toro at #1 for Wooden Coasters, but it's not because it's at my home park, it's because everytime I go on it, I have fun on it. Just because it's my number, I don't feel the need to point out that everyone who has Voyage at #1 is wrong, I haven't even ridden it! Now El Toro isn't even my #1 overall, that belongs to Nitro. People may say that I'm insane, but I happen to be partial to B&M Hypers and I love every ride that I get on it. It may not have"extreme" airtime like Toro, but that doesn't mean that it's enjoyment is less for me in anyway. I know I'm kinda echoing what everyone has said and everyone's entitled to their opinion, but stop knocking on other people's opinions. I don't consider my opinion to be the absolute nor do I consider Robb or Elissa's. I will take theirs into consideration when I plan out trips to theme parks, but in now way is it going to dictate what I enjoy and what I don't enjoy. Again, granted I don't post often here, I enjoy reading what everyone has to say and I find it interesting to see what others think of different rides that I have ridden and what I have not ridden. If I disagree with something, I may ask why they think that way, but I'm not going to say "You must've been high when you made this list." I'm pretty immature when it comes to a lot of things, but I make sure I don't cross the line. /rant
spaceace12 Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Voyage is solidily at number one for me, but I am hoping a new number one will take its place soon, like next weekend or next spring. I have never ridden a GCI but think if anything can take over for Voyage, a GCI can.

The Voyage was a good ride, but I didn't think it was anywhere near as good as people made it out to be. What kept Voyage ahead of some of the coasters I ranked below it was it's size, length, not as good as El Toro airtime and the cool terrain aspect. I'm mainly ragging Voyage in comparison with El Toro which for me is so far above any coaster I have ridden except Superman Ride of Steel which I consider El Toro almost equal with. If SROS and ET were in Australia I don't think I'd never leave the country again to do coasters, I enjoyed riding them so much.
niiicolaaah Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Anyone know what's up with the steel poll??
coastercrazed49 Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 ^Thats what I was thinking. I wonder if its still going to be Expedition G-Force and Superman Ride of Steel(SFNE) fighting for the top spot again.
ParkTrips Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Of course it will. Couple that with the extra time, less interest, and the d-bags trying to rig polls, and I could see Mitch not wanting to do it this year
niiicolaaah Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Yeah I am wondering if it's going to come out at all... I think they were released right after each other last year. It has been a while since the wood poll was completed.
