gisco Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Danny and I had a Die Hard marathon last week leading up to seeing A Good Day to Die Hard on Friday night. I thought it was good. Danny said he had a hard time following who the bad guys were and what their motive was, but overall it was a good addition to the series. I didn't get up to go pee even thought I really needed to so that's a good endorsement! I have heard the movie is great action with very little plot. My kind of movie to go zone out on.

I didn't get up to go pee even thought I really needed to so that's a good endorsement! I have heard the movie is great action with very little plot. My kind of movie to go zone out on. It was definitely one to zone out on. Just forget your troubles and enjoy the action. But a warning to any car enthusiasts, there are some cringe-worthy scenes, notably $11 million worth: New Die Hard movie wrecked 132 cars...
Double0Kevin Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 I thought Die Hard was great. It's definitely a zone out kind of action movie, but it's a lot of fun and in keeping with the other 4 movies. The plot is light for sure, they could have spent more time in the beginning hashing out the motivations for everyone doing what they were doing (especially since this one was 30 mins shorter than all the other ones). But otherwise it was a decent film, and the plot twists at the end were fun too, something we aren't used to in Die Hards.
cmullin Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 I saw Argo this weekend and it rocked! It was funny, and suspenseful.
Philrad71 Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Anyone here see 'The Fields' yet? I thought it was a good thriller...not really a horror movie, but creepy and delightfully entertaining. I thought Cloris Leachman was awesome as the crusty old grandma. And even better, there is a segment that takes place at the old abandoned amusement park Bushkill Falls in NE PA...definitely a neat place to film a horror movie, but just wish they would have shown a bit more of the park.
azza29 Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Oscars venting: how did Brave, arguably Pixar's worst film ever, win best animated film? Did the voters even watch it?Frankenweenie and Paranorman deserved to win, not freaking Brave!
Simipour'sTrainer Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 ^ I agree. While I did enjoy "Brave", it's not an Oscar-winning movie. Hell, I had my heart set on "Wreck-It Ralph" winning. I have yet to see "ParaNorman" or "FrankenWeenie" but I've heard good things about both movies.
cfc Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Yeah, I don't get it, either. Brave was just "meh," although I thought the voice work saved it.
StacyParker Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 I’m waiting for GI Joe and Fast six. I can’t wait for their release and I can tell that the movies will be a super hit by just watching the trailer.
Brandy524 Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 We went to see Warm Bodies this past Friday night. I loved it! It stayed very true to the book, which was great. Definitely recommend it!
alilstronger Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Oscars venting: how did Brave, arguably Pixar's worst film ever, win best animated film? Did the voters even watch it?Frankenweenie and Paranorman deserved to win, not freaking Brave! I LOVED Brave!!!!!!!!!!! I was not interested in either Frankenweenie or Paranoman. They just did not appeal to me all. I saw Dark Skies this weekend with Keri Russell. She should stick to drama roles. I liked it till they showed what it was about. Then I fell asleep.
Sir Clinksalot Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 I enjoyed Brave. Frankenweenie was my personal favorite but I picked Wreck It Ralph because it had won the Annie, etc. Brave was better than Wreck It Ralph IMO. Finding Nemo and Cars 2 are Pixars worst movies.
Double0Kevin Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 ^ Finding Nemo was definitely not one of Pixar's worst. I was loved by critics and audiences alike. I would even say it's up there with the Toy Storys and Up as one of the best. I would say both Cars and Brave are on the lower end of quality from Pixar. I thought Paranorman had a shot at winning but only a slim one. I believe Jack Black made the best joke when Wall-E won. When asked why he was rooting for Wall-E he said he had a system, do a Dreamworks movie every year and then bet the paycheck on a Pixar movie. It doesn't really matter, 9 times out of 10 the academy is going to go with Pixar. And Frankenweenie was garbage, we get it Tim Burton, you are goth... ohhhh.. Switching away from Oscars now, I saw Safe House this weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. I felt some of it was predictable, especially when you find out who was feeding the bad guys info, but overall a satisfying and fairly smart action film that was well acted by both leads.
Brandy524 Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 I agree with Gregg on Cars 2. Definitely Pixar's weakest. I didn't think Brave lived up to the best of Pixar but still enjoyed it.
azza29 Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 I didn't mean to imply Brave was a bad film, it just didn't deserve the Oscar. Pixar's worst is still better than a lot of the crap out there. For me Brave was about the same as last year's Ice Age and Madagascar sequels - stock-standard kiddie fare, OK but not great. Pixar's early work - Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Monsters Inc - remains their best. They did alright with the Toy Story sequels but lately their films have seemed... lacking. Monsters University might turn this around, or it could be another Cars 2. And I thought the original Cars was awesome - still don't get why people hate on it so much!
_IntaMAN_ Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 I have yet to see Brave it is the only movie besides Monsters Inc. from Pixar I have not seen. What was wrong with it that made everybody dislike it? I definitely thought Cars 2 was Pixar's worst so far, hopefully Monsters University turns out to be good and make up for Pixar's latest work.
cfc Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 ^Brave was Pixar getting more "Disney-fied" by doing their version of a "Princess" movie. It didn't really work (at least not for me), and it pales in comparison with Pixar's best (The Incredibles, Wall-E, and Up). It was better than Cars 2, though.
Sir Clinksalot Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 The reason Finding Nemo was down the list is because the story was VERY weak, and something we've seen a million times before. Visually it's one of the best, and I'm sure it looks great on Blu Ray (It's been sitting unopened on my desk since it came out). But for me it's all about the story and IMO it's one of the weakest. That's not saying it's bad at all. Even a bad Pixar movie is better than 95% of other movies out there.
azza29 Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 I found Finding Nemo to be unrealistic. FIsh and turtles have American accents but birds, crabs and sharks talk like Aussies? Pfft. Makes no sense!
alilstronger Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 I LOVED Finding Nemo. I find it hilarious actually. I personally think its one of the best animated movies but that is my opinion. My opinion is ALWAYS not like the general public. I did not like Wall-E, Ice Age or Up. I always fall asleep when I try to watch them.
ernierocker Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 As the father of two toddlers who are addicted to Finding Nemo, I have come to appreciate the movie a lot! I honestly don't think I could take watching the Toy Story movies or Monsters Inc. as much as I have been subjected to Finding Nemo. "Now if you'll excuse me, I have to see a man about a wallaby..."
Double0Kevin Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 ^Brave was Pixar getting more "Disney-fied" by doing their version of a "Princess" movie. It didn't really work (at least not for me), and it pales in comparison with Pixar's best (The Incredibles, Wall-E, and Up). It was better than Cars 2, though. It also pales in comparison to recent Disney Princess efforts like Tangled and The Princess and the Frog. Tangled, in my opinion, was an especially strong step in the right direction for Disney Animation.
alilstronger Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 Speaking of Finding Nemo the second one is in the works. Personally, I am excited. I just hope it lives up to the original. And its rumored Ellen is coming back as Dory! http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/17/finding-nemo-2-andrew-stanton_n_1680377.html
Double0Kevin Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 ^ That's outdated. Ellen was confirmed about 6 months ago. They just signed on Albert Brooks and are ready to go. http://collider.com/finding-nemo-2-albert-brooks-andrew-stanton-live-action/
Sir Clinksalot Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 Honestly, I don't like the whole sequel thing with Pixar, although Toy Story 2 and 3 worked. Everything I've heard about Monsters University is promising (have a friend who works at Disney and has seen a screening). I just don't understand how you can make a Finding Nemo 2. Is he going to get lost again?
