Since this could possibly be the last year F1 comes to the U.S., I decided to go to the race one more time this year. I lucked out and had some pretty sweet seats that were in the shade on this day that was hot as balls. For an F1 race, I found it to be pretty good. I don't know what the TV coverage was like, but there were a lot of really good battles going on around the track. It ended up being won by the hot shot rookie, Lewis Hamilton. This kid is the new Schumacher, I'm calling it.

F1 isn't really a form of racing that is properly appreciated in the U.S. unfortunately. The cars and drivers are simply amazing and the atmosphere is vibrant. If you haven't been out of the country, then this is probably the next closest thing. The race brings in tons of visitors from other countries. It's almost like a cultural gathering. So much that I would be hesitant to talk to the person next to me for fear that I don't speak their language. The fans are hardcore and it's unbelievable. I really hope they bring it back. It's a lot of fun.

FYI: There is something wrong with my camera where a small bubble like image appears in most of the pictures. Sorry about that.

Here's a clue as to where I'll be next weekend! :-D

F1 brings in a bit of a different crowd, than say, Nascar or Indycar.

The crowd takes over the streets after the race. It's about twice as bad after the Indy 500 and Brickyard 400!

On comes the Champagne!

The crowd goes crazy as the present the trophies to the top three.

I quickly head down to the Bombardier Tower to see the celebrations.

Late in the race, the McLaren's are having a spirited battle.

These cars are insanely fast!

After one lap, the McLarens are already taking it to everybody.

The field rolls off on the formation lap. For you non-F1 fans, they turn a single lap around the track before stopping again for the start.

The traditional fly over! Nothing will ever top the year they had the Stealth bomber at the Indy 500 though.

Tons of fans! Despite this being one of the most highly attended F1 races of the year, they still want to get rid of it!

You have to roll to an F1 race in style...

Actually, I got these as a joke and they just happen to block the sun really well.

I went to the nascar race last year and was in turn 3, I do agree on the crowds though. Nice seats, no shade! didn't watch half the race, ended up going to the emergency stairs and sit in the shade. Did have a couple wrecks happen in front of me. I do plan on getting to the indy 500. My mom's family has a box or something and all I have to do is buy general admission tickets! I won't go to the brickyard again. If I go to any nascar race, it will be bristol. I always wanted to go to a f1 race though.

^Yeah man, the F1 race is a blast, and the Indy 500 is the ultimate. The Brickyard is fun, but honestly I feel it is the worst of the three events. But maybe that's just because I generally prefer open-wheel racing. If all you have to do is buy a general admission ticket for the 500 though, you have to do that!! That's awesome! You won't regret it!

Hooray Formula 1!!!!

And BOO TO McLaren!!!!! Im sorry, but Raikkonen is my driver (even if Ferrari isn't doing very well this year). Im happy that Hamilton is doing well this year, but I seriously HATE Alonso, he's just a dick! Also, I seriously hope that Vettel, the BMW Sauber team becomes a driver next year, he did GREAT!

Glad you enjoyed the race, there is no substitute for F1!

Yeah, I'm not a huge McLaren fan anymore either. I was a big Montoya fan, but we all know what happened there. I was really rooting for Kimi actually (I'm realistic, I know Nico isn't going to win), but I'm also glad to see Lewis doin' so well. It'd be cool to see Vettel in a seat, but how can they get rid of Kubica or Heidfeld? Especially with how good Nick's been doing! I guess we'll see.

That sucks about your camera, Scott. It's fairly new isn't it? Warranty issue?

Anyway, Awesome report! F1 rocks!! To this day, I still miss Ayrton Senna driving the streets of Monaco.

Glad you had a great day out there.

Nice pictures. Its amazingly hard to get a good picture of an F1 car at speed.

I watched that on TV, and as Martin Brundle did his gridwalk, he interviewed on of the pit girls. HE asked he what she was doing, what her role was and who she was rooting for. She replied something along the lines of...

"I dont know many of the drivers or anything, so i dont know who to root for. But we are all just standing here, looking pretty and gorgeous, to give the guys something to look at other than the cars."

I found that really funny at the time. lol.

ARGH I still can't believe they traded the F1 here in Adelaide for 'V8 Supercars', still annoys me. I love the sound that the F1 cars make, and I miss watchin em, but you TR brought back a lot of memories about em!

Great photos, thanks for posting! I'm a F1 fan too .. Growing up in Australia (Melbourne) I'd always watch the Adelaide Grand Prix on TV (instead of studying for finals!). They then moved it to Melbourne just 6 months after I'd moved to Chicago .. so I still haven't seen it!

Still, my parents now live less than a mile from the track in Melbourne - so I just need to visit them in March and I'll be able to walk down to watch the fun!

Again, thanks for posting - I'm super envious.

^Ha, yeah, they have taken over the Minardi role.

Seriously!! If one of Nascar's top teams cheat, then their crew chief gets suspended, they get fined $100,000, and maybe lose a few points. What happens when F1's top team cheats? They get fined $100 MILLION and get BANNED FROM THE CHAMPIONSHIP!! Now THAT is a freakin' penalty! Nascar needs to take notes!

I'm partly glad it doesn't effect Lewis Hamilton in anyway though. It'd be a shame to see him get robbed of his championship for something he didn't have anything to do with. Now Alonso on the other hand...

Spa is this weekend!
