spaceace12 Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 Mile High Falls @ Kentucky Kingdom is an other big one. Apparently, It's the only good SF shoot-the-chute ride. We sat in the frot row of that one, and got the wind knocked out of us when we hit the water. We slammed into the padded bar so hard!!! My picture I took! IF the glass wasn't on that bridge, they would be soaked. Waited 5 minutes to get this photo!
DarkMeasures Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 I love the one at Six Flags Great America, but like all the park's water rides, it is really showing its age and I would love to see a new version of the ride built. I don't care for the one at Islands of Adventure though. The contact with the water is too rough and you end up banging your head on the seat in front of you. And the splash, despite being ginormous, doesn't get you wet as the boat just completly zooms by it.
Loco Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 I've ridden that ride sooooooo many times, as PGA was my home park, and each time, I got sick floater time and totally soaked. That drop IS fun, isn't it? I don't know how you didn't get wet! I rode the back and all we got was like sprinkles of water lol
coasterdude5 Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 That's weird because I always find them to be fun. I think the drops are cool, especially the double-down drops. Most of the time they're better than log flumes, and you get more soakage.
map2 Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 I agree with the other TPR members, Perilous Plunge is the best chute-the-chute rides. It is crazy how you get splashed in the face as your going down the drop, that would be the only chute-the-chute ride i would wait an hour for. That or Jurassic Park, but I would not wait in the line to get wet more for fun. But when did Perilous Plunge get harnesses?
swampfox Posted May 31, 2007 Author Posted May 31, 2007 Anyone remember where at KD you could clearly see a broken sewer line in the pool of Diamond Falls? The ride used to be in the lake, but after the water park, it was like they left the lake water in there for the next 15 years. Gross. Seems quite a few people on here really like these things. I still don't get it. If it has theming, I get it. If it's tall I get it... But 50 foot drops with nothing other than the one drop?
Loco Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 ^ Yea and to think that I have waited 30 min for the one at Great America once...trust me, never again!
kraxleRIDAH Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 But when did Perilous Plunge get harnesses? Harnesses as in the four-point fighter pilot straps (2002 on the original boats) and the stationary over the shoulder-restraints (June 2006 brand new boats).
pgathriller Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 Shoot the Chute rides are pretty fun IMO. In 2000 Western Playland took out their outdated Crazy Mouse coaster for a 50 foot Shoot the Chutes ride and it was a huge hit. For a park that has mild attendane and hot summers it was a perfect attraction for the park. They're were never lines longer than 15 minutes with a 2 boat operation. Western playland was themed for families and this went perfect for that theme. Although it may not be thrilling to us coaster junkies, parks add attractions that will bring people in and this ride did just that. I love the one at Western Playland. It's called Tsunami and although it's only 50 feet and has a single drop it's still a great ride. The Tsunami is currently being rebuilt at the new Western Playland location in New Mexico. The Tsunami will be the parks only water ride for now as the water slides are still at the old locaion and the log flume was sold to Wild West World. I anticipate that the Tsunami will do great in New Mexico because of how hot it gets. On another note my favorite Shoot the Chutes ride is the one at PGA. I love those double drops. It gives a nice pop of airtime before you get drenched.
IceDragon Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 The drops fun, usually get a small pop of airtime, but if you wanted to cool off quickly, go stand on the bridge.
Drop-Out Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 Actually, I was at Great america yesterday and the water from the splash didn't hit my shirt. The floater airtime is the best part!
Homer Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 I've ridden only a few Shoot-the-Chutes. I'll talk about two... Tanganyika Tidal Wave - Busch Gardens Tamprica Aside from the weird name, this ride is a nice little shoot the chutes ride. Interesting thing about this ride though, half of the ride is spent navigating through a river that goes through jungles, caves, and african villages before the lift hill. Although the theming is old, the river portion was once used for the defunct "African Queen Boat Ride", which was Busch's cheap attempt at Jungle Cruise. The only differences between Tidal Wave and African Queen are obviously: 1. The boats- instead of the covered boats, the ride uses Intamin boats. 2. The lift and drop- no giant 50 foot drop. As for the soak factor, Tidal Wave has always soaked me whenever I stand on the bridge. As for on the boat, not that much. Jurassic Park- Islands of Adventure Good theming, one huge queue, but not much of a splash unfortunately. Also, don't forget the B&M-in-a-box!
cfc Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 I can take or leave this sort of ride. BGA's Tidal Wave is fun, and I like how Escape from Pompeii gives you a bit of a show before the drop. The more "bare bones" versions usually don't interest me, though. Supersplash at Tusenfryd is fun. The little one at Six Flags America cracks me up--the splash actually soaks one side of building across from the ride entrance.
Xxhershey818xX Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 Just in general these rides just make guest happy. Little kids love to sit there and watch the ride. Me and my friends love the drop on Snake River Falls at Cedar Point. Tween (kids from liek 11-12 maybe 13) like my sister have fun riding then running away from the wave on the bridge or just standing there and getting soaked. Thats basically it. these rides just seem to draw people for diffrent reasons so parks just keep them.
imbordisux Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 Hersheypark's gets you absolutely DRENCHED! There's this kind of rope roof over the splash-down area, so when the wave launches, it hits the "roof" and rebounds back down onto you. It's like the world's largest bucket being dumped on your head.
coasterdude5 Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 Does anyone have a POV of Tanganyika Tidal Wave? It was closed the day I went to BGA. It looked like a cool ride.
