This was a design I drew up in 2 days for an extremely contemporary and fancy station during the KCAT's testing. The red arrows mean the exit the green means the entrance. Is this possible, probable, likely, or even the opposite. Tell me if it appeals to you, and if not, why.

The top of the front is chopped off but it looks exactly like the top of the back .

I don't understand why, there is a solid, what would be, thick wall that goes around the entire station. There is a wall behind the large windows, you just cant see it in the picture. So really, I know it would hold. When I meant is it possible, I meant would it be ok if the line went under the station were the roller coaster would be and things like that. Not physics.

Why not just make it the glass that is used in glass floors on things like the CN tower?

Structural stability and security, glass is fragile and doesn't do very well with supporting heavy weights. In large sky scrappers they have thick metal frames and interior supports to keep the primary weight off of the windows, they'd shatter otherwise.

Thank you for your comments everybody.

Aside from holding up the track and station mechanics, you could actually make the rest out of glass. They have compressed glass technology now that allows glass to be VERY strong and support lots of weight. By compressing the glass, they lessen it's flexibility and make it way more sturdy.

It would be EXTREMELY expensive, but completely possibly. I believe I read somewhere there is going to be a pedestrian bridge made of compressed glass like this somewhere in Britain. What's even cooler is you can run fiber-optics through it before you press the molds and you could basically light up the structure instead of needing other lights.

Yeah, I think it would work, just have a steel framework and it would be fine, though it looks a bit old fashioned, not really contemporary as you said, there is actually a shopping plaza in my town that has a similar roof design and it was built at the start of the 90s.

The glass arch doesnt really do it for me.

Good drawing skills there though, pretty much spot on perspective, I had thought for a sec that the 3D view was a computerised version.

BiCoastal...

I never heard of that compressed glass. Interesting concept. I would still feel safer with some steel holding up the building. I would assume that the glass would be very good at holding up the long spans needed in a coaster station.

Oh, and i am a structural expert It's more specialised than just "physics"

Well that's why I said that the actual mechanics would definitely need support. The rest, the shell and the limited queue that he has there, would probably be possible. From what I remember, I believe it works by fitting together laminated glass sheets and then compressing them together. Kinda like one of those 3d puzzles, sheet by sheet, except bigger and glass. It's supposed to be extremely strong. Probably reaaaaaaaaally expensive, but it's be pretty cool.

They could also make it out of clear acrylics, since those are also pretty durable. I think it could be done, if done correctly.

WOW! That is an amazing drawing (I am just now seeing the post) I think it is possible, I think anything is possible! As to if it will ever be built. I doubt it... there is way to much glass involved. I can just what would happen to it if it were attacked by a hail storm. LOL! Great drawing though!
