coasterfan200692
This was a design I drew up in 2 days for an extremely contemporary and fancy station during the KCAT's testing. The red arrows mean the exit the green means the entrance. Is this possible, probable, likely, or even the opposite. Tell me if it appeals to you, and if not, why. The top of the front is chopped off but it looks exactly like the top of the back . 04-25-2007 05;26;09PMpther.bmp
CoasterNut17
First thing is, YOU DREW THAT?!! Great job! Second thing is, is that I think it would work, exept there would need to be more que line space, maybe outside of the building. Structurally, it looks like it would stand up! Keep the great ideas coming!
coasterfan200692
Thanks, I ve been trying to think of a more realistic entry line design but it hasn't come to me yet, oh well.
texashorns82492
Yeah I agree. Need a longer que line. I'm a physics expert so I'm not sure if it will hold.
coasterfan200692
I don't understand why, there is a solid, what would be, thick wall that goes around the entire station. There is a wall behind the large windows, you just cant see it in the picture. So really, I know it would hold. When I meant is it possible, I meant would it be ok if the line went under the station were the roller coaster would be and things like that. Not physics. Disney Dood
I must say that's an amazing drawing. And then I must say it's certainly possible. I think it would look great on a Batman themed coaster, it gives off that Batman-y look to me.

Why not just make it the glass that is used in glass floors on things like the CN tower?
coasterfan200692
Structural stability and security, glass is fragile and doesn't do very well with supporting heavy weights. In large sky scrappers they have thick metal frames and interior supports to keep the primary weight off of the windows, they'd shatter otherwise. Thank you for your comments everybody. Top Thrill Dragster
I think the station looks GREAT! Personally I think it would look better if it were a duel station.

Aside from holding up the track and station mechanics, you could actually make the rest out of glass. They have compressed glass technology now that allows glass to be VERY strong and support lots of weight. By compressing the glass, they lessen it's flexibility and make it way more sturdy. It would be EXTREMELY expensive, but completely possibly. I believe I read somewhere there is going to be a pedestrian bridge made of compressed glass like this somewhere in Britain. What's even cooler is you can run fiber-optics through it before you press the molds and you could basically light up the structure instead of needing other lights. CoasterNut17
^Wow! Sounds cool! That's exactly what would make the station 100x better!
Calaway Park
You could use that self-healing glass too, the stuff they use at Marineland and such.
Golfie
I could take a wing at it in RCT3 - it could definitely be done w/Vodhin's Girders 'n Glass set.
coasterfan200692
If anyone wants to do anything like that I would be just fine with that, you could post the pictures here. I would do it myself but I don,t do RCT3.
chmilo24
That is a fairly good drawing and if you could do that whole thing with fiber optic lights and do something like that catwalk in the Grand Canyon that has glass floors, now that would be awesome. Gav
Yeah, I think it would work, just have a steel framework and it would be fine, though it looks a bit old fashioned, not really contemporary as you said, there is actually a shopping plaza in my town that has a similar roof design and it was built at the start of the 90s. The glass arch doesnt really do it for me. Good drawing skills there though, pretty much spot on perspective, I had thought for a sec that the 3D view was a computerised version. DarkMeasures
It is actually possible to build an exact replica of the station in RCT3. Vodhin made a glass roof set that has pieces that would be perfect for the whole design. Too bad you don't do RCT3.
Moose
BiCoastal... I never heard of that compressed glass. Interesting concept. I would still feel safer with some steel holding up the building. I would assume that the glass would be very good at holding up the long spans needed in a coaster station. Oh, and i am a structural expert It's more specialised than just "physics"
BiCoastal Kid
Well that's why I said that the actual mechanics would definitely need support. The rest, the shell and the limited queue that he has there, would probably be possible. From what I remember, I believe it works by fitting together laminated glass sheets and then compressing them together. Kinda like one of those 3d puzzles, sheet by sheet, except bigger and glass. It's supposed to be extremely strong. Probably reaaaaaaaaally expensive, but it's be pretty cool. They could also make it out of clear acrylics, since those are also pretty durable. I think it could be done, if done correctly.
Twister II
Kinda reminds me of Iron Dragon's station.
thrillrideseeker
WOW! That is an amazing drawing (I am just now seeing the post) I think it is possible, I think anything is possible! As to if it will ever be built. I doubt it... there is way to much glass involved. I can just what would happen to it if it were attacked by a hail storm. LOL! Great drawing though! ~Matthew
BiCoastal Kid
No such thing as too much glass!
the sound
^ There's a train Station in Madrid that looks like that. BTW, great drawings. It looks like a Universal style station to me.
