Well, I went to Busch Gardens yesterday because it was the last day that my friend could use his pass. We headed straight towards Montu and saw a few people entering the Ackbar building, we thought it was just a worker area so we thought nothing of it. We got to the Montu queue and the lady working the front of the line said "By the way, Ackbar is open today."

I gave her a very confused look and said "Ackbar is open? I thought they tore it out", she said that it is open probably only two times a year. After our ride on Montu we headed to Ackbar, and it was open. The sound was HORRIBLE, you could hardly understand what they were saying. THe movement was a little off sync with the video as well, not to mention that the entire film had this horrible red tint to it. The mummy animatronic that comes down from the cealing wasn't working either. Overall I was glad to see the ride still there (Great memories), but they just have to fix it up a little. Also, they should get rid of the horrible musty smell.

Has anyone else seen this ride open at all this year or the past few years? Is it only for New Years?

I think it is only on peak times of the year (New Years/Christmas).

I thought it was supposed to be permanently closed back in 2004. Last time I rode, the ride had most of those problems too (red tint, bad sound, mummy not working). But, what do you expect from a ride neglected so much by Busch?

Besides, the reason why Akbar is closed is due to the company that made parts for Akbar's simulation pod is defunct. Busch was going to use parts from Wild Arctic, but couldn't because that would be breaking the law (Wild Arctic was made by a different company).

I thought Akbar's was a nice, cheesy, and wholesome family attraction at Busch on a serious note. Nicely themed too with the crap in the line that makes it feel like you are in a TGI Fridays/Chilis/Applebees. The themed bus is still parked out front. And the exit area still feels like you are going down some alleyway in Egypt.

I'm so bitter!

I just read it was open over at Screamscape.

I was there on 12/30, and was only in the Egypt area in the morning (but did eat at Crown Colony around 12:30pm) and had no diea it might be open.

Now, I know it is regarded as a poor ride, but I've never ridden it and would have liked the chance.

I'll see your Questor and raise you . . . er . . . more Questors. Busch blew it when they took that out of BGE (although Corkscrew Hill isn't bad).

I've never been in Akbar, always just passing by as friends told me it was one of the WORST simulators ever. Todd even renamed it Yackbar after he had one unpleasant ride on it. I can't imagine its much worse than Corkscrew Hill and its evil galloping horses though!

Yeah, bring back Questor!

Did Akbar have the Demented Dimensions queue wall paintings and other things in it?

All I can say is, when I rode it back in 2004 (this was after HOS and when Akbar was used as a haunted house), that the theming is kept intact and its not painted with a bunch of blacklight paint.

In other words, Akbar's queue is still kept normal and that the HOS stuff is like... a bunch of bedsheets with spray paint...

Sounds just the way I remembered it.

Yeah, the HOS themeing was still intact... but you only saw it in the first main room you walk into.

About the "Horrible galloping horses" in Corkscrew hill. How about horrible galloping cammels in Ackbar? Up... down... up... down... A few gave a decent pops of air, but it was more sickning than anything.

I never got to ride Ackbar but I figured it might be interesting considering who Ackbar was played by...but I guess I was wrong.

Maybe I am just a dreamer, but how much would it cost for Busch Gardens to buy the Reboot simulator movie from Luxor?
