Guy, I must say that your DVD will haunt me forever...but in a good way. Your distrubed little mind really put together a pretty awesome DVD and it was definitely like no other coaster DVD's out there. I really enjoyed how your wife and kids put up with you and played along in the videos. I still crack up every time I see a "little person" on the street because it reminds me of that scene in one of your videos. I don't think I've laughed harder before Guy (plus I had about 3 Jack N Cokes in me while watching)

Awesome stuff Guy and definitely keep up the good work.

P.S. Don't drink Tijuana water...EVER!

So very glad you enjoyed it!

“What’s in a Brain?”—And What’s It to Ya?

Guy Koepp is a sick, twisted little monkey. What can you say about a 40-year-old man who dreams of Danish professors and strippers? Who plays with puppets? Who features his own family in his sick fantasies? Who plays with Mexican bacteria?

A sociopath? A freak? A psycho? A barrista? (OK, let’s not drag Starbucks into this—no need to get sued.)

Well, I’m not going to call Guy anything, but I will say this about his first DVD offering, What’s in a Brain?: always interesting, often hilarious.

Guy has spilled the contents of his brain onto two DVDs for our amusement. His gray matter flings around like hot grits a’flyin’, especially on “disque un,” where he admits his own sickness and tries to explain his coaster obsessions to “Dr. Phyl,” the famed puppet psychiatrist (who really needs to examine why he enjoys having someone’s hand up his butt). These sessions act as a frame for a series of vignettes that involve 1) coasters and 2) intrusions from other dimensions that would frighten H.P. Lovecraft. I don’t want to give too much away, but here’s a sample of what the poor doc is in for:

What really goes on when one drinks the water “South of the Border”

A twisted, erotic look at the educational system of Denmark

Why you should fear Guy’s avatar the next time you ride X

A perversion of a “beloved” theme-park ex-icon

So, sit back, relax, crack open a cold one, and prepare to be amused, bemused, dazzled, and befuddled (all in a good way and maybe all at the same time) by “disque un.”

But all you “straight” coaster-video lovers needn’t fear—“disque deux” has plenty of wood, steel, and rumblin’, ramblin’ wheels for you, without all the dementia to get in the way. Well, sort of. Guy gives us a good look up, down, sideways, and other which-a-ways at a number of coasters, ranging from Lakeside’s Wild Chipmunk (one painful-looking ride) to SFMM’s Goliath (and he throws in some water- and alpine-slide action for good measure). The musical choices run the gamut from Ozzy Osbourne to John Denver to the Beach Boys to Broadway show tunes to mariachis. (What? No Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass?) He even gives a nod to all you lift-hill enthusiasts out there.

I do have a few nits. The opening spaghetti-western-inspired segment runs a bit too long (but does give you a good luck at KBF's Silver Bullet, also featured on the second disc). The audio on the California Screamin’ footage (the Beach Boys’ “California Girls”) has a fair amount of static (but improves in its second half). And there is a glitch in the title card before the “Thrill Shot” footage (it first says “Revolution,” then switches—oops). But this is all minor stuff.

All in all, a good use of your hard-earned cash—if you have the guts to step inside the mind of Guy Koepp, that is.

Wow! Thank you so much for those kind words Chuck. I'm so very glad you enjoyed it. I know my disc is definitely not of the norm, and appeals to a select demographic. You know, like the sick, perverted, twisted, alchololic, tweakers, stoners, hot sexy chicks, and least I forget, the mentally deranged. Or, as I like to believe. Most of the freaks like myself that frequent this site.

In retrospect, I have to agree with you about the opening. I could easily trim a good 30-45 seconds off it and not have it be missed. But, It is has been released, and I will learn from my mistakes, and make the next one a little more tight. Perhaps in 10 or so years I will do a special edition like George Lucas did to the original Star Wars films. But, unlike his endeavors, I will actually make mine better.

Again, I am so glad you enjoyed my little excursion into the ubsurd. I hope it is equally enjoyed by everyone that get a copy.

^Yeah--keep Dr. Phyl as a puppet, don't digitize him--Yoda was always much more entertaining as a Muppet.

What's in a Brain? finally came the other day, even though Robb shipped it on 10/17. Go USPS!

I'll post a full review some day when my brain is actually working, or I've had more caffeine. Heck, maybe Guy's DVD short circuited my brain, and it'll never work right again.

The DVD is great stuff. Even my wife laughed at points, and she normally doesn't enjoy my weird, random YouTube clip sense of humor.

Oh, and I still need to watch the second DVD. That'll happen this weekend.

Excellent! I was shooting for complete mental meltdown! I'd say mission accomplished by your response .

Don't worry, the effects do wear off... ...eventually.

My Coaster Expedition Volume 3 Review!

I am going to go straight to the point and my overall thoughts. I really enjoyed it! When I first ordered, I was mainly eager to watch the POV's but then after watching the general "around the park" footage, I ended up really liking it, probably more than the POV's. I thought the atmosphere of the parks, (along with some TPR touch) gave a good sense of what the parks have to offer. The only downside (and that's my fault) is that it is 2002 footage, and a lot of the parks have more stuff now, but for a 5 year old video, it was fantastic. So good job! You can expect to see me purchase another DVD sometime in the future!

JimmyBo and friends

Join JimmyBo and friends on his summer of 2006 amusement park excursions.

The two DVD set is jam packed amusement park goodness from SoCal, MidWest and TPR's 1st ever sanctioned trip (UK 2006). As if having JimmyBo producing and starring in the DVD isn't enough of one his friends is the Hoffman Girl. Watch the Hoffman Girl, sing, dance, ride coasters, scream and even trip and fall.

On top of the great videography, JimmyBo provides a killer, rocking soundtrack to go along with his trademarked WTF facial expression.

In California, watch JimmyBo scope out Tatsu at the opening campout, credit whore Southern California and hang out with the Hoffman Girl in Northern California.

In the MidWest, PizzaPort compadre Ryan joins JimmyBo at Holiday World, Kentucky Kingdom, Kings Island and Great America. Watch them ride coasters and scout the MidWest highways for slow drivers and roadkill. They even get into the act by creating their own roadkill. Sorry everybody, but the Hoffman Girl does not make an appearance in the MidWest.

JimmyBo then chronicles his trip with TPR to the UK and Scandinavia, including great footage of the UK's finest coasters. The Hoffman Girl returns for the UK portion of the trip, and by the end of this trip JimmyBo's army of friends has grown exponentially.

Buy the DVD and join JimmyBo's army of friends.

^Yes, I agree with you about JimmyBo and friends. It is a glorious romp across this nation and the UK. Very funny, often hilarious! I love his WTF? look! A rollicking good time is had by all!

But, does JimmyBo get elbowed in the ribs and spend the rest of the weekend in pain? Perhaps in "JimmyBo and Friends II, the resurrection."

Posted

^Guy, I'm afraid to watch yours. Maybe on Christmas Day since I will have 7 vacations days to recover before I have to deal with human beings again. I truly fear what your DVD will do to my brain.

^ Thanks for the comments you two. It's nice to see that people enjoy it. And as for Guy crushing my ribs in JimmyBo and Friends Volume 2?...no dice. I was in too much pain and didn't feel like reliving that experience and putting it into a video. But there is another DVD in the works.

if your next DVD has:

Party Boy

The strength contest at Holiday Park

Overloaded log flumes

Retarded Yellow Hat Club antics

The Hoffman Girl falling down

Spinning tea cup action

Bouncy, Bouncy

in addition to this sneak preview of:

Hot Fuzz in First Aid

Exclusive ERT song footage

I'm in, pre-sign me up for the next DVD

^^Larry, all of what you said plus more is included in Volume 2. Whenever it decides to be released for public eyes I'm sure you will be on top of the list to recieve it first. It will probably come out sometime early next year. Robb and Elissa are swamped right now with tons of other stuff and sending out their DVD's so I think we will wait until things get a little less hectic.

Guy T. Koepp's "What's In A Brain"--- Rating: 10/10

I loved "What's in a Brain"....Crazy Funny! The Dr. Phyl puppet was classic...he was extremely hilarious! My family watched it and loved it as well, can't wait for part 2!!

I just got the DVD today! I really like the front and back cover, great work on that!

Unfortunately, it didn't work for my Toshiba DVD player.....so I stuck them in the Apple computer and it poped right up!

What can I say, this is the DVD I was waiting for. Fantistic footage of some of the greatest wooden and steel coasters out there! Not only are there great action shots off ride in the coaster's area, but there are foreward and reverse pov's! One of the parts I really like about it is the total specs before, so it's like it's very organized; unlike a park video where it's just random shots. And one more thing I really love is that it's completely RAW footage! Raw is raw! You can hear people talking, the music and just the general idea of things going on in the ride's surrounding area.

Fantastic job, R&E!

10/10

Hey, I'm going there Saturday!

Mmm....high quality stengel dive.....

December 19th 2007. Huntsville. Alabama.

...It arrived...

Yep, I ordered Roller Coasters in the Raw Volume 1 and Coaster Expedition 3. The package from Alvey Land was still red hot from the smokin' fast turn-around from when I mailed my check (coffee stains and crappy folding job and all). I did a double take as I drove up to my flat. Oh yeah!

Roller Coasters in the Raw Volume 1 was first. With a steel mug of Big K cola I watched the Steelies gleefully. To keep it simple, some of my fav parts:

* The eerie and hair-raising silence while cresting the top of Kingda Ka during the PoV.

* Big Mike's (?) face while riding Kingda Ka

* The AWESOME bonus coaster

* The big yawn somebody let out on the Kumali lift hill in the PoV

* Robbs subtle and eloquent musings on Ejanaika

Coaster Expedition Volume 3 was next. Parks and coaster PoVs that are no longer with us among the other goodness on these disks. The Frog on-ride photo at DLR was a work of art. Hilarious!

Yes friends, short of one of the big trips and hanging with the Alveys, these DVD's of their adventures are WELL worth the money. Stop what you're doing...right now...yes, put down the sandwich (it'll be fine, really) , put some clothes on or whatever and order these DVDs. They rock!

Robb and Elissa, thank you for the ninja fast turn around and for the most honorable videos. I salute you.

EDIT: Modified and posted part of the above in the Roller Coasters in the Raw Volume 1 thread. Thank you to the person 2 posts below me for the reminder .

EDIT EDIT: Ooooo! I might be eligable for a TPR Bag o Crap. Nice! This day just gets better and better. First, seeing track go up at MOA, then getting the coaster DVDs, and now BoC elligibility. Somebody likes me today!

I'll add in a couple things I learned from the RAW DVD.

-Sheikra creaks and sounds like it's giving a LOT of stress on the track!

-Eejaniaka is very painfull

-Go, go Phaethon!!!

-El Toro still looks freaking awesome

-Bonus Video rules!

-Zaturn has some special chest padding or something?

-Superman looks like it has some great moments of B&M air!

I've decided to make this thread the official "Review" thread for anything Coaster Expedition, Jiggidy Johnsons, JimmyBo, or What's in a Brain.

If you have ordered these DVDs and would like to post your review, do it here!

Everyone who posts a review will get a TPR bag-o-crap!

--Robb

ps. Post your Roller Coasters in the RAW reviews in this thread:

http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=40089

Not to sound like a total noob, but what's a TPR bag-o-crap? Considering I'm going to post TWO reviews soon(CE's 5&7) and wonder A: What a bag-o-crap is and B: will I get one?

Posted

Bags-o-crap are the greatest invention this planet has ever seen. The greatest thing about a TPR Bag-o-crap is that it never has the same sh!t in it twice.

Guy "Every Bag-o-crap has it's own unique sh!t. It's the sh!t that makes it a bag-o-crap!" Koepp

Posted
That REALLY doesn't answer my question. I get it if it's a joke, but I'm wondering if it is or if it isn't(a joke). Don't ask me why.

It's like a grab bag, only TPR does the grabbing for you and gives you the result. It could be cool things like a What's In A Brain DVD, or random so-so things like a napkin from Magic Mountain. Not knowing what you're in for is part of the fun.

Not 100% sure here, but it sounded like people who bought Coasters in the Raw Volume one got a BoC if they posted a review of it. Something may have changed and I could be wrong here.

Bottom line, the DVDs are the real prizes here, not necessarily the BoC.

Yup! For 10$, you can't beat that! It's already hard to find some good DVD's of coasters, but usually you would expect to pay 20-30 bucks! But for 10$?! I think it's a steal. RapidsNerd couldn't have said it better. But a BoC would be really cool.
