Mechanic Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Well, until the full details of what exactly happened come out, it's just speculation. We can hope for the best and just be glad that whatever did happen, happened during testing and not during normal operation.
SharkTums Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 ^Unfortunately, due to it happening during testing and with no injuries there's a really good chance we'll never know the details what REALLY happened.
themeparkologist Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Maybe the media will make up some jaberwocky-story and say that all rides in USS are not safe because no one in Singapore seems to get that the rides just opened and they're really just being 'publicly tested.' Â Â The media should have a word for their own type of exaggerations. Hyperbole just doesn't cut it.
Nosferatu Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 Anyone know if BSG has reopened or when this will happend. Want to go next week, and it would be cool to ride it
SharkTums Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 ^From what I've heard it's still closed...and for good reason. Â Please feel free to still go though, we'd love to see more Photo TR's of this place!
Bestcom Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Anyone know if BSG has reopened or when this will happend. Want to go next week, and it would be cool to ride it   Sorry , i went to the park every week, 99.9% it will not ready by end of April or may. they not even do any test run on the BSG .if someone see them testing Battlestar then we will know they found the problem. So if they are not test it we have a very long wait.
the ghost Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Wow... poor Vekoma. Regardless of what did happen this must be a MAJOR issue, and I am kind of believing the seat thing now just cause no one has been able to have nay evidence to deny it and the coaster is still closed. Its looking kind of bleak for them IMO, or at leat this particular design is looking bleak for them.
willh51 Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 ^ I have a soft spot in my heart for them so hopefully this is more the result of a very cautious government than a real serious problem. Didn't one or more of the trains on Riddler and Batman at Magic Mountain fail inspection a few years ago during that park's roughest days? That said, I'm guessing this is more serious than a padding issue but, as has been mentioned, we'll likely never know. It'd be a shame if Vekoma had to redesign their new trains, as everything I've seen points to this being quite a nice ride.
digimax Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 I found this on Youtube.. Could this be the "technical problem" that happens to Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure sometimes? Â
Bestcom Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Hi here's the update from official web site of USS: Â Update on Battlestar Galactica Attraction Thursday, April 15, 2010 Universal Studios Singapore is in the process of a complete ride inspection and review. An investigative team from the coaster's design, engineering and manufacturing company and some expert independent assessors are looking into the ride. The vehicle has been dismantled and its components have been sent for analysis, including an x-ray of its parts. Â The whole process may take some time and we will provide an update as soon as the results are out. Meanwhile, the Battlestar Galactica attraction will remain closed. We understand some guests (and definitely fans) may be disappointed. However, we need to ensure all inspections, repairs and testing are complete before the ride resumes operations. The safety of our guests and employees remain our top priority. We appreciate your understanding in this matter. Â There are still plenty of other attractions in Universal Studios that will keep your day in the park fully occupied.
Bestcom Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Actually I have been on the Cylone Battlestar ride...& Believe me...you would want to wait awhile untill all inspection on safety is done 100%..crazy, this ride is 'out of this world' experience!!..& at that time I had hoped they checked everything ..Safety is more important!..don't compromise it..
kidcoaster 2 Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 Singapore News      Battlestar Galactica ride may be closed for weeks By Imelda Saad | Posted: 15 April 2010 1914 hrs   Photos 1 of 1  Battlestar Galactica ride at Universal Studios at RWS     SINGAPORE: It may take weeks or longer before Universal Studios Singapore re-opens its popular ride, the Battlestar Galactica.  The roller-coaster was shut down on March 25 due to a "technical glitch".  Universal Studios has kept mum about the nature of the glitch but in its latest statement to MediaCorp, the company said the ride is in the process of a complete inspection.  This includes a review by an investigative team from the ride's design, engineering and manufacturing company, as well as several expert independent assessors.  The ride has been dismantled and components analyzed, including an X-ray of its parts.  "It may be weeks or longer before these final conclusions are reached," said Universal Studios Singapore.  "Any comment prior to the experts reaching their determinations would be purely speculative, so we will wait until the process is complete before we issue any statement as to when the attraction will again be operational and/or the additional testing to be performed in order to prove the safety of the repairs performed."  Universal Studios Singapore added that the world's tallest pair of duelling roller coasters will remain closed until all inspections, repairs, and testing are complete.  "We understand some guests may be disappointed; however, the safety of our employees and guests remains our top priority," the theme park said.  Police have said Universal Studios Singapore must recommend rectification measures and re-certify the safety of the ride, before its licence can be reinstated.  - CNA/yb   www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/1050336/1/.html
DenDen Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 Wow! I would assume the only reasons you would have to dismantle and x-ray a train would be either a derailment or a collision.
SharkTums Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 ^Or if part of the train (cough seat cough) FELL OFF during ride testing.
Mechanic Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 With modern engineering design technology and techniques being what they are, it seems nearly incomprehensible that an entire seat could simply fall off of a coaster train. I know there was speculation earlier that it could have been just seat padding, but it hardly seems they'd need to disassemble an entire train and x-ray the components if that were the case. I'd really be interested to know exactly what fell off. For example: A seat base, or portion therefore? Or... The entire arm that comprises the complete seat assembly, including the restraint? If it's the latter, that is just INCREDIBLY scary.
kidcoaster 2 Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 ^Or if part of the train (cough seat cough) FELL OFF during ride testing. Â Sounds like the whole park is falling apart lol

kidcoaster 2 Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 (edited) ^Um, why? Obviously this is a major "fault" that needs to be addressed immediately, but the rest of the park seems to be doing just fine given its age. Parks are going to run into minor errors that can be corrected easily during the first couple months (and even years) of operation, its just the growing pains of starting a new firm/park. I just don't see how the rest of the park is falling apart though, sorry bud.  It was only a joke refering to the problems they have been having such as Battle Star, Mummy, Jurrasic Park.  Trust me I am well aware that problems will occur for a while after opening a park, as they get the bugs worked out and as the staff gets use to the rides.  Ken "People shouldn't take me too seriously" Jones Edited December 30, 2013 by kidcoaster 2
themeparkologist Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 Does anybody else think 'seat falling off' refers to only the cushion and padding that you sit on? The entire arm seems a little extreme and Vekoma wouldn't make a mistake like that. Come on, it is probably a very minor issue with a very cautious management staff.
SharkTums Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 ^The ride has now been closed over three weeks. It's being taken apart and x-rayed. I don't think they would do that for a cushion falling off. Also, I have MULTIPLE sources confirming the seat 'rumor'.
Bestcom Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 another reply from USS Â "during our daily pre-opening testing that morning before opening to the public, we found a technical problem on one of the ride vehicles and we are investigating at the Battlestar Galactica attraction."
andyuk200523 Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 Does anybody else think 'seat falling off' refers to only the cushion and padding that you sit on? The entire arm seems a little extreme and Vekoma wouldn't make a mistake like that. Come on, it is probably a very minor issue with a very cautious management staff. Â Please bear in mind that Vekoma Design the ride, chances are the major components of the train were subcontracted out to another company, For Example the company my partner works at built the brakes for Nemesis Inferno at Thorpe Park. Â This could be that there are hairline fractures in the metal of part of the train which is causing bolts/nuts to become loose, the seat might not have fallen off, it may have just become loose (which is equally bad!) Â So in all, it could be a manufacturing defect rather than a design issue, therefore more than likely not being Vekoma's fault.
SharkTums Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 ^That's a very good point Andrew, and as much as I wish people would understand that, they're always going to go to the company in charge of the whole project (Vekoma in this case) to really place the blame. Â It's just such a hard situation without all of the facts out in the open. Let's just hope wherever the fault or blame lay, that everything gets fixed and opened back up soon!
themeparkologist Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 ^Sorry for the confusion, everybody. I meant there would be no way Vekoma could influence things like that by saying "Vekoma wouldn't make a mistake like that." Â Vekoma is a perfectly safe company. And everything prototypical or unique comes with a cost. Â By the way, Is ROTM open yet?
