jackskellington101 Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 I used the lovely search feature, scrolled through a majority of the 414 returns and couldn't find this question, so if it gets locked for repeat, then it's my miss. I was wondering, who generally picks the music for the videos? They're usually a very eclectic mix of songs and I can't put my finger on whose taste it might be.
BarryH Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 I thought that the footage Robb edited had rock and alternative music, and Elissa's edited footage had bubble gum-y, pop music. Of course, I also thought that Robb picked his nose.
SharkTums Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 Actually I'm the one who's more into rock and alternative.
robbalvey Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 For me sometimes it's VERY random! Elissa will usually put together a list of songs of recent pop/rock, and then I'll listen to that for months. If there's something on that disc I like that Elissa doesn't want to use, I'll use it. Then other times I'll pick something that I've been listening to for YEARS, for example the recent Halloween Horror Nights video I used an old Oingo Boingo song. And then other times, I'll have captured a bunch of footage and then totally randomally find stuff, for example, I ended up using the punk cover of "Science Fiction Double Feature" for the UK's Legoland. Totally at random....came across the song, loved it...used it! Not planned at all! It is VERY rare for us to have a song in mind before we ever start shooting footage. --Robb "Hope that helps!" Alvey
Louise Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 It is VERY rare for us to have a song in mind before we ever start shooting footage. --Robb "Hope that helps!" Alvey Out of interest, the fact that you say "very rare" rather than "it never happens" kinda implies that there have been odd occasions when this has happened... Have you ever just got to a park and though "WOW, this park totally needs such-and-such-a-song using for the footage!"? Kinda like Ted's choice of "Hellhole" for the Coney Beach video, which I imagine was the song that first popped into his head on arrival...

I'd imagine "I Want Candy" for Hershey, and probably the one used for Hades, as well.
BarryH Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 Who's the Weird Al fan in the family? Weird Al appeared a few times over the last few DVDs.
jackskellington101 Posted October 30, 2006 Author Posted October 30, 2006 Let me pose a guess and say that it's primarily Robb, seeing he posted about "Don't Download this Song" when it first came out. My curiosity was struck when watching the Movie Park Germany video and just wondering where the heck you guys find this stuff. I've got an eclectic taste in music, if I do say so myself, but you guys find stuff that just makes me laugh. I just can't imagine who finds all the Europop stuff.
Meteornotes Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 I often suggest music, but I am always ignored... dt
Louise Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 ^ That's because your favourite music would... How did you put it so eloquently... STERILISE ME!!!!
BarryH Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 If I listened to Dave's music, I'd probably be tempted to jump around and break stuff. Besides, I've seen the t-shirts of the bands he listens to and I've never heard of most of them. I think Dave needs to wear a Hilary Duff t-shirt to throw us off.
Meteornotes Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 ^My cat hacks up hairballs that contain more musical talent than Hillary Duff... dt
Louise Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 Hell, BARRY hacks up hairballs with more talent than Hilary Duff. For that matter, Barry himself probably has more talent. And considerably less scary teeth.
Shockwave Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 But Hillary Duff has the sex appeal to sell records. I don't think Barry could do that.
Beate's Freak Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 LMAO, it's true though if Hillary was 10 pounds heavier and didn't have that hair i don't think we'd know her (not that she meant anyhting to begin with).
Meteornotes Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 Hell, BARRY hacks up hairballs with more talent than Hilary Duff. OK, the thought of Barry coughing up hairballs has created an image in my mind that will likely keep me awake for many, many nights. Thanks, Lou... dt
BarryH Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 Worse image: Me hacking up hairballs while wearing a thong and dancing to Justin Tumberlake's "Sexyback."
jackskellington101 Posted October 30, 2006 Author Posted October 30, 2006 I think that image caused my brain to shrivel up whilst weeping
jynx242 Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 ^^ If you all will excuse me, I will be curled up in a fetal position under my desk quivering for a while. david
robbalvey Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 Out of interest, the fact that you say "very rare" rather than "it never happens" kinda implies that there have been odd occasions when this has happened... Have you ever just got to a park and though "WOW, this park totally needs such-and-such-a-song using for the footage!"? I'd imagine "I Want Candy" for Hershey, and probably the one used for Hades, as well. We've gone into parks having a song in mind, or a style of a song in mind, but then will come away thinking "that won't work....' etc, etc... The Hades one is kind of a good example.... I didn't even think of that song until day two of our filming. And I seriously hadn't heard the song in about 10 years. I sang my little bit on the lift hill just be chance that I: 1. had the song right, and 2. hoped the song would fit once I got home. But a song like "I Want Candy" is something where it would be earmaked on our list as a "song we want to use" and then have some parks in mind to use it for. Hershey in that case was the obvious choise. On our Volume 8 DVD, for example, we wanted to use the "Fast Food Rockers" song because it was so "British" and I wasn't until a visit to Alton Towers earlier in the year where we realized they had a Pizza Hut, McDonlads, and a KFC and we realize "oh, this will work perect." So I made sure I filmed a LOT of each of those locations for the song, and turned out, the song did in fact work! But mostly, I'd say 90% of the time, the final songs are chosen after we get back and start working on a segment. --Robb
niiicolaaah Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 I often suggest music, but I am always ignored... dt Dave, you should make your own videos. The music alone would make them my favorites! Nicole "Dave Rules!!" T
BarryH Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 I think that image caused my brain to shrivel up whilst weeping Even worse image: Imagine Robb heaving up furballs while wearing a thong and dancing to "Sexyback." And people say I have cute eyes...
benzo41190 Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 what Ive always wondered was, where do you get your music. Is it from random sources? Because sometimes, I cant find a song that you use. So do you buy japanease CDs online or something?
