robbalvey Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yqVqwcICKQ So this got passed around at work today, for obvious reasons, but it just amazes me where the video game industry has come in 20 years. Look at the "stereotypical programmer geek" that all these guys look like, and how just a few short years ago those little boxy stick figures and a screen flash was considered "state of the art." I love it! --Robb
mcjaco Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Yikes, does that bring back memories! Thanks for sharing Robb! Check out the customer in the commercial for Ice Hockey. It's Phil Hartman!
TheStig Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 This makes me want to run out and buy an Atari right now!!!! Good thing that 92,000 sq foot warehouse is putting out tripple that of other companies!!! Go about 5:00 minutes in, does that guy sound like he's talking WAYYYY to close to the microphone??? Colin C
BelizeIt Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 I remember playing all of those games! Clearly Activision has had it's act together for a long time, they even had The Great Phil Hartman doing Ice Hockey Commercials. No doubt twenty years from today, there will be a special on the history of video games and we'll watch an interview of Robb (Before he left Activision to form Alvey Interactive Inc.) discussing games like Call of Duty 2, and how "those" games were the state of the art for there time. The next 20 years in Video Game development will be a fun and amazing ride for all of us!
Luxo Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Yup, I really get into the game when I play a blocky chicken running through traffic. Great find!
Bubba Z Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 Larry is the man!! I used to play Kaboom all the time.
Token Yankee Guy Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 Oh my god, I can't stop laughing over the narrator saying "exciting graphics" and "amazing sounds!"
Erik Johnson Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 I believe they have this video on the Activision Collection for the PS2. By the way, I hope the new version of this upcoming game is a little better than this one:
Hercules Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 I love the 80's! Jay "Still remembers his brother's Atari" Willis
DerekRx Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 Awesome stuff. Nothing says "realistic" and making you feel like you're "part of the action" quite like stick people hockey. Funny how we can now have all those games emulated on our cell phones! Thanks for sharing!
FlyingScooter Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 Activisions Pitfall was one of the most addicting games. We've come a long way since then. I liked the original Pitfall more than the PS2 version.
crispy Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 That was awesome, I certainly remember those games, in fact I'm sure I have a few of them Funny enough, one of the next video's that was brought up after watching that was the old Transformers game for the NES, please Robb, don't follow this example
BarryH Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 I have a Playstaion 2 and I think all I have for it is the classic game complation, like Activision Anthology, Capcom Game Classics, etc. There's something about playing Pitfall that is so much fun, even today.
