Pleasureland Southport to Close FOREVER!

Recommended Posts

I'm still in shock about the fact that it has already closed down, have the rides dismantled already?

I would have at least thought it stay open untill the end of the season.

Bad news for Southport, but good news for other small UK parks looking for futher investment ie Pleasurewood Hills & Pleasure Island.

Just to echo everybodys thoughts, it is shame to loose another seaside park

In recent years the real estate value of seaside parks has forced the closure of parks in Scarborough, Morecambe and Margate, all demolished to pave the way for grand new mixed use leisure and residential schemes billed to update the ailing tourism offerings of the historic coastal resorts

Yet none of these schemes have delivered, all thats left is big holes in what were still attracting at least some visitors and money into the local economy, it seems nobody has learned any lessons from this and Southport will now make the same mistake

Apparently Rhyl Ocean Beach in N, Wales is earmarked for a supermarket development.

to be honest I was there a few weeks back and the place is in such a state. it probably needs to be put out of its misery.

I also visited Rhyl Ocean Beach a few weeks ago and must say that it`s the most ugliest "park" on the british island.

By the way can any insider tell me why they are building this new Southport waterpark Splash World(http://www.splashworldsouthport.com/index2.htm) exactly infront of the entrance of the Pleasureland.

I think the splash world investors are really angry about this decision.

Ow man that sucks, i really wanted to visit Pleasureland someday, does this mean that BPB is the last park with a classic wooden Wild Mouse? Its a shame to see so many coasters lost, Traumatizer will probarly be bought, but the classic rides like King Solomon's Mines and Cyclone probarly won't be so lucky.

OK, I hope nobody jumps down my throat but... am I the only one who's not sad to see this park go? I mean, it's never GOOD when a park closes down but honestly... I didn't think it was anything special. The most entertainment I had that day was when I watched Dave and Mary bowl. Or the crazy sounding hand dryer.

You're right, it wasn't great, but it could have been. It's a shame that Southport was never given the classic amusement park treatment it deserved, because it had the potential. I never got to ride the helter skelter bowl, but it looked awesome! I'm just happy to hear the Fun House will remain open for now, beause that was the park's biggest redeeming feature.

I think that pretty much sums up the quality level of the place right there, if our non-PBA skills provided you with any sort of amusement. Though it was kind of fun having to take the pin that would not ever fall down (but would occasionally register as down) into account with the second ball.

And I figured me almost totally killing myself in that wacky shack or whatever that screwed up walkthru was would have at least provided a few moments of diversion. I guess it would have been more fun if I had actually left a limb behind or something...

That was my Very First Chaos, too. And UPshot Tower ride, too!

(sniff) But ---

All the dark rides and walkthrus were just old and moldy. I'm still not sure if that's the reason why I took the pic below of the park...

I mean, WTF was going on with this furniture? Got a nice background mini-signature action shot of Cyclone, though. Sweet.

With two out of four coasters down for our UK Tour Day there, it didn't look pretty for it's future.

And now, we know.

RIP Southport.

Um - what WAS the reason I took this photo, again? Anybody?

It is so sad that Pleasureland has closed. I have fond memories of the park when I was a child. While reading the forum I have just managed to put a very fond childhood memory in place. I remember a brilliant ride that I went on first aged about 8-9 and and then a few times after, it was the helterskelter bowl. It was so much fun and so different I have only realised that it was at Pleasureland while reading these forums. I am happy to know where it was but very sad not to be able to go on it again. As it happens I now only live a few miles from Southport in Blackpool so it would have been an easy journey

Well I just hope that BPB will have made a decision that makes the future of the BPB more secure as it would be a national disaster if it closed.

I did manage to get one last ride on the Log Fume within the last few minutes of it being open. Sorry for rattling on........

as you may or may not know southport pleasureland has closed for good i am very sad at this news as cyclone was my first woodie. I have been visiting this park since i was a child it had my first and only slc i have rode and a fantastic fun house but due to the theme park industry struggling in the uk at the moment the major parks are getting by but the smaller parks are closing. I also have heard that camelot is going to close as well its a great loss and was wondering what peoples thoughts were regarding this sad news

cheers markyblox

ps my heart goes out to all involved on this historic date 9/11

Rumour basically strongly has it that TraumaTizer IS moving to Blackpool where the Log Flume was...

And that it's going to painted Purple and White... Or Purple and Green... Or Polkadot!

I threw in my own rumour there! For free!

It's sad to see the park go. It may have not have been the best park, but it did have the funhouse. The funhouse was one of the best hightlights on the recent TPR UK trip. I'm glad to hear that the funhouse is going to remain open. I will miss the Cyclone, I actually injoyed this coaster a lot. And I will miss those cheesy dark rides and walk through's. They don't make them like that anymore!

Mr. Funhouse, I'm glad your not going anywhere!

That is not true:

Closing a park because it's not a viable business, fine. Closing it because you have a childish dislike of it, then it's not fine. No effort was made to save a park that was the fifth most visited theme park in the country, with 2 million visitors a year. To go from that to "not worth running" in 2 years requires management decisions of the lowest order.

And according to Camelots official website, they're not closing!
