They may attract the general public now, but when something taller and faster comes out, they'll all flock over to that. That's when they'll become useless. I give them about 10 years untill they fade away.

It's still the number 3 steel coaster (according to the Golden Ticket Awards...IMO it's not) and it's and ACE Classic. So TTD will more than likely get recongnizition like that for being the first strata-coaster. Just my though.

They are a good investment for a park. Relatively cheap, small footprint, and the GP love them. ^Yes I think that's true, but keep in mind rides like Magnum XL 200, and how it was the first coaster over 200'. downunder Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 Flyers, stand-ups, and those Intamin reverse free falls never really caught on anyway. Hypers seem to have stood the test of time, and they haven't done anything interesting (intense yes) yet with Rockets.

I can see Vekoma Tilt Coasters going nowhere, as well as (hopefully) the Maurer Sohne X-Car Coasters. Standups seem pretty much done also. But you never know! Things can take interesting turns! For example, B&M Dive Coasters... many thought Oblivion was just a gimmick, then several years went by and we have Shiekra! I would like to see more of: -Intamin Accelerators with twisted/inverting layouts as opposed to ones designed for sheer height -Vekoma Booster Bikes -Intamin woodies -Intamin inverts -Maurer Sohne spinners with custom layouts What do you guys think will become of the 4d?

Also, X and EJ are relatively short (albeit intense) rides. Until the layout is lengthened, and the costs become smaller, I wouldn't expect to see many more 4D coasters. Its a shame too, because they look really fun.
map2 Posted July 30, 2006 Author Posted July 30, 2006 Floorlesses are also ones, they used to be one of the hottest things out on the market, but now they are a think in the past. B&M flyers at one time seemed to be out of the picture, but then Magic Mountain built Tatsu. Soon enough though, they will be in the past along with impulse coasters, stand-ups, and those reverse "superman" style rides. B&M Inverts seem to stand in the test of time.

waterviper Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 I dont believe in outdated coasters or coasters that "lose their appeal" or become"useless"!! Find me the oldest one and I will ride it! A roller coaster is a roller coaster to me!! Ranging from kiddy coasters to the uber mega ginormous coasters. From standard coasters to the 4d coasters, its all the same to me! I still like Gold Rusher (mine train) at SFMM! I absolutely love Matterhorn at Disneyland! I will never get bored of any of them! I will always like the "usless" or "outdated" coasters all the way to the most technological coasters that can be thought of today!!!
CoasterKing38 Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 An arrow looper such as Viper @ SFMM has lost the long lines it once had. I guess people just flock to the newer rides like Scream and Tatsu. They are just more fun, IMO.

Louise Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 As far as past "fads" go, I think anything that was a unique "one trick pony" that has now been made into something more substantial would certainly count. Oblivion, for example, is still something that the GP flock to at Alton, and something that many enthusiasts (including myself) really enjoy, but I'm much more excited about eventually (probably in like three years, ha) getting to ride Sheikra in the future, because it's an expansion on that basic idea. The technology has been much expanded upon and made into something arguably better, which renders Oblivion SOMEWHAT redundant. I also agree with whoever talked about biggest/fastest/tallest coasters, generally speaking as soon as something even bigger/faster/taller comes along, they will instantly lose popularity, with the general public at least.
