John Knotts
^ yep, there is so much urban legend sorrunding Superman. Years ago I heard people saying the cars fell off the track on the return run, it overshot the tower and that was the reason for the delay. Even more crazy, is for years I believed it! ebl
When Superman was first announced, I used to have dreams about it. In one dream, the car did overshoot the tower and flew off, crashing somewhere behind Food Etc. In another dream, the cars stopped at the top and you could get out. They had a restaurant and a gift shop up there, and you could stick around as long as you wanted. When you wanted back down, you just waited for a car to arrive with an empty seat, and climbed in. gforce532
^The resturant and gift shop is a great idea. They should do that, just think of the view you get while having lunch.
Six Flags Enthuseast
I heard one about Superman having an incident in 2000, and that's why it never went 100 mph since around then. Is that true? Â Also, the idea about adding a drop tower to S:TE's tower is good. However, the structure would need a lot of redesigning in order to accommodate one. The area that would be able to fit a drop tower is curved slightly as the curvature of the track on S:TE straightens out, as the picture included shows. MagicMountainMan
^There was no incident that I know of. The only reason that I've ever heard for them not launching it up to 100 mph is that they don't feel like paying the absolutely massive electric bill. Same goes for why they don't run both sides at once. There's just no need.
jray21
Neil spoke about it at WCB. He said they could make it go 100 whenever they want. I can't remember specifics, but they don't do it because of the high costs.
rcdude
^I think he also said that running Superman at 100 MPH increases the downtime by about 400%. I forget whether it was Neal or Tim that said this, but they said they were looking into reprogramming the ride system so it can launch faster without faulting as often. willh51
Running it at full speed could be an enthusiast-event exclusive! Â I really hope they don't paint it purple, but any updates Six Flags is willing to pay for are nice. I've never been to SFMM, unfortunately, but at this point have they been running only one side period or just one side at a time? I thought at one point one side just didn't work and they took forever to fix it. Â I remember when this ride first opened and was the subject of several TV specials (a side note...why doesn't Discovery do those great coaster shows anymore?) and I remember thinking how 100mph sounded insane. 13 years later, it's still pretty respectable. Six Flags Enthuseast
I've never been to SFMM, unfortunately, but at this point have they been running only one side period or just one side at a time? SFMM generally runs the ride on one side for 6 months. They switch at the end of each 6 month cycle.
Fire2box
Same goes for why they don't run both sides at once. There's just no need. Â would this be the reason they don't run both sides of the colossus? Â I went the twice in about 4 days.. the first day it was riding on the inside of the track, the 2nd time it was on the outside (the outside track is a bit scarier to me on the lift hill... dunno why) Â The ride was always a station wait too. Less then 45 people at a time.

Six Flags Enthuseast
^That's what I always thought, too. It would cost a lot to run both sides of Colossus because of staffing, along with the already high operation cost of running a dueling coaster. In the early and mid 90's when it was really popular, it was so popular that they had to add that midcourse brake just to keep capacity up. With that popularity, it was more practical to duel. But because it isn't so popular at the moment, it doesn't really need to duel to keep up with needed capacity.
gforce532
I have waited in line for colossus a couple of times with a really long wait in the last couple of years. And I wish they were running both sides. And it was one train operation that day.
coasterking2981
Well, if Colossus is indeed next in line to get the Texas Giant refurbishment treatment, perhaps it will run both sides once again!
Sir Clinksalot
Anybody know how busy the park has been recently? Going up for a couple of hours tomorrow morning. Â Also, are they still doing the "Pay $10 get in early" thing? Or is it only certain days?
SharkTums
^I've actually been hearing the park is NOT as crowded as normal for a summer vacation period. In fact, if you look at their website you'll notice they've cut back on park hours as well. Â I haven't heard anyone report the $10 early entry thing lately. Perhaps new ceo guy killed that idea?
Sir Clinksalot
^ Yeah, I've only heard about it happening 2 or 3 times. Too bad. Â Cool, glad to hear it's not too busy. If you and KT aren't busy tomorrow (yeah right, when aren't you busy) give me a call and the kids can hang out a bit.
SharkTums
^Thanks for the offer, but KT has school tomorrow and during that very valuble time I need to work on trip stuff! I'm sure having kids of your own you fully understand!
Sir Clinksalot
^ Totally ... thus the "if you have time" comment. Â I know you guys have some trips coming up and I know how hard you work on them. Â I'll wave to you from the sky tower.
Six Flags Enthuseast
Maybe I should visit since it's not as busy?

rcdude
If the park isn't too busy, I'm sure all my sister's friends will be happy. I agreed to take them to the park this summer, and we decided on next Monday, July 26th because it was one of the few weekdays I have available before school starts in late August (I've got two week-long trips scheduled in there). They will be glad to hear that they'll be able to get on everything in one day because most of them have only been to the park once or twice before. Sir Clinksalot
Park wasn't too bad today. The waterpark looked crazy though. Â Didn't ride X2 or Tatsu so not sure how long those lines were. Terminator was closed when we were back there (about 11:30). There was a gate in front of it so not sure if it ever opened. Â Finally convinced the boy to ride Riddlers (he thought it was going to suck like Vortex) ... he loved it. Josh's 75th credit!
AGLOIATHPENGUIN123
I went last month. Tatsu is amazing in the back. I rode everything thanks to Q-bot! deja vu was awsome, and batman the ride is AWFUL in the back. Superman was running great. Total adrenalin rush. didn't even bother riding it because i hate that ride. All in all, good trip. I hate viper because im so short . They need new restraints. Revolution was doing really good too. Scream= awsome, goliath's drop seemed forcless but it was still amazing, terminator was fun, collosus is soooo fun! Riddler was good. Ninja is always forceful, and Log jammer... WET! Great trip. Photo's coming soon... no lines without qbot was still good. so go on a wednsday. Edited July 21, 2010 by AGLOIATHPENGUIN123
