P. 2239: Superman: Escape from Krypton permanently closed

Recommended Posts

I was going on youtube to show my buddy the Iron Colossus video someone posted and it seems to be taken down from youtube (used to come right up on google it also isn't popping up). I find it strange it would be taken down as people make up rides all the time. I wonder if the user just decided to take it down, or if the park requested for it to be taken down? For those that haven't seen it's one continuous ride (you go up both lifts). The first half there were two inversions plus a bunch of twists and airtime hills, the second half no inversions but seemed to be even more twists/turns and airtime hills. Both drops seemed steep (I'd say 80-85 degrees). Makes me wonder if Six Flags asked for it to be taken down?

Yup,

The video is definitely gone. No telling though if it was requested, demanded, or simply just because. On a side note: Back in March I finally got to ride Backwards Colossus for the first time and loved it! After boarding for the 2nd time in the "back" of the train (closest to the ride-op booth) I casually asked the young female attendant (who was checking the lap bars) when the last expected day of backwards operation was. She spaced and in her confusion looked to the two male ride-ops in the booth (both of whom overheard my question). They both responded that Colossus was expected to run backwards until the end of June. With a nod I simply replied, "Thanks!" as we were dispatched.

FYI: Six Flags' 2014 2nd Quarter ends June 30th. 3rd Quarter begins July 1st...

Wait... I'm sorry, is there something more you were trying to tell us in this paragraph, or just that SFMM ops are confused and Backwards Collosus ends in June, which is in the second quarter?

Was this video a fan-made No Limits video, or posted by Six Flags?

How would you all anticipate the crowds to be on Friday May 16th?

I don't think it will be overly packed but it will be a awkward day at best. Six Flags Entertainment Corporation (SIX) stock will also hit the 52 week high at $43.00 but that's another story.

It will be a awkward day as its also a Junior Grad Night so the park will close to the public at 6pm and Junior highers have run of the park with private party. But Jr high events are different then High school grad nites were the JR Highers can arrive at anytime of the day and blend with the public during the day. Most will arrive in droves in buses so safe to say it might be better to hit up SFMM on Thursday the 15th. Or if you come on 16th be prepared to upgrade to the Fast Pass system.

That actually wouldn't be a bad idea for Six Flags. Combining Both tracks of Colossus and just Topper tracking the ride would make the coaster 8,650 feet long (Give or take depending on elements added), making it the Worlds Longest Wooden Coaster. It would also save Six Flags Money by only needing to hire 2-3 employees as opposed to 4-6 they currently have (1 to dispatch, 2-3 to check restraints).

Just thinking out loud

Am I the only one that thinks this pipe dream of connecting the tracks is .... pretty dumb?

I could list reasons but, well the main one is that most say that RMC's are plenty intense enough at their current length, I don't think 8,000 feet of track would bode well with most riders. Plus, 2 separate tracks keeps them well ahead of Cedar Point in coaster count, and we all know that that's all SFMM cares about!

The better thing would be to make the two sides completely different coasters, then they would have no problem counting them as separate coasters for their count.

^That's kinda what I'm saying...

"First park with 2 hybrid coasters" or "First park with dueling hybrid coasters" or "First park with racing hybrid coasters" or ALL THREE seems more SFMM's style.

You know IF THIS IS EVEN THE PLAN lol.

I'm still loving the Idea of having them retracking one side with Topper and restoring it to it's original footprint. Before all the alterations that removed the decent amount of airtime it used to provide. Circa 1978. Call it Colossus Classic. That way it could still be considered a wood coaster.

Now take the second track and put the Iron Horse treatment to it. Add 30-40 feet to the first drop, keep the triple up and double down, throw in a couple of fancy schmancy airtime hills, maybe a few overbanks, a dive loop, a 0G stall, and a couple of barrel rolls just before the brake run for good measure. Call it Colossus 2.0, or Iron Colossus, I-Coli, I-Cali, I-Carly, I-don't give a fu@k! Whatever!

You still keep your coaster count, and you get two great rides. One that will draw an all new XTREME contingent to that otherwise dead area of the park, add to their ever famous inversion count, and thrill the always hungry, "I want something new" pack. On top of that, you also pacify the Colossus die hards that had the opportunity to ride it in it's heyday. (I count myself in that pack.) And trust me when I say, it was good!
