  1. Would you travel from Canada to ride a euro fighter in the adventure dome? Do you think this would be enough to motivate others from Canada to visit the adventure dome ? What color would you like to see it painted and what theme?

  3. After consulting with a dome engineer, I place the costs of repair and upkeep for the next three years at 4.2 million usd. Based on their capital expenses for that period a new ride as well as a dome refurb is possible. Can you be more specific in what type of coaster you would like to see built there as well as what company? I need specifics as you must understand your opinion matters.
  4. Smart money puts "air race" as being a redesigned spinner ala "the flyer" at knoebels. They were not able complete the concept art before the announcement which is why you see the multiple images of the ride. The finished ride will certainly include the empire state building and king kong. I wish zamperla designed that king kong flat ride instead of huss. http://www.hussrides.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=86&Itemid=137 . Jess, your thoughts?
  5. I can totally relate to what you are saying. What do you think it might be replaced with? Disregarding that previous question, what would you like to see it replaced with?
  6. I'm sorry. Maybe you misunderstood my previous post. I was just wondering what your opinion was on it and what are your emotions regarding it?
  7. So Jess, how do you know this and what are your feelings about it?
  8. [*] Threat of new entrants is a topic that I hold dear to me heart. lol.. seriously. If you haven't began research in earnest, I'd like to recommend you change your scope of focus. There are many compelling areas in the amusement industry that have prominent companies on the threshold of entering an established area. The idea of zamperla modernizing coney island is something that could dramatically effect Six Flags Great Adventure's bottom line as Long Island residents are their most profitable demographic. That being said, you can establish a great argument that Warners Brothers and JK Rowling are new entrants into the well established Orlando theme park business. They have essentially forced Universal/NBC/Comcast/Blah into building an attraction/land that will, for the time being, end the walmarting of Orlando themeparks. As an entrant they have forced Disney to redesign their aging fantasyland in WDW. To even question the thought that the fantasyland redesign being greenlighted isn't a direct response to Harry Potter is asinine. Regarding your Fourth Question; The amusement industy is only made stronger by competition. It remains one of the only businesses that competition is a protagonist. Orlando was a swamp 40 years ago, today it a mecca of theme park industry. Chris "I'd write more, but no one reads my long posts" Con
  9. I purchased the download. Regarding one of the previous posters who said the download took forever, I had it fully downloaded and was watching it 5 minutes. For anyone who thinks the downloads are just for ipods/iphones. I watched this on a large flat screen and the picture quality was very good. Also the download is compatible with ps3s and new tv's that support flash drives for video. Excellent video as always and well worth the money. I'll be showing this video to my wife and friends to convince them to hit some of the parks we've missed in the North East. Chris "Waiting for Coast Expedition 14 or 15 to be in HD" Connolly
  10. What you are about to read might be completely false so feel free to correct. From what I've been able to learn, Vekoma became aware that B&M was working on flying or flying dutchmen coaster. Vekoma was able to obtain patents before B&M on their ride system but was unable or unwilling to construct a working prototype at their factory along the line of what S&S/Arrow does. They reached an agreement with CGA to build the ride on property with build and test & adjust taking much longer than typical coaster construction. Project stealth was plagued with problems since it was a prototype coaster and Vekoma maintained ownership rights as well liability responsibility while it was located at CGA. Eventually the ride was sold outright to Carrowinds with a binding agreement guaranteeing uptime and upkeep. As far as I can tell this is a very unique situation and is something not normally seen in the industry.
  11. Seriously man, I know you cheated me out of that coozie... (kouzie?) .... and I'll never forgive you for it. The funny thing about it is, once everyone gets home, no one really wants the keychain.
  12. Assuming FMP owns all their rides outright, I'll research fair market value for each ride if this is something that would be of interest to the board. If anyone cares then please post and let me know. It's going to take a number of hours to get all that together.
  13. As you know, there is an entire group of people that put their towels, flips flops, and those free bags that change color in the sun on the chairs each morning to reserve their spot. The funny part about my story is they actually removed all their personal items before we made the attempt. I'm not condoning this action, but this is how my wife convinced me to always get courtyard and penthouse villa suites after that incident. Feel free to try that with Robb! I've got this really cool upsell trick where you can get suites for crazy prices if you ever sail NCL.
  14. Regarding the german ship... True story, I was on the NCL Gem out of New York, a German Couple got out of their loungers and took their towels. Since it was a sea day the pool deck was packed. My wife and I laid down on the loungers and 10 minutes later they came back. The German man demanded I get out of "his" lounger". My wife being a pushover immediately jumped out of hers. I let him know that the lounge chairs are for everyone and they had gotten up and removed their belongings. He left. Came back with five of his friends. Picked the entire lounger up into the air and flipped me off of it, dumping me onto the ground. Needless to say, I won't be cruising on the Aida Blu anytime soon. Chris Connolly -oh yeah we were traveling with a group as well so don't worry, it has a happy ending.
  15. I did some research on the subject and I could find no instance of B&M or Intamin leasing a custom built rollercoater directly to an operator. There are numerous cases of off the shelfs and "traveling fair" coasters being leased by builders, former owners, and management companies but there is nothing I could find that gives any indication that a major ride has ever been leased. On a totally different topic, if my memory serves me correct the Freestyle management team purchased the entire park for 25 million with assuming minimal debt from the previous owners. It seems to me that a quick profit could have been made simply by dismantling the park and selling the rides off. I know there was speculation about this happening during the previous bankruptcy proceedings, but if we see another bankruptcy or reorganization occur I'd bet $100.00 that this park will be dismantled and sold off.. Any takers?
  16. I was wondering the exact same thing. For instance the Cyclone and Tornado sold by Gold Label are completely assembled with motorized lifts and play music. They are also fairly substantial and less expensive. Has anyone had any experience with these other kits? I'd pull the trigger and buy one of the kits if it didn't require any glue and looked as great as the do in the pictures. If anyone has bought one of those kits I'd love to see photos and background on how hard assembly was. For comparisons sake here is a picture of some of the Gold Label toys displayed at one of my stores during the Christmas season.
  17. I thought you guys might get a kick out of them. If anyone wants to see a video of one in action (minus the wheelie since I don't have it yet) let me know.. All of them have lots of leds, full motion, and play 25 "carnival" songs as well as 25 "christmas" songs. At my store,, we have many people that collect them. There are a number of a retired pieces as well you could might be able to find on e-bay like the cyclone and tornado. They also scale well to HO and even G scale model trains. You'd be surpised how many 70 year old "Hamptons Elite" miniature theme park enthusiasts we have. Believe it or not, we sell 100's of these each holiday season...The funny thing is, I own garden centers which isn't the place you'd expect to find these. We also sell a tremendous amount of LGB trains around the holidays (the same trains you can find outside at EPCOT in world showcase in the Germany gardens.
  18. Since there are some serious wheelie enthusiasts here on the board, I thought this might be of interest. This company sells miniature amusment park rides, and the 2010 addition is called "frenzy" although it appears to be a wheelie to me. http://www.mrchristmas.com/prod_gallery.php?line=Gold&cat=6 There is a link to all the rides they sell. If anyone wants to buy one and has trouble buying online or finding a local store, PM me as my company sells them. The manufacturer doesn't sell direct but you could probably find them on e-bay. Feel free to contact me if you want to make sure you are getting a good price. Please don't consider this spam, I just though some people might enjoy this. Chris Con
  19. Cliff notes on this post January 20 and 21st Waits 5 Minutes Single Rider 20-30 Regular Line We were at the park on January 20 and January 21st. I was able to ride at least 6 times each day with only 5 minute waits by using single rider. The regular que was showing wait times of 20 and 30 minutes depending on the time of day. I didn't notice any difference between "good trains" and "rough trains", but seriously, all those brake runs... From a General Public perspective, my wife will ride hulk and dueling dragons because she feels comfortable on B&M's but wouldn't ride HRRR because of the vertical lift hill. Even after I explained to her the coaster was fairly forceless. So their whole angle of marketing this as more of a family coaster was lost on her... I saw no down time and cast members were trying really hard to load quickly. One of the problems that slows down loading (other than the magic carpet which I doubt will ever work) is that most guests can't pull down the side lapbar on their own or don't know how to, so it slows down the load that much more.. If you have the strength to move your own lapbar after sitting or you are likely to get stapled in. Also you are helping do your part moving the que along. THey were dispatching trains at twice the speed at dueling dragons even with the additional capicity of each train simply since the average guest can pull down on their own restraint. Oh one more thing.. They had the LED's on the trains running all day so you'll at least see some lights if you have my luck.
  20. Well of course I realize that now.. but thanks! The iphone senses which direction it is being held in so I assumed it would recalulate that direction for video as well... I was wrong.. oh well.. Anyways... If I can get a trial version of quick time pro.. I'll fix everything and clean it up and make it look respectable
  21. Here are two construction videos I took yesterday. Disclaimers. 1. Taken with an Iphone so the video is mediocre 2. Video Displays sideways- Someone please help me straighten it 3. I have many additional videos if someone is looking for a specific shot 4. Due to the way this was converted from *.mov to *.wmv to a flash player it lost a good amount of sharpness, so if anyone with more experience editing videos than myself would like the original files you will be able to see things much MUCH clearer.
