I don't understand the Knott's hate

Alton Towers Discussion Thread
BeemerBoy replied to Ed's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ Yep, money talks. What would be pretty interesting to see though is if something like the KKK tried to buy out a park for an event. I'm assuming that would be a moral line that most parks would not consider crossing, regardless of money. Or am I wrong? The KKK actually would have a discrimination case against any park that turned 'em down, wouldn't they? Joey, when you say anyone, would these morons qualify? I'm actually quite curious now...not that I'd ever want to see it happen, or anything. -

Yeah, with the extraordinarily comfortable Intamin restraints, my thighs are happy that's not the case. -
I disagree. Although there is alot of Nicholson in the character, that's what made the Joker incredibly fun to watch. Personally, I think his portrayal of the Joker was right on par with what Depp has done with Sparrow. Nicholson defined that series, even with being in only one film. And personally, I liked the way Keaton played Batman. I know many feel Jack overplayed it and stole the spotlight, but hey, that's what comic book stories are all about anyway....the villians. Take away an outgoing obnoxious villian to fight, and what do you have? Not much. The superhero really should be low key. That's what makes the audience sympathize with his plight. The three most polular were all quiet in nature...Batman, Spiderman, and Superman are all very unassuming in their civilian forms. At first I was skeptical of even rehashing the whole series, but like Wes said, Nolan pulled it off so far. It really is the most realistic comic book adaptation I've seen yet. There was a perfect blend of backstory and riveting action to follow it up. It's pretty much like any other fairy tale ever told...everyone will have their shot at telling the same story a slightly different way, and I'm sold on the current version. Okay, well as long as Clooney and Kilmer are kept at least 500 miles from any set they're shooting on.

^ I remember that! It was something completely out of nowhere. I remember waking up and thinking 'what the heck just happened?" I fell right back alseep and didn't know what it was until the news that morning. I had NO idea it could even happen in this region. Learn something new everyday, I guess. Okay, now maybe this should be in the rant thread, but who cares, here goes. What the heck is it about some of you kids actually wanting to experience or feel a bigger quake? You should be very thankful you've avoided a "big one" all this time. Natural disasters are NOT cool. I was always amazed to hear tourists or transplants actually tell me they wanted to experience a huge hurricane! I'd tell 'em, yeah, there's nothing quite like losing everything you own, wandering from shelter to shelter with no food, water, or clothes, and praying that there's someone willing to extend a hand of help. Ahhh, good times, right? Right? Scott "guess what, the gulf area is still 20 years from full recovery...if they're lucky" B.

Post pictures of your most prized item(s)
BeemerBoy replied to Erik Johnson's topic in Random, Random, Random
Julie said it best.....pitures. After making sure the cats were safe, it'd be a large RubberMaid thing full of personal pictures/negatives, and several disks full of digital pictures I've taken over the years. Unique possesions are great, but most of the things I own can be found in some way, shape or form on Ebay. They may not be the originals, but most things can be replaced. The only thing in my, or anyone else's house that cannot be replaced or duplicated are pictures. Once prints and negatives of your memories are burned, there is no getting them back. That's why I've actually worked really hard over the past year to consolidate every pic and/or negative I've ever taken so they're ready to be the first thing moved out of the house. EDIT: Lou actually metioned it first....gotta give credit where credit is due. -
Skydiving in the great Northwest with Nasai

^^ Quite the opposite, actually. There's so much pressure against you that I even found it tough to breathe at first. Just stick a windtunnel fan up your nose, and you'll get the idea. -

Wow, I bet the pandas feel right at home in those fantastic looking surroundings. The wallpapered box made to look like China's countryside was just too realistic for me. I'm assuming there's more to their habitat, and they were in that room due to the extreme heat? -

I went skydiving on the morning of my 21st B-day in Homestead, FL. It sucked. Well, to be fair, it was pretty much due to the instructor I had to tandem dive with. First of all, the guy was about a foot shorter than me, which was funny in it's own right.....imagine trying to walk or move around strapped to someone that much shorter than you. But yeah, it was this British guy who had been out drinking in the local pub the night before, and showed up that morning with a horrible hangover. He actually slept through the entire ride up to 13,000 feet. We had to wake him up when we hit the drop zone!! But anyway, he ended up pulling the cord about 15 seconds into the jump. I kid you not, we had enough time to spin a little bit, pose for the video cameraman, and then he pulled the ripcord. The jolt from the cord being pulled was kinda fun, and scary at the same time, but watching the cameraman freefall through the clouds was not....considering that probably should of been us too. Yeah, hanging in midair strapped to some dude you don't know (and may fall asleep at any moment) for 10 freakin' minutes was not that enjoyable. You kinda run out of things to say real soon. So, when you go, be sure to ask them how long the freefall will be. I'm not sure what altitude they're allowed to let you fall to, but I'm pretty positive we never even got close to it! -
I think you'll see we're all fans of Anchor Steam. In fact, I'm going to go have one now! Yeah, I knew Anchor Steam was a fave, but I was wondering more about Cerveza Imperial, and how that stacks up, if anyone's tried it.

Dueling Dragons Queue line...
BeemerBoy replied to BeemerBoy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Okay, first, thanks for the replies. I got a quick follow-up question now. For those who've said the line was around 90 minutes at one point in time, where did it extend to? Was it in or out of the castle? I'm just trying to visualize it. I agree with someone earlier who said it can feel a bit cramped in there. And although I'm not necessarily claustrophobic, I imagine it might play on my nerves a bit after an extended period of time. I mean I absolutely love to walk through it, and God knows I'd never wait longer than 30 to 45 minutes tops, but I'm just wondering. -
Okay, I've resisted this long enough. Here's my list. It's pretty eclectic, I guess you could say. In no particular order: Rick Blaine - The epitome of cool. (Google it, kids. ) James Bond - Like Rick Blaine, but with cool gadgets and more hot chicks. As any heterosexual male could tell you, this guy was a straight pimp. Indiana Jones - What kid didn't wanna be this guy? Batman - Definitely the coolest of the superhero genre. Sonny Crockett - It's a SoFla thing....you wouldn't understand. Darth Vader (in the good trilogy) - Best..Villian...Ever. Jimmy Conway "Goodfellas" - Best mobster ever. The Dude ("The Big Lebowski") and/or Brody Bruce (Mallrats) - The best of the on-screen slackers. Angelina Jolie as "Lara Croft" - 'nuff said. Tully Mars - The main character of two of Jimmy Buffett's fictional bestsellers, "Tales From Margaritaville" and "A Salty Piece of Land."

That's a good point. It's easy to forget that it's got the unload area. Someone please help me out on this one. I feel like an idiot for not being sure on this one, but.....it is a 3-train operation, is it not? I've never been at a time when more than 2 were really needed, and for the life of me, I can't remember seeing a third for either side in the shed. Wow, my memory is really going, I guess. -

^ It does seem somewhat odd at times when you think of it. Then again, they probably had the thought process that two coasters should probably mean twice the size of the queue? I don't think they anticipated the people-eater it turned out to be....and the fact that most people run to the Hulk first probably helps it out even more. Just a thought. -

Great pics Wes! Retro stuff rocks...and a big thank you to Ted for starting a nice trend here. In case anyone misses the toungue and cheek sarcasm, I wouldn't feel too sorry for those gators. Although I'm an animal lover myself, this is one species that isn't exactly warm and cuddly enough to have deep sympathies for. When you golf in south florida, you come in contact with them many times, and trust me, they lead just as good a life at Gatorland as they do anywhere else...if not better. Oh yeah, and one more thing.....they're Gators . A look at the avatar, and 'nuff said. I'm really gonna have to raid mom's collection of old pics when I visit in October. I know I can match you and Ted on the socks. Oh, and Ted...I went to the 1984 World's Fair in New Orleans. Be jealous, be very jealous. -
I was putzing around yesterday and started thinking about something completely random. As many times as I've been to IOA and have ridden DD, I've never waited longer than about 20-30 mintues, which includes the front row. Of course, being a native Floridian, I was always able to pick and chose the best times to go to the park and avoid big crowds. So with that said, I'm throwing this one out to all of you who have visited at busier times. What's the longest you've ever waited to ride? Please be sure to state whether it was front row or not, and when you visited.

Last beer? Hmm, no pics, but I'm sure it was something the experts would laugh at though. But hey, it was in celebration of soldiers returning home....what was I gonna do, tell them the beer sucked? Anyway, not much of a big beer drinker anymore. I lead a simpler life now....the partying days of south florida are behind me now, but I still know how to enjoy some fine brews when I'm out somewhere with friends. I've got a question for the experts (should I use that term loosely?). Back when I was more interested in the micros, etc., Anchor Steam lead the way for me, but a close second (although not exaclty a micro, I guess), was Cerveza Imperial from Costa Rica. I discovered it while honeymooning there, and occasionally found it in places when I got back home. How does it rate with you guys? Just curious.
