  1. 0. Wild One -- SFA 1917/1930/1997 (I don't really count this, since even though it was built in 1917, it was rebuilt after a fire in 1930, moved to another state in 1986, and re-profiled in 1997) 1. Thunderhawk -- Dorney Park -- 1923/1930 (originally built in 1923, made 40% longer in 1930) 2. Yankee Cannonball -- Canobie Lake -- 1930/1936 (originally built in 1930, moved to Canobie in 1936) 3. Cyclone -- Lakeside Amusement Park -- 1940 4. Thunderbolt -- SFNE -- 1941 5. Comet -- Hersheypark -- 1946 For a list of the oldest coasters, look here.
  2. Umm, sorry, there are no services available to private citzens that can get free real-time aerial photography. How about linking to an actual picture you saw instead of just the main page for some site? Also, your last link is a link to post a reply to a thread, and contains no information.
  3. The Reedy Creek Improvement District is a local governing body created by and for the Walt Disney World Resort, so that the parks wouldn't be subject to any state or city zoning or land use regulations that they didn't themselves create. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reedy_Creek_Improvement_District
  4. I don't know, even with a severe lasceration, I have a hard time believing that a 5-day stay would be necessary. Maybe stitches and overnight observation at the most, but it sounds like this guy's milking it a bit.
  5. Another article is at http://fredericksburg.com/News/FLS/2006/062006/06242006/201740 I love the part where they said "The car slowed, then stopped and, fortunately for the riders, ended upright." Brilliant!
  6. What is the Davy Jones effect?
  7. It wasn't an actual trailer before the movie. It was part of the commercials that AMC projects on the screen from a cheap computer projector before the lights go out and the real trailers begin. But, if you must know, it was "The Break-Up" (not the best date movie, I might add).
  8. There are pictures and video over at CoasterRealm. Quite possibly the worst thing I've ever seen.
  9. I saw this commercial in virginia advertising SFA, and apparently the guys over at Screamscape saw it advertising SFoG.
  10. I've worn sunglasses without any sort of strap (BTW, am I the only one who had to use google to find out what Croakies are?) on just about every coaster I've ever ridden, and I've never had any trouble with them falling off. Yeah, I've lost two cell phones and who knows how much pocket change, but never sunglasses.
  11. *cough*California Screamin' (launched looper)*cough*Aquatrax*cough*Impulse*cough*Volcano (inverted)*cough* Ooh, I should really get that cough looked at.
  12. Wow, I'm sorta surprised how young the board is. But then again, I didn't become what you would call an "enthusiast" until I was at least 16. Oh, and my first coaster was either Gadget's Go Coaster or Big Thunder Mountain at Disneyland (I think I rode Big Thunder before I turned 9, when Toontown opened, but I have a memory of riding Gadget's and thinking it was my first, so I'm not really sure).
  13. That is a great deal, since a normal admission ticket and the mooseburger buffet alone would normally cost around $79.
  14. I don't understand why there is such concern about chainging over to the new effects while riders are in the mountain. It takes 2 minutes and 49 seconds to cycle all the cars through the mountain, so stop the line for the three minutes it takes to seemlessly change over the music and the effects. That's a far cry from the 30 minutes they were talking about.
  15. Yes, USH's was first (which is why IOA's is 1 foot taller, just so they could beat USH).
  16. Yes, you heard right, they are aluminum. In fact, copper, which is also non-ferrous, would've worked even better. Now, in a LSM launch, ferrous rare-earth magnets are used as the "contact point" (to use the term above), and the electromagnets on the track push and pull these perminant magnets. However, the downside of this is that it requires very exact timing in order to launch the train. With a LIM launch, they can pulse the launch magnets in a row at any speed, and the train will eventually catch up to them. The short way to explain this is that it acts like a generator in reverse. In a generator, a magnet passes over a copper or aluminum wire and generates a current. In a LIM launch or magnetic brake, the magnet passing next to the copper or aluminum plate generates a current inside the plate turning it into an electromagnet. There is a website that does a really good job of explaining this stuff (and I think I've posted it here before), but I can't find it at the moment.
  17. I was also at SFA with my gf on the 4th, and can confirm that Joker's Jynx was closed.
  18. I've only been on California and Florida, but from what I hear Japan's is an exact mirror image of the florida one. California's is better for the following reasons: * An extra baby ultrasaur in the first lagoon * The falling jeep effect, which is way better than the crate (although way less reliable) * Perhaps the coolest effect is the giant T-Rex head that comes down straight over the boat. * The waterfall that hides the final T-Rex adds a lot of suspense, but the tradeoff is that the Florida and Japan versions have much more animated T-Rex
  19. Did they turn the volume down yet? I remember that even the parts that were straight dialogue with no special effects or music were incredible, painfully loud.
  20. What the heck? A 2 day 2 park ticket (with three consecutive bonus days) is only $99 from the Universal web site.
  21. I think the most shocking thing in that picture is that Clam Chowder in a Bread Bowl was just $2.99!
  22. Shamu Express is NOTHING like Flying Unicorn. Flying Unicorn actually has, you know, forces and stuff.
  23. Wait, does this mean we'll all have to get new t-shirts?
  24. I don't know, I still think Coupon: The Movie was much better.
