Djbrcace's Work Room [RCT 2]
robmiester replied to djbrcace1234's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
It would be neat if you added a concrete border/ditch for the track closest to the water, plus some mechanisms or fountains to simulate a water splash, as that area looks perfect for one. Other than that, it looks awesome. I love the station, and the scale of the ride looks immense, pun unintended. I sincerely await you submitting this (), and if you ever want more advice w/ it, just let me know! -

If they called it Kitty Hawk, that would not only add a theme, but continue the great (blank)hawk traditions of the company. -

Was there today and saw tubular supports near Drop Tower in the construction zone. On an unrelated note, Windseeker was closed for much of the day, at first due to technical issues, then due to high winds. I guess if they know there's high winds, they don't really need to seek them... -

More of my Disney park... -
Rudie, you bring up an excellent point about members. NE once was fairly elitist, back when we had some competition from other RCT communities in the early noughties, before I even joined. However, considering RCT has been around for 14 years (player for all of them as well, haha), it's, well, obsolete in today's ADD-generated attitude towards all things new. Now, we just want anyone who can still appreciate the game for what it is, and we pride ourselves on finding ways to advance the game an its output 14 years after it was created. Those who think that RCT ability means some sort of superiority may be those arrogant assholes that taint reputations, but for us at NE, we see RCT as a game for fun, like you do here; the only difference is that we convey our fun in different ways.

^I tend to skip to the "Carry Me" approach when the pavement is hot. -
^What members are you referring to? I don't see any NE members here that are overtly harsh, or even at the same level of criticism as a tougher NEer. Myself, nin, Liampie, Coupon, DJBrace, MeMeMe, tdub, Insanity, and brataz are all people who're contributing members to discussions of both sites, and I haven't seen any of them be rude in any way. In fact, DJBrace is a mod, and he and Coupon seem to hold down RCT2 very nicely here. We really want to welcome people with open arms, so please just know that those isolated incidents aren't reflective of NE as a whole. Every forum has its jackasses and rude members, but no forum/community should be dismissed on them alone.

I guess it is protectionist in a way; it's a rule from the very beginning of the site back in 2002. However, with the releases, I think part of the policy is to create some anticipation. Unlike TPR, where RCT2 is just one small part of a much larger community, RCT, and RCT2 especially, form the backbone of NE's community; it's what we revolve around, so we take it a bit more seriously than most other sites. In a comparison, TPR's forums can be seen as a community that sprung from Robb and Elissa's trip reports and reviews. NE is similar in that we are surrounded by our release and accolade system; we started out as a club, and that attitude, as well as our position as one of the few-remaining RCT-specific sites, creates what I guess can be an "elitist" atmosphere, but mainly because we pride ourselves on quality. We want releases to be special in the RCT2 community, the audience that WILL stop and go wow over these parks, so I'm assuming that this "unreleased accolade submission" rule is a way to generate surprise and a way to make the accolades special. Again, I'm not an admin at NE, who I'm sure could better explain the whole policy, but our site is central to the accolades, so there's some inherent stringency stemming from that.

I love it when people sign up only to post a complaint as if TPR is a general Guest Services department for all amusement parks. From the sounds of it, JCM is merely bitter that everything didn't turn out perfect for them. Rides break down, parks get crowded, unexpected closures happened. Sounds like someone needed to check both the BGW website AND weather.com before planning their trip. -
Only for accolades. If you submit it for an award, it can't be previously released, but otherwise, it's fine. Plus, you can release it anywhere once it's been released as an accolade. For example, I submitted a park to NE and won spotlight; it wasn't released before, so it was still able to get the award. However, once it was released as a spotlight, I could do whatever I wanted with it and uploaded it to the Games Exchange here as well. It's fairly annoying to see so many people on TPR categorize the site as "elitist" when very few are members, and those who are members on both sites are treated well.

Haunt is basically one large haunted house. If you go there fora credit run at night, you'll be disappointed to find the insanely long lines at the major attractions, as well as the large crowds. If anything, if you want to avoid Haunt, go during the day; the park will be practically empty and easily conquerable in a couple of hours. On another note, Windseeker is looking quite good. I'm glad they're giving it good enough theming treatment for it to fit into Fiesta Village rather than keep the generic "sleek" theme of the others.

^I like that. Seems very realistic. This is the entrance area for a small park I am working on. Tentative name is DisneyExpo, or Disney's World's Fair. It's basically a 1900-ized version of Epcot, with exhibition halls celebrating different types of technology, culture, transportation, etc, and an area with individual national pavilions. This is for a small contest over at NE with 5 other guys. Enjoy! -
Amazing water slides
robmiester replied to FLIPDUDE's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This thread should begin and end with Bombay Blasters. That was one of the most f-ed up slides ever, partially due to the fact that you could only see the entry and exit points, the OMFG dark drop, the speed, and the exit over the pool. Such a fun slide! -
I'm very impressed with how the makeover is going. It's wonderful to see Disney return to something a bit more immersive, especially since we know they can still do it (DisneySea, Expedition:Everest, DAK in general...). Paradise Pier always felt a little odd, considering it was neither a "romantic" version of the boardwalks down on the coast nor was it unique; it was pretty useless with its cardboard-y theming. Seeing it turn into something out of the 20s with its gingerbread-style architecture and (gasp)BEAUTY is wonderful and a return to what Disney does best: cohesive, immersive environments. With the retention of the the existing 20s aspects (Golden Dreams building, Golden Zephyr, Screamin, Fun Wheel) and the addition of more, it's finally turning into a true Disney area. The entrance looks like it'll be great. The postcard schtick was kitschy the first time you see it, but got old fast and was lost on a lot of people. The only downside to the new entrance is the loss of the letters, which were pretty great. Otherwise, seeing an immersive, well-themed main street area will be nice, and a better weenie than a giant hubcap sun. Again, COHESION. Carsland looks to be great, and it's awesome to see Disney trying a large E-Ticket for California that isn't a watered-down version of "Good Tower." The rest of it looks like it'll be nice as well. Overall, I'm excited, as you probably can tell, and I hope this addition is a step in the right direction for DisneyParks and a revival in Imagineering.

What Rides Scares the Crud Out Of You?
robmiester replied to EuroTre's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This'll sound really stupid, but at the time, Windjammer and Ghostrider at KBF scared the shit out of me. Windjammer kept me off loopers for four or five years, and it took Silver Bullet to enjoy them again. My mom took me on Ghostrider the year it opened (I was 6 or 7) and according to her, I wouldn't stop crying and screaming bloody murder the entire time. -

^I kinda take offense to the "insane detail, but bad atmosphere view" you present in your argument. I don't know about you, but I still strive for recreating an atmosphere within my work, whether it be a Six Flags park, a Himalayan mountain monastery, or a small FOAM park, as well as adding the appropriate details. Looking at some of the best parkmakers, they evoke wonderful atmospheres that the details are designed to enhance. Detail without meaning is excessive and pointless, but if it is meant to enhance the "story," it works fabulously. Would you criticize Disney for having insane details, or for copying real-life locations? Many great parkmakers do the same. Besides, a lot of the parks you put as examples are full of insane details and I would argue that they transcend RCT's raw quality. We want to transcend that quality. If we wanted to see RCT purely as created, we'd still be playing scenarios. However, some of us, myself included, love RCT's abilities to push boundaries. Realism is about recreating a potential real-life location, providing the right details, textures, foliage, landscaping, coasters, and most important, ATMOSPHERE, to accurately convey your views. If you see all realism as the same, and all recent work as the same, you really need to see more of what's going on. Please do not limit your perspective with limited knowledge. Us realists are interested in how things work, or how things interact. We love the atmosphere created by composition of elements, or how a building would function. Over done to you is well thought-out to us, and I would suggest you, as well as anyone else, should take some time to really go through recent realist releases, and see if they can immediately remind you of a visit to your homepark, or that TPR trip you took. We still want to take you to these fantasy worlds to tell a story, and we use the details to create and support an atmosphere. The only difference is that we want our work to be plausible. -

sfgamguy, I'm at NE, and I find that screen very well done. Some added details that would make it better would be some flanges on your supports, and maybe thickening the poles holding up that cover for the launch track. I think if you add plant life and some interesting landscaping to that screen, so basically filling it up and finishing it, NE would really like it. Ya know, we're not as bad as everyone thinks we are. It's only a few members that can be rude. Most of us, like myself, are there to help!
