  1. Because it's also made of wood? I don't see a whole lot of resemblance myself. I'd compare it more to the Astroworld Cyclone, just off the top of my head. It's a pretty classic woodie layout.
  2. This is just painful to watch. Someone needs to sit down with this guy and point out how utterly ridiculous he is acting in attempting to start a multi-million dollar venture by writing a few childish forum posts and begging people to waste their time helping him. I'm not saying the concept of revising the park in some form or fashion is out of the question, but this guy is just making a laughing stock out of the whole idea.
  3. Don't think so. Speaking from experience, those pieces aren't clear enough to pass for concept art. You need to convey what you're actually building better to get approval from most municipalities. I saw a simple park play structure get shot down recently because it wasn't clear enough from the drawings what it would look like. Really though, the second pic with the three corkskrews gives it away. Not only is it poorly drawn (for professional work, at least), but they'd never slap a bunch of inversions over a big pedestrian area like that, they'd have to have huge nets underneath it and it wouldn't look as nice as a quick pass through. Looks like a lot of the other doodles coaster fanboys do around here.
  4. Wait, so the entire ride will be enclosed? Looking at the barrel roll/butterfly turnaround area, that's going to be one massive set of buildings just to enclose a coaster.
  5. Those pieces look like low-stress pieces for the slow bit through the indoor area. Good to see the S&S Arrow tubular track again.
  6. Is the drop going to be enclosed? It's odd how they build the track, then add the building around it. We usually do it the other way around in the states... or do we?
  7. Now that the deadman is up, I can feel the excitement for this ride really well up within me. There's something about seeing the first serious curves on a coaster that gets to me. http://www.greatcoastersinterns.com/photos.php <-- Just in case you didn't notice the last update.
  8. Does anyone have any information on who owns the Happy Valley chain and how they have so much capital to waste on giant monuments surrounding their mine trains? I'm a big fan of theming, but these guys just seem like they piss money everywhere they can.
  9. That surprises me, considering how many millions they invest in that place. SDC has a lot less and they get well over 2 million a year. Celebration City is going to make a comeback soon, once HFEC ponies up the cash to completely re-think that place. On a general basis though, no park can just make a comeback without some serious capital investment. We've seen too many parks slip away to maintain this dream that some have that their local historic park will survive after having to slash operations.
  10. Awesome shots, love the sunset. It amazes me that an area as large as Wildwood can survive like that with only seasonal income. I mean, it's got to be hard for an entire community to go through cycles like that. Even Branson has a lot of winter activities going on.
  11. Wow, I would have never expected that to be there. The American section is somewhat disturbingly nice. Too bad their coaster collection isn't up to par with the rest of the park.
  12. Ugh, its gotta be tough to see a park that you've been so close to for so long go through such a transition. Doesn't sound like its taking well at all. When the long-time fans leave, you know something's up.
  13. This has actually been out for a good while now, though no one has built one yet. It's an interesting gimmick, but comes with an opportunity cost for those guests who don't want to get wet, plus the issues with the cost of water, additional seasonal downtime, etc. I don't really see it as worth it for most parks.
  14. ^I'm assuming it's some gimmick with moving floor space. The cars will stop for loading, I'm sure - I don't want to think about what it would be like to manage that mess. If there is a moving floor, that does imply that the dispatches will have to keep a regular pace, so no slacking when you're being seated! I can just see some large fellow putting a dent on the whole show when it takes 10 mins to convince him that he's too large to ride.
  15. The lighting and the quality of the camera have a lot to do with how faded the ride looks in those photos. Don't complain too much, it's just a boomerang. In two years you won't even remember that it's there.
  16. Can someone please explain the back story to me? I've watched both trailers, but they're pretty hard to understand. What I gather so far is: This kid's father vanished mysteriously on his way to Novgorod, the working of some sort of curse on the area. Legend has it though that he is still alive? It sounds really cool, it's just too deep to travel the language barrier very well. As far as the ride itself goes... wow. Between this and Blue Fire, you Germans get all the luck. It's not just the rides themselves, it's the sheer detail and uniqueness put into each. It just blows me away.
  17. This is it. Hands down, this has to be the best new ride of 2009. I can't believe the amount of detail going into this - it just blows my mind. We'll never get this in the states, SF and CF continue to just barf out coasters over parking lots and empty fields. It really makes me feel like I'm missing something.
  18. The name sounds a whole lot cooler now that there's a proper explanation for it. It's actually very witty. It's hilarious that they're modifying the layout by 1 degree just to break a record. The trains look simply bad-ass as well.
  19. Better idea: some one kidnaps one of the factory workers, swaps clothes, and, well, do whatever bugs bunny would do.
  20. Wow, it's ridiculous how fast these things spring up. That's like 500+ feet of bents in two days.
  21. Oh man, I've got so many hopes for this track, and yet none of them come anywhere close to being realistic. (SDC was originally supposed to get a coaster in 2009, right? ) Very few parks in the U.S. are in a position to buy B&M right now, and even if someone did, their order probably wouldn't be started on this early. I agree with Airtime&Gravity - this is pretty surely headed to China where the main demand is right now.
  22. A very unique and awesome ride concept indeed. Too bad it has such bad capacity. Who's manufacturing it?
  23. ^Probably not until the ride is ready, but you can see them in the shop here: http://greatcoastersinterns.com/photos.php?s=10
  24. ^Why would they coat the track with purple degreaser? Why would anyone even make purple degreaser? Unless, of course, they used purple degreaser so that when they painted it purple, the degreaser didn't subtract from it. I think it's going to be purple.
  25. The last press release is from April 2008, but it sounds like investor fluff. Seems like a ridiculous propsition to me, though the coaster looks pretty cool (if not ridiculous as well). How are they going to build a 244ft coaster out in the ocean? Really long supports?
