  1. Alright, so now there's another photo on the facebook page with even more track just strewn around. Prank, anyone? It's really going to have to be huge now to connect everything.
  2. As much as I wish this was headed for SDC, there's simply no topography match that I can see. Both TNT's valley and the valley below PK have been suggested, but neither are really that close to the rendering. Besides, the park just emptied out a whole lot of room on the back side. I think they'll work on re-developing that area first before they go off building a giant terrain woodie. Someday soon though...
  3. There's another photo on the intern site now: http://greatcoastersinterns.com/?page_id=125 It's just all over the place now. This thing is going to be about 2 miles long.
  4. I've been looking through each park suggested on Google Maps terrain view, but I haven't had that Eureka moment yet. While that's not exactly accurate, this leads me to believe more and more that this is either for overseas or it's a conceptual project.
  5. I'm biased, but if I had to guess what park this is going into I'd say SDC. They're in a position to invest in a massive new coaster right now, and a terrain GCII would be an obvious choice for them. They would also invest enough into it to make sure it stood out from Prowler. Of course, that's assuming this is a real project. I have a feeling this is more of an example project/practice for them. They are getting a lot of people worked up over it though.
  6. Can you get back the money left on the card/wristband at the end of the day? That's the only big negative I see with these systems. They force you to pay a lot to put a bunch in your account, then everything is priced just right so that you end up with a lot that you don't even spend. Just another way to nickle and dime.
  7. ^^I don't know about the wildcat, but that render on GCII's facebook does sort of match some of SDC's topography... A huge update was posted on Flikr today, showing even more work that's going on: Streets have been torn up and are being re-built, new water lines and such everywhere, buildings are being refurbished, FITH has had a complete make-over... All-in-all it looks like the park is really being cleaned up for it's 50th year in operation, and is being poised to grow in big ways soon!
  8. Been a long time since anyone mentioned it here, but a LOT has been going on with this ride and a ton of other projects around the park. River Blast is really shaping up to have a lot of awesome theming and really fits into the park well. Across the park, both Splash Harbor and Wilderness Waterboggin have been removed. They have also removed the old Apple Butter store building and possibly the old tree house that's been closed for years as well. All in all it's going to be a weird year at SDC! They'll have a ton of new land to work with in 2011. An SDC staff member posted a great photo update of everything here: http://sdcfans.com/forums/index.php?topic=150.msg11450#msg11450
  9. Awesome! Glad to see a park implement this kind of system without ruining it for us poorer folks.
  10. How about we have somebody contact the park and ask about this rather than go on complaining here? I'm fairly certain this is a mistake. I know the kind of people that update the site probably aren't the kind that pay attention to details like height restrictions. That has been my experience with a lot of data entry workers I've managed. Otherwise, there's probably a good reason for this restriction that goes beyond the park. I know vague federal laws have been slashing at the industry for ages now.
  11. Fun theme, but I'm sure the ride attendants are going to go insane having to listen to that song play in the station all day. I like how the concept art was built from this photo: http://rcdb.com/591.htm?p=6523 At least it's accurate.
  12. Silver Dollar City owns a campground called "The Wilderness at SDC" which also has a bunch of really nice cabins.
  13. Oh boy, while I'm glad to see Shapiro taking notes, I'm not sure if this will have good effects for HFEC parks. All the cool things they do might start to seem a little less unique if all the SF parks try to copy them. I think SF needs to concentrate on bringing back a quality amusement park experience, meaning: a jumble of good rides in a clean, friendly atmosphere that doesn't gouge your wallet at every turn. Getting some real food in there is a good step, making it affordable should be the next. They've already started cleaning up the parks, so they're getting there! I just don't want to see them start trying to mimic big name theme parks too much, at least not unless they want to go for the full-on experience.
  14. ^^ At least that lawsuit isn't as serious though. I've seen these kinds of suites occur to people near me, and all it takes is taking down the disputed materials. They could go out right now and chip the logos off the cars and not have to worry about it, seeing as they don't have the cash to buy the license. I agree with^ that the park is doomed at this point anyway. The real question is, who's up for round 3?
  15. I got to visit LWV several times back when I lived in England in 2002-2003. I thought the rat ride was the best ride there. I loved the tunnels you had to go through to get to it. The more ghetto it got with age, the better! How much do you want to be this is the same coaster though, just with a dinosaur at the entrance? At least they've got a top scan though.
  16. I've been a developer for several years now and have hosted sites at a variety of places. I have to say that Liquid Web has been by far the best hosting provider I've worked with, and many of my co-workers have said the same. They've been able to sort out any of my server issues within a few minutes on the phone, and I'm never on hold. After the initial call, they keep up with me via email or calling me back. They have never left me hanging wondering what's going on. They're very reliable and have a large operation going. http://www.liquidweb.com/ Also, media temple seems to be favored highly by a few of the clients I've worked with. I've found they have a somewhat clumsy management system to work through (on smaller set-ups, at least), but they also have good support and reliability. http://mediatemple.net/
  17. Do we have any small parks left to lose? I also see Vekoma, Gerstauler, and Intamin continue to lead the industry as they offer more and more affordable products with very reasonable quality. I think we will begin to see more manufacturers re-engineer their product lines to provide cheaper services rather than the massive showcase items of the past. I think this will be one of those years without anything huge announced. There might be a surprise or two (I know SDC is working on something), but I don't see anymore hyper coasters or massive rides going in anywhere.
  18. Well, there's not a lot to mess up with this one. Looks like a quaint little place from the arials. Definitely needs some variety in their slides. I just wonder if this is the first step in a larger plan to acquire another entertainment empire?
  19. ^ 7*8 would be 56 - there's 63 soaker's aboard the boats, so one boat is missing one? Or it's a misprint The thing I'm most excited about is simply the fact that they're reviving an awesome theme and bringing life to an area of the park that really needs it. I really hate to lose Tom Sawyer's landing, but I understand why they had to get rid of it with all those damn ADA requirements and today's kids (for whom a ropes area is FAR too dangerous ). I just hope I'm still able to get to the ribhouse without getting soaked!
  20. Finally, after two years of waiting, the announcement: Definitely an in-depth splash battle. It's been rumored that the components of the aging Splash Harbor will be moved to this attraction, making room in that corner of the park for something else in 2011. You have to give props to SDC for always coming up with awesome back-stories. Can't wait to hear more details! Oh yeah, the latest construction photos I know of are here: http://sdcfans.com/forums/index.php?topic=150.msg10302#msg10302
  21. OzCat ain't coming back. CC is being broken apart and prepared for sale as we speak. At least SDC will have a world-class splash battle in 2010, and hopefully something a lot bigger in 2011.
  22. I'd put my money on one of those newer Vekoma family suspended models, since they're so popular and fit in small spaces. Either that or a euro-fighter, depending on what crowd the park is trying to attract.
  23. Very interesting. Student Orgs. like this always a really great way to get a heads up for a specific industry. I know I'm currently working on a lot of dam and bridge projects with my school's civil group. You guys are lucky to have such an active group with so many neat ideas.
  24. You know they could just build taller seats. I don't think they're going to go through any effort to improve this ride though. From a cost-benefits point of view they can just leave it as is and it'll pull people through the gates just the same.
  25. I think it's still a possibility that OzCat is moving to WA, though indeed it's doubtful. I can't see them getting the Jack Rabbit since it was such a weird little devil of a ride, and had horrible capacity. They'll probably get Thunderbolt, which is a little weird for a park that is so large, but they've always been such a hodge-podge of coasters anyway.
