I unintentionally hijacked the Madonna thread with Borat discussion, so we might as well start a new thread about the awesomeness of Borat (and Ali G and Bruno). Borat is a reporter who hosts his own show detailing various aspects of Western culture to the people of his home country, Kazakhstan. He's also not a real person. The brilliance is that Borat (acted by Sascha Baron Cohen) uses real situations to create comedy. He remains completely in character as he interviews people about getting a job, buying a house, playing sports, etc. And the people he's interviewing have no clue. Imagine "Punk'd" except the person being punked never learns it's a joke. Borat's cultural upbringing also helps expose the bigotry and ignorance of the people he is talking to. Speaking of Madonna, did anyone see the MTV EMA awards when Borat (aka Sascha Baron Cohen) called her a he. "The singer before me - who was he? It was very courageous of MTV to start the show with a genuine transvestite." I love Borat.

For some reason, I had "Fever Pitch" in my Netflix queue, and I returned some movies, and I didn't update my Queue order, so they sent it to me. I don't know why I had ANY interest in seeing this, given the fact I: a) hate baseball b) hate romantic comedies c) hate Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore. I *think* I remember reading that the book it was based off of was written by the same guy who wrote "High Fidelity", which I enjoyed, so I thought maybe there was a chance that this factor would trump problems a-c. Basically I'm never going to get those two hours back. Good thing I was burning DVDs at the time, so I don't feel like a colossal idiot for watching it.

Chris Elliott was on The Daily Show last week and he said they had recorded the commentaries and that it'd be out at some point next year. My friends will be so happy, they have crappy VHS dubs they still watch.

That's the basic plot, but it's how the drug addictions manifest themselves on screen that's really incredibly disturbing. Watching it will make you never ever ever want to do drugs.
