TPR's "Coaster Footage" DVDs Being Retired
Jew replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^I think that is a great decision. Now people have their choice as to what style of video they want to enjoy. No need to buy the coaster expedition DVD just for the footage anymore, as I know has been the case for some people. -
The most disappointing thing of all is one of the most historic shows on television is officially dead after this. Every tonight show host sort of fit in with their generation...Leno is the "baby boomer" generations host of record. His humor plays well with that group, so it's not really an accident Leno was on top for so long. But now what happens when the baby boomers fade away? Conan was supposed to be the host for the next generations (X, Y, millennium). Now where does the show go After Leno is too old? NBC is really going to regret this. They've already alienated producers/writers/etc. by trying to cut them out of primetime, and now they are going kill the 11:35pm timeslot too.

Stratosphere's New 'Ride'

I think it would be pretty cool to hang out over the side and have that awesome view of the strip...but not $100 cool. -
Mitch Hawker's Coaster Poll 2009!

Why is that? Tatsu is smooth, intense, and has a unique layout for a flyer. X2 just beats the hell out of you. Overall, I'd say that is a solid top 20. It's clear that people enjoy Intamin and B&M hypers, which is fine by me, since I share that sentiment too! -

Again, this guy couldn't even make a good faith payment when it came time to apply for another loan...and now he has the money to open the park? Give me a break. -

Dumb, but nowhere near as dumb as some of the poo-poo Detroit has shoveled out over the years. Like the school bus with gas tank placed under the emergency exit. Or the Pinto with the exploding rear bumper. Toyota's acceleration issues are the modern day version of those issues that had previously plagued U.S. manufactured cars. But to get back on topic... Test Track is a ride that I feel was due for a "plussing." Hopefully a new sponsor will mean a nice refresh is coming too! -
^^I can't honestly think of a time on any of the three Tower of Terror's I have been on where the elevators have been half empty. Disney rides also offer more than one pre-show room (so there's a constant flow of guests entering the boarding areas) and more queue space after the pre-shows to ensure full elevators and vehicles (Test Track and Journey to the Center of the Earth follow the same model). But more importantly, as Robb mentioned: Tower's preshow is only 90 seconds long! 2 preshow rooms+90 second preshow+queue space after the preshow before loading+3 minutes or so between cycles=full elevators and maximum theoretical capacity. Whereas with Terminator... Long Pre Show+Short Ride=wasted capacity. There's really no way to avoid empty seats when you are forced to go through all 3 pre-show rooms.

The stunt show itself is one of the most popular attractions at both USH and USJ. The movie sucked, but it works well as a theme park show. -

At the very least, I do like his idea of making teams list players they don't intend to play on their injury report.

New Orleans was my favorite. Only because I thought Julie was hot. And not necessarily because she was smoking hot, but she had that whole "I'm cute and innocent" thing going for her.

Mitch Hawker's Coaster Poll 2009!

Riding Beast in the rain was one of the most miserable coaster riding experiences I've ever had. -
Correction: They dedicate their lives to entertain the world so they can make a shitload of money. I don't think many famous people are doing what they do out of the goodness of their heart. Just because someone is famous doesn't mean their life is any more or less important than someone elses. IMO, it's a damn shame celebrities get placed on such a high pedestal. There are real heroes like fire fighters, police officers, people in the military, people doing work for charity, and so on and so forth that die every day and no one cares because a celebrity passed away.

I wish the starters would have stayed in so would could still be on track to never have to hear about the 1972 Dolphins again. Mercury Morris would finally stop finding people to give him the spotlight! And while I understand the logic of pulling starters, I'm never a fan of a coach "over coaching" something. It's like in baseball when a manager pulls a starter dominating the game after 7 innings because the numbers say the guy at the plate is batting .100 against a guy in his bullpen...it's just bad mojo. Now the pressure is really on, as the coach and GM have basically just promised a Super Bowl victory by making the decision to pull starters and essentially quit on the game.

Considering that the stupid Twitter creators decided anything longer than 140 characters was too much, I wouldnt be surprised if @SixFlagsMM wasnt the only one making new words "unplanned" uses less characters than "unplanningly." I just think SFMM's PR team hasn't learned how to use the internet effectively yet.

Mitch Hawker's Coaster Poll 2009!
Jew replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I know everyone has different styles to their voting, but I believe that park operations can play a huge role in someones opinion. For example: Dodonpa is one of the most intense coasters I have been on, both the launch and INSANE pop of airtime over the hill, but...when you combine the fact the ride fizzles out after that with the fact I waited 3 hours for it, the thrill is diminished. Had I been able to re-ride it more and begin to appreciate it, it could have been ranked higher. -
Funny you mention that... According to THIS link, Kinzel currently owns 1,243,261 shares of FUN. Transactions of note: 1/11/08: 10,000 shares @ 6.51 1/15/08: 30,000 shares @ 6.51 1/18/08: 30,000 shares @ 6.51 4/17/08: 640,000 shares @ 6.08 3/3/09: Sale of 167,000 shares @ 6.38 So of his shares, there are at least 543,000 left from transactions he made a little less than 2 years before this deal was announced that he stands to make a HUGE profit on. News first broke in July of 2007 that they had enlisted Bear Stearns to help "gauge private equity firms’ interest in a buyout of the company." I'm no expert on the financial markets by any means, so this could all be a strange coincidence, but... The timeline of "start process of whoring out to private equity firms, buy a bunch of stock dirt cheap, sell to private equity firm for huge profit if the deal goes through" seems quite odd...

^ Touche. Though I also have to admit all of this talk is a bit pre-mature, as lots of shareholders seems to think this deal sucks. The headline section for FUN on Yahoo finance is almost entirely law firms announcing their intent to "investigate" whether the purchase is a fair price. That can't be good?

Maybe it's just because I've been in So Cal my whole life...but all the horrible people don't really bother me that much anymore. I'm probably just so acustomed them, for the most part I tune them out without even thinking about it. But I know they exist almost everywhere in So Cal. The last time I can think of that I noticed all this stuff was when I was in a rush to get somewhere, but had to stop at Target first. Then I realized how frustrating people can be. People blocking the parking garage for 10 minutes to wait for that slightly closer spot, blocking the shelf you need to get to because they are on their cell phone, and so on.
