  1. There's no law in California mandating height restrictions, OTSR's, etc.
  2. ^^ http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/don_banks/01/29/cardinals/index.html?eref=sihp
  3. If anything, he should be disappointed with the fact the height requirement was posted incorrectly and that there was no communication going on between anyone in corporate and the park about this. A roller skater with a lower height requirement really makes that general area a nice family area. Sandblasters, Scrambler, Jet Stream and the roller skater for little kids...RRv and Goldrusher for bigger kids. Plus a nice sized food court/sitting area.
  4. DOSH has nothing to do with this. They will only ask that the park enforce what is written in the manufacturers SOP. Which obviously shouldn't be 42", given the height requirements at other parks.
  5. ^^^^Here's another SITE I found that might help you!
  6. It's still going to be an epic failure. What fun is a football where the players don't want to hit each other and can't blitz?
  7. I agree with Robb. The poll idea is actually a great concept for driving traffic to your site...but the execution really does leave a lot to be desired. If the goal is for you to have your polls taken seriously, a little more thought should definitely go into them. For example, compare your options for best coasters with Mitch's poll. There's definitely some outliers that clearly don't belong in the debate for best coaster of the decade. You also included water slides in with actual water rides. That doesn't make much sense to me. Why not separate them into different categories? I'm also not even sure how the Dark Knight coasters qualify as an epic fail in comparison to all the other "epic fails" you could have picked from.
  8. I'd say that the lap bars were put into place much more for creating the illusion that you are "safe" and locked in, rather than being an actual restraint. Considering the fact all 3 rows of lap bars in a car lock in the same place, it's rare the lap bar even gets near your lap unless you are the fattest/tallest person in your car. Otherwise you can fall out/climb out/etc. just as easy as a kid.
  9. I'm with Colin. This form factor running the real OSX would have been awesome. I'm not impressed with a giant iPod Touch.
  10. Not sure which Universal you meant, but FWIW, USH has an on-site Sheraton and Hilton.
  11. So for my first hotel review, I'll do my latest trip. After 1 night in a Monaco Suite+regular room @ Monte Carlo (both very adequate rooms, but nothing worth taking pictures of. In fact, Monte Carlo is one of my favorite hotels for being cheap, clean, and in a good location), I paid to upgrade to a Loft Suite @ Hotel 32. For those of you who weren't aware, Hotel 32 is the renovated 32nd floor of Monte Carlo. If you recall, that was the floor destroyed by the fire. So insurance money paid for MGM to build themselves a brand new boutique hotel. All I can say is WOW. The rack rate is only $300ish right now, which is a hell of a deal. The hotel lists the room at 1200 sqft, and even though there is only one bed...it easily slept all 6 of us between the bed and all the couches. There's also a private concierge lounge with some snacks, soda, bottled water, etc. included. The best part though is the "suite assistant" who basically gets you whatever you want at any MGM property. We used them for all our dinner reservations and the best table @ Rok Vegas. And we got a limo ride to the airport included. Here's the best photo tour I could put together between pictures from my friends and my cell phone... I also did a very crude video tour using my phone that you can check out HERE. Oh, and to add on to Melissa's comments: Burger Bar @ Mandalay Bay is another great burger place. Decent beer selection too! And while at Mandalay Bay, another lounge with incredible views is MIX. But there is also only a very tiny dancing area there. View from one of the windows. The bar/desk area. Complete with Expresso machine. Everything in the room (curtains, lights, TV's) were controlled by Cestron touch screen controls. This one was in the bathroom, but there were two wireless ones as well. ...a touchscreen control FOR THE SHOWER. ...With yet another TV in the mirror, and... Bathroom with tub and giant walk in shower... The bedroom. Ridiculously comfortable bed. Not pictured: another 52 inch TV w/ bluray, cable, and direct TV. The other half of the living room. A 4 person dining room table and another TV. Apparently the "penthouse" version of this suite has three TV's on that wall! Part of the living room. 52 inch TV with cable, direct TV, and a blu ray player. And a ridiculously comfortable couch. Hotel 32 has two elevators labeled as being for the hotel. Problem is you rarely got to use those specific elevators because all 6 of the elevators on that bank go up to the 32nd floor (key access only)
  12. My thoughts exactly. I'm not familiar with credit cards in the UK, but if Barclay's is the first to offer this technology in the UK, I think these commercials are a great way to introduce the new product!
  13. You need to let go. Trust me, I know it isn't easy. But you just got to move on for the time being. If anything happens in the future, awesome. If not, you can't waste your time fretting over her while other opportunities might pass you by.
  14. Good luck finding enough space for a wheelchair. All of the more "famous" clubs are set up in a way where you really have to get a table in order to enjoy them. The dance floor/bar areas are always packed to capacity. It's more like a mosh pit than a dance floor. My personal favorites are LAVO @ Venetian (like a smaller, way less packed version of TAO) and Rok Vegas @ NYNY. Coyote Ugly and the club at Imperial Place (Rockhouse I think the name is) are good "value" clubs...cheap cover, a good vibe, and nice enough for you to still have a good time.
  15. RCDB does that all the time. They will report on things that are almost 100% confirmed. What's really frustrating is that people take it being on RCDB as the final confirmation.
  16. So you ranted about how Brazilians don't seem to respect the rules/understand the different structure, yet also don't want to make the effort to try and learn some of their culture/language so you can better deal with them as a CM?
  17. I totally agree that they help out the company & bring in a lot of $$. I would just like someone to explain to them the rules more clearly about how to behave at parks, about line cutting, & be more respectful to Cast Members directing them for certain attractions like when loading them on a one wait for the Cast Member to tell them to board rather than have them all stampede to try to get on at once. Wait a minute, you mean to tell me that guests from a different culture don't automatically know how everything works the second they step foot on WDW property? Your job is to treat them respect, no matter what they are doing. Especially considering they probably have no idea what they are doing isn't acceptable.
  18. ^I didn't quite understand what you were trying to say because you were not clear at all in what you were trying to say. Initially you were saying that there was another reason, but gave 3 other conspiracy theories outside of there being a bigger technical issue with the ride. Then said the braking system worked just fine. Finally in your last response you made it clear that you feel there is a bigger technical issue. As far as the lack of media coverage, I don't see what is fishy about that. There's no police report because there was no crime. There's no DOSH report yet because the investigation is probably not complete. There's no comments from anyone because I am sure there is talks going on behind the scenes that would be compromised by public comments. There's no news updates because it isn't news that the ride is still just sitting there. It's a non-story until new information is made available or the ride re-opens. What's fishy about that? I'm as big a Knott's/Cedar Fair critic as anyone, but it's really not fair to the park to speculate. All we know is what happened, and now have an update that the ride is being worked on. Which is great news.
  19. ^I think you are reading WAY too far into things. Those brake fins looked badly damaged. Can you say with 100% certainly that is how Intamin meant for things to happen if a cable snapped? Or better yet, are you aware of how things work in California with DOSH? You're assuming there wasn't major damage and that the park is free to start making repairs whenever they want. As far as to why news isn't being reported...well for one thing, it's an on-going investigation with the state. And for another, there's probably a lot of legal wrangling going on behind the scenes. Why should the park comment? Or why should the family talk if there's on going negotiations, where opening their mouth could cost them? Or maybe there's already a settlement?
  20. You're right, it shouldn't take any time at all to investigate why something like this happened, engineer a fix to make sure it doesn't happen again, machine the replacement parts, get the ride cleared by the state, and so on.
  21. Hey everyone: I figured there is enough of us Vegas junkies on here that we should have our own thread for posting news, construction updates, reviews, questions, etc. I just got back from another crazy trip to Vegas. Long story short: Rok Vegas is still my favorite club in vegas (and Tao is still incredibly overcrowded), Brand steakhouse @ Monte Carlo has the best Potato Gratin I've ever had, Tacos & Tequila @ Luxor is a bad rip off of Pink Taco, and Hotel 32 is incredible. I'll post more pictures from City Center and a Loft Suite @ Hotel 32 in the next few days. In the mean time check out Twister II's THREAD on City Center Or Renee's Las Vegas Marathon TR.
  22. ^Luckily for you, you can see the coaster from Citywalk. Of course, there is also no guarantees it will stay running after you buy your ticket to get into the park.
  23. ^^I'm curious about this too. I wonder if Zamperla is going to run it as a ride showcase for themselves, or use their carnival industry contacts and simply act as the middleman in booking independent rides/games/shows. Or both? Or use it as a sales pitch to carnivals: "buy our ride and we'll give you a place to set it up for the summer!" There's lots of possibilities. I hope it works out. I'm just glad it didn't end up as condos. The development craze of everything having to be condos/hip/modern/mixed use is really boring. It looks good, but it's so boring and bland.
  24. Could just be a preview/construction tour.
