Yes. That said, I always rent a car on long trips because my pickup has 210,000 miles on it and gets around 18 mpg on the highway. Using Hotwire with enough notice I can usually get a compact car that gets 35+ mpg for $20-25 a day (fees and taxes included). I usually end up spending less than I would on gas in my vehicle depending on the trip.

You get one line skip for each of the major rides and a wild card to use on any ride. I personally thought it was a waste of money, but I went on a low-volume day. YMMV the week of spring break. I also enjoy driving and have taken week long trips with other people where they never touched the wheel. I have driven to Chicago and Western Mass from here in NC with only gas stops. Folks around here call it a death march if you are hitting a lot of parks in a short period of time with no downtime or multi-day park visits. More like a fun march to me, really.

I would agree that BGW is a better two-day park than KD if you are going for more than thrill rides. I visited both in August with FL+ and Quick Queue. YMMV depending on the days you visit, but we only used the FL+ at Volcano at KD and only used one QQ for Verbolten at BGW. We had light crowds and rode all our favorites many times. We are pretty much coaster-only people, so one day at each park was enough. We did catch a show at BGW during a brief thunderstorm and it was really well done. Personally, as a coaster fan I would FL+ KD for one day and spend a full day at BGW and make a trip something like this: Sunday: Drive- Preview KD Monday: ERT & FL+ at KD Tuesday: BGW - drive a bit Wednesday: Carowinds FL+ - drive a bit Thursday: SFOG Friday: Dollywood Saturday: Drive home Alternately, I would drop SFOG and Dollywood and spend two days each at BGW and Carowinds. Or drop SFOG and spend that day at Carowinds or BGW. Carowinds ERT appears to only be in the first two weeks of August unless the schedule changes. KD hasn't posted an ERT schedule yet, AFAIK. I don't consider myself a credit whore, but I am not afraid to death march. I posted here about a trip I was planning for this summer and based on advice received I have split it into two separate trips. Which are currently devolving into two death marches. I may only post the itinerary for those trips after they happen to avoid ridicule here.

So Cedar Point does Early Entry for an hour every day? KI appears to be 30 minutes. And Carowinds seems to be 30 minutes for Fury 325 & water park on select days in August. KD has a schedule forthcomimg. I couldn't figure out from Dorney's site what their schedule is. I guess I assumed incorrectly that Early Entry would be every day at every park. -

With that lineup, how many of those coasters could be knocked out during early entry assuming average mid-week either early June or late August? My trip this year will probably include two days of early entry. Will get FL plus if necessary but will probably make that a game time decision based on crowds. I think we will try to get all the coasters in first day if possible, and then use the second day for re-rides on the favorites. -
The Official "TPR Coaster Poll" Thread!
hoppedup replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I tried both. Still getting the "no" symbol as soon as I click arrow or coaster name. I can drag, but cannot drop anywhere. I tried Firefox. I was able to drag coasters to the ranking list. Still no drag and drop in Chrome. -

Still can't drag and drop a coaster, but the box at the top that says, "It's kinda empty here. Try dragging a coaster from below up to this box." is new this morning. It wasn't there yesterday for me. -

Huh. I just tested it on the latest Chrome, Safari, and Firefox and dragging and saving is working just fine for me. When you drag to the top, you have to hold it above that line just for a brief second and then it should drop into place. Is that what you are doing? As soon as I click on the arrow and move, I get the "no" symbol and cannot drop anywhere. All coasters have an arrow and no number ranking. It says to drag outside the box to rank but that doesn't seem to be working. I'm using chrome 64-bit if that makes a difference. Also, I tried hitting the save button to see if that would help and the progress circle just spun for over an hour. -

I'm on the latest Chrome browser and ranking is not working. I can't drag the coaster names to anywhere. -

I thought the whole coaster lineup at SFOG was solid. I would even ride Georgia Scorcher again. I went in with low expectations on that one based on my experience with Vortex at Carowinds. The floater airtime on Goliath was great. Superman UF was probably my least favorite but I would ride it again for sure. We did not ride Daredevil Drop b/c the line was ridiculous. I expect the 1-2 punch of Goliath and Mindbender will be a 3-hit combo with the addition of Twisted Cyclone. I plan on a Carowinds>SFOG>Carowinds weekend in March. I am having trouble finding any info on ERT at Six Flags parks. Is there such a thing for season pass holders? It seems like I found a mention a while back for people with certain credit cards and maybe Samsung phone owners.

I like numbers. I have kept a spreadsheet since 2009 tracking all the music shows I've gone to (over 800!). I now have a similar sheet for roller coasters listing the coaster, install date, type, manufacturer and number of rides. It won't ever mean anything to anybody else, but I enjoy looking at it. My credits jumped from 7 to 42 this year and will increase by over 100 next summer alone. I can't wait to ride them all and log them in. I like the fact that in a second I can see that Swamp Fox is the oldest coaster I've ever ridden and Invadr is the newest. Or that I have ridden six Arrow coasters or twelve B&Ms. Or nine coasters at Carowinds and six at BGW.

Ten Best Coasters You Rode in 2017
hoppedup replied to boldikus's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Easy for me. Sacrilege for many here I know, but I went to five parks this year and rode a total of 7 non-coasters: Escape from Pompeii The Curse of DarKastle Le Scoot Shenandoah Lumber Company Whitewater Canyon Justice League: Battle For Metropolis (SFOG) Busch Gardens Railway (Tempesto did not agree with my daughter's stomach, so we took a break) These were mostly ridden right after eating. We wanted to ride something with little chance of stomach upset. -

Same list I posted in Ten Favorite Coasters thread as I rediscovered roller coasters this year after a 22 year drought. My summer 2018 plans include over 100 new credits so this will be tougher next year. 1. Volcano 2. Lightning Rod 3. Goliath (SFOG) 4. Thunderhead 5. Afterburn 6. Griffon 7. Intimidator (Carowinds) 8. Wild Eagle 9. Mindbender 10. Great American Scream Machine -
Great report! We were in line four times for LR on our visit to Dollywood this year. It shut down three times, once when we were next in line. Luckily we got a walk-on (back row) and one train wait ride (front row) as we were preparing to leave the park. I can't wait to go back during the day. Our first rides on this coaster were after dark and that ride is seriously dark! It was interesting not knowing what was coming next.

East Coast/Midwest road trip 2018
hoppedup replied to hoppedup's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I liked Flight of Fear, Blazing Fury, and half of Mystery Mine. Do those count for dark rides? Honestly any ride that may upset my stomach (scrambler, frisbees, etc) might reduce my coaster riding time. And we can't have that. -

... oh I drink a lot less these days due to diabetes anyway. And my ex has become Puritanical about it around my daughter. We will be taking a rental car and she will be a newly licensed driver so it really isn't that big of a deal. I will be dropping off a big box of local beers on my unsuspecting friend in Cleveland, though. -
East Coast/Midwest road trip 2018

Thanks for the recs! We won't be needing much recovery time (well she might, but she can sleep while I drive) and driving long distances is not an issue. There won't be any drinking on this trip. As for trip A, I'm thinking of picking my daughter up on her last day of school (June 8) and heading to KD for as much time as we can get in. I am an early riser so we shouldn't have any trouble knocking out SFA on Saturday and maybe even getting some evening rides in at Dorney. We have Platinum/Gold passes for CF and SF parks, so any of those we can go to in the evening are already paid for. The more I look at it, Great Escape does seem skippable. We aren't credit whores and most likely won't be doing Wild Mouse or kiddie coasters unless they are super unique and cool. SFGA on the way back sounds good. maybe even drop in on KD again on the way back home if the mood strikes. I will check out the smaller parks you listed. As for trip B, KK has been a maybe since I first started planning this trip. We do plan at least 1.5 days at CP and KI. We also can take 10 days if necessary. Skipping KK would give us two full days each (or more) at CP and KI. Also, we will mainly be riding coasters and flumes. Neither of us really care for MOST of the flat or dark rides that we have ridden and she won't do drop towers or tall swings (no idea why) that I do like. I know that puts us in the minority around here but it's how we like to enjoy parks. -
Carowinds Discussion Thread
hoppedup replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Was just looking at the map for Winterfest. Is there any reason Afterburn is the only big coaster running? I understand at other parks how they block off areas for holiday events, but this one seems to go throughout the park and all the thrill coasters are closed. Carowinds has to have one of the mildest climates of all CF parks, so surely it isn't weather related?
