Six Flags America (SFA) Discussion Thread
hoppedup replied to Mind Eraser's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ Which is why I posted about calling. There may be a workaround that isn't listed on the website. Here's what the site had to say about upgrading from season pass to membership: I have a 2018 Season Pass. Can I replace it with a Membership? While it is not possible to apply the cost of your 2018 Season Pass to a new Membership, we will for a limited time be able to offer you in-park spending credit more or less equivalent to the purchase price of your 2018 Season Pass in the form of "Six Flags Bucks." Six Flags Bucks can be used to purchase most things in the park including food, merchandise, etc. and will be valid for the rest of the 2018 season. Until April 20 or within the first 30 days following park opening this spring (whichever is later) we will give you credit close to the purchase price of your 2018 Season Pass. After that we will pro-rate your credit based on the number of times you've visited during 2018. -

I had a Gold season pass from SFOG and wanted to change to membership. SFA was my next SF park to visit and I live about halfway between them, so a trip to SFOG just to do that was impractical. So I called SF and they told me I'd have to come to SFOG to get my membership card OR I could cancel my season pass and buy the membership from SFA and they would issue a refund for the pass. So that's what I did. I just sent the confirmation number from both sales and the money was back in PP account in about 10 days. I was given a full refund as I had picked up the pass in November, but had yet to use it for a 2018 visit. There was verbiage on their website's FAQ that passholders changing over to membership would be given pro-rated SF bucks to spend at their home park based on the number of visits you've made. That option was not very attractive. That's why I called. YMMV -

My first ever coaster road trip
hoppedup replied to RobertWord's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
What do you not like about Roar? And I didn't say El Toro was not intense, just not as intense as I was expecting. Roar was really rough. If I had to list a bottom three for woodies, I'd put Thunderbolt (SFNE), WIldcat (HP), and Roar on there. I might re-ride Roar at the end of a park day, but not the other two. Of the coasters we rode at SFA, I'd probably rank them like this: Superman ROS, The Wild One, Joker's Jinx, Roar, Batwing (shoulda skipped, but daughter wanted to ride it). Apocalypse was closed, but we weren't going to ride that one anyway. It's a shame Volcano was closed while you were at KD. I would put that one as my second favorite coaster at KD after TT. We also mostly skipped clones on our recent trip. -
I don't see Dorney on the list: https://www.carowinds.com/tickets-passes/funpix Can I use my FunPix card at other Cedar Fair parks? All Season FunPix cardholders will get to capture, collect and share all of their photos at all other FunPix parks in 2018: California’s Great America Canada’s Wonderland Carowinds Cedar Point Kings Island Kings Dominion Knott’s Berry Farm Worlds of Fun

My first ever coaster road trip

El Toro not intense? ROAR was your favorite at SFA? Can't say we agree on those points, but I do enjoy reading other people's opinions. FWIW, I thought Superman ROS was the best coaster at SFA. It's funny, my daughter refused to ride Joker's Jinx based on the look of it. I thought it was great and didn't know until afterward that it's Flight of Fear outside. She loved FoF, BTW. Thunderhead at Dollywood is a pretty great coaster. From your thoughts on El Toro and ROAR, I'll be curious to see what you think of it. -
Just an FYI for anyone thinking of upgrading/switching to membership from season pass. I recently decided before a big trip that a diamond membership made more sense than a gold season pass. From the FAQs on SF website, I was lead to believe that if I upgraded, the cost of my pass would be pro-rated and given back to me in SF bucks at my home park. Also that all pass changes need to be made at the home park. My "home" park was SFOG and my next SF park was SFA. So I called and asked what I could do without reporting to SFOG (4.5 hours south) before going to SFA (5 hours north). The CSR told me to buy a membership from SFA and then cancel the SFOG pass. When I asked about how the SF bucks would work, she said they would issue a full refund. I was a bit skeptical, but did as she suggested. I sent confirmation numbers from both sales to SF and the full amount of two gold season passes was refunded within 3 days. YMMV.

Best Roller Coaster you rode THIS MONTH!

I logged almost 40 new coasters this month. Phoenix at Knoebel's wins by a pretty wide margin. -

Because they like airtime? I thought it was a great coaster. Vortex at Carowinds is the worst coaster I have ever ridden. -
What are your TOP TEN COASTERS
hoppedup replied to ddaver177's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Bit of a shake up in the last two weeks. It will probably get all scrambled again in August 1. Fury 325 2. Phoenix 3. Skyrush 4. Lightning Rod 5. Afterburn 6. Wicked Cyclone 7. Twisted Timbers 8. El Toro 9. Nitro 10. Goliath (SFOG) If I ever get to meet Alan Schilke, I hope I don't make him uncomfortable with my fanboy-ness. Can't wait to put Steel Vengeance on this list. -

Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
hoppedup replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
We got to KD at around 7 p.m. on a Saturday recently and a storm had just rolled through. There was a mass exodus of people. Sweet! So I checked the app and TT was not running, but Racer 75 was, with no wait, so we headed that way. While we were waiting to enter the station, we saw TT was running, so we boogied over. There was only one train running, but we were at the bottom of the steps anticipating a short wait. The train was not getting out very fast so I timed a few cycles. From complete stop to departure was 3.5-4 minutes at first. I kept timing and the times were steadily dropping. They got really close to a one-minute cycle, but a walk of shame changed that to 2:16 after two attendants pushing couldn't get the restraint to green-light. We waited 45 minutes or so. I explained to my daughter what an RMC conversion was. After TT she was excited that we had at least three more to ride this summer. -
There were signs warning that Safari Adventure was prone to early closure, IIRC. We only waited a few minutes to get on a half-empty truck and during our tour were informed we we were the last tour of the day. Crowds were really light last Wednesday, though. I think we got on somewhere between 3-4 p.m. Our tour guide was great and reminded me of a young Jerry Lewis in looks and mannerisms.

2018 Summer Shenanigans Tour
hoppedup replied to Jcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Nice report. When I asked my daughter what her favorite park was from our recent trip, she replied, "I think Hersheypark had the best coaster lineup, but Knoebels was definitely the coolest." We really didn't think we'd spend so much time here, but were glad we made it a full day visit. And of 39 new coasters in one week, she put Phoenix as second only to Wicked Cyclone among her favorites. To thos who haven't been, I will echo every other person here who has visited this park, go as soon as you can and plan to spend a full day. -

I purchased 3 $20 ticket booklets for $48 at a Weis market for my daughter and I. It was enough for the both of us, YMMV. If you are riding everything, go for the wristband. I would probably go for the wristband next time and marathon Phoenix and Impulse. -

Apocalypse was closed the day we were there recently. My daughter said, "We weren't going to ride that one anyway, were we?" Nope. We went straight to the back of the park and got two front row rides on ROS without getting out of our seats. Then we did a few more moving around the train without leaving the platform. I really enjoyed ROS, Joker's Jinx, and The Wild One. ROAR and Batwing, not so much. We were there about 2 hours and got multiples on everything we wanted to re-ride. We skipped ME based on reputation but thoroughly enjoyed Riddler's Revenge at SFNE. The knowledge gleaned from this forum is invaluable at making coaster/park decisions. -

Thanks for that info. I am aware now. We may still take that route just to skip weekday traffic. Morey's was just on the way and I only saw a 1:00 p.m. opening on the main website. -

Found the masochist. When we previewed, we showed the ticket lady our printout and she marked out the 'P' with an ink pen without scanning anything. I assume we can use the ticket any day and not just the day after the preview. I'm pretty sure we can anyway. We are too honest to print out a fresh one and preview again. Also, we were not charged for parking for the preview. We have decided to go to Morey's Piers tomorrow and take the Cape May Ferry and meander home and add a Hershey stop to our August trip. -
They had the ride ops, the merch stand folks and even the safari guide asking, "Did you try Cyborg yet?" It's so dead my daughter got coastered out so we did Skyway, Safari Adventure, and the Houdini thing. She still wasn't up for coasters so I went back for more El Toro, Nitro and a front row Kingda Ka. Good times! Except for Green Lantern. It was better than Vortex, though.

Preview is an awesome feature! We had a little trouble getting in and were able to get: Comet Skyrush Superdooperlooper Great Bear Trailblazer Storm Runner Fahrenheit x 2 Wildcat Laff Trakk Lightning Racer We got the last ride of the night on LR. Most everything was a walk-on or station wait. Laff Trakk was only real wait at about 20 minutes. Fun, but one and done. Wildcat should be burned to the ground. Truly awful. Looking forward to re-rides on many of the others tomorrow. -

Will do next time. We already left so we can make preview at Hersheypark. My daughter said Phoenix was second only to Wicked Cyclone so far this trip. I will post a full TR with pics when I get back.
