Well, I've struggled with my weight for a long time. I joined a Gym back in August 2003, and I've been with it ever since. I usually do the weight machines, in fact I can now do close to 400 lbs resistance on one of them. I can't do free weights since I have no one to spot for me. Then I do some abdominal excercises, including a lot of crunchers, then I spend around 40 minutes on the treadmill starting out at 5.5 mph for a jogging speed (I usually spend a minute jogging, and two minutes walking, except for the first 10 minutes where I jog one min and walk for one min) and working my way up 6.5. I usally burn around 400 calories that way according to the machine's readers. I don't usually weigh myself though, because I find most scales to be terribly innacurate, at least the ancient one in the gym anyway. All I know is my clothes are fitting a little better than they used to. But I lose weight very slowly, so I have a long way to go still. My belly still hangs out, everything I eat seems to go right there, and I'm still generally flabby despite my work on the weight machines and such. But I do feel like I have more energy for things like work anyway.

Best Theme Park Food

Ah, cheese and Gravy. Sounds like Poutine fries, which are better known in Canada. I went to college along the Canadian Border, and ate that stuff frequently -
RCT4?

I agree about the tunnels. I was so disappointed that you couldn't make those in this game. And it's basically a sluggish game all around, even on my HP Pavillion. -
I don't really have a problem with Starbucks. If they want to put one in a park, let them. I don't know what to make of Chik-fil-A really. But it seems that they're really not helping in changing other peoples perceptions and stereotypes of Southerners, lol. I know you'd never get my mom, who's extremely biased towards the South, near one.

Yeah, CP has a lot of things going for it, but quite frankly none of the food there has ever really wowed me. -

Zero g-rolls and cobra rolls are my favorites, along with the good old fashioned vertical loop -
Why aren't there more dark rides?
Movieguy replied to Billy Hill's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Exactly. Disney used to be all about taking chances and doing stuff that would make other people around you say "You're crazy! This'll never work!" Now they're just going with what's a guaranteed profit instead of what's truly innovative. -
TR: Six Flags Astroworld 4/10/05
Movieguy replied to Rastuso's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ You know, that's a good idea. I'd like to see them try it. Though you may not see it for many years. They're still trying to approve expanding the Carousel Mall in Syracuse to make it even bigger than the Mall of America (no joke!). But as with everything else, it's stuck in buerocratic limbo now...*sigh* That's NY for you...nothing ever gets done :? -

Eh, whatever...I'm just glad I've been to better parks. Cold, cloudy and damp Upstate NY isn't exactly the most ideal place for a park, especially under a state legislature whose answer to every problem is "keep raising taxes!!" lol. They should seriously consider a big indoor park. -
Just out of curiousity Rob, where did you get those Toybox songs? I can't seem to find any albums of theirs for sale anywhere.

Why aren't there more dark rides?

Plus, dark rides take years of planning. Remember that The Indiana Jones Adventure in Disneyland opened after planning that went back to the late 80's. Yup, that's what parks are all about these days, cheap and quick. -

One of the worst parks in the country huh? Well I can certainly feel for you there pal. Keep in mind that my home park is the lowly Six Flags Darien Lake, which seems content in never again adding a new coaster after putting in their version of Superman: Ride of Steel, considered by many to be the worst incarnation by the way. But, it's at least nice to see that Astroworld is at least making an effort to improve. -

New indoor theme park in Memphis
Movieguy replied to cgodsey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well, it would be worth it just to see an indoor park built. You hardly see any of those around anymore. As for the article...well, I can't see it, because I'm getting a "page not found" notice at the website... -
Why aren't there more dark rides?

Well, I don't blame them, cause I have a hard time handling dark rides that intense as well, and I'm 24 hehe. I've never gone on Dinosaur, cause I'm not a big fan of stuff jumping out and scaring me, so I'd just close my eyes the whole way through. My nerves are too easily frazzled for that. But, I still realize the importance of dark rides despite that, and that's why I defend them. I've heard the stories about kids being taken off Dinosaur crying, especially during it's "Countdown to Extinction" days, and I wonder if that's been happening with Journey at DisneySea, because I saw the sample video here from Tokyo Disney and that looked like one hell of an intense ride. I almost jumped myself seeeing that big worm-like thing appear. -

Why aren't there more dark rides?

Nah, I think it's more of a case of Disney cutting back costs in every way they can. It's like the way they play it safe and just release sequels to already popular movies instead of trying something new and different. So it's the same with the park. Horizons and WOM were getting on in years, and they had many chances to simply shut the things down for a while and update them...but instead of that, they let them sit and rot, before tearing them down in favor of more thrill rides, when those thrill rides could have easily shared the land with the existing rides. Animatronic heavy rides are just too expensive to maintain now I guess. And why go to all that trouble when you could just make another 3-D show and thrill the audience with some cheap scares. Pretty soon when you mention the term dark ride, a lot of people are gonna think you're talking about one of these 3-D shows, because they're everywhere now. -
I saw Sin City back on Friday, and I loved it. I know this had major star power with guys like Bruce Willis and Clive Owen, as well as some others, but to me, the best part of Sin City was seeing Mickey Rourke as Marv. He was just brilliant, and had so many great lines that he delivered perfectly. I've never liked Mickey Rourke much before, but now I think he has this "grizzled veteran" quality about him that makes him so much more entertaining. I think Quinten Tarantino should consider casting this guy in his next movie. I bought two DVD's at the mall after seeing this. Sideways This is an interesting film, funny, but strangely touching as well. If this had come out in the 70's, it would have easilly won Best Picture. Alexander Payne (Who also directed "About Schmidt") is just fabulous at showing that us guys can feel the pains of aging and insecurity just as much as the ladies can. And he sets up a lot of nice akward humor in the process. The Incredibles Finally, somebody figured out that animation is, as Brad Bird said, a medium that can be used to emulate other genres, and not just a genre itself. This amazing and daring attempt by Pixar to make an action comedy completely from CGI animation shows that not all animated films have to feature cuddly animals and gratuitous musical interludes. And that star power isn't always necessary, as the main characters are voiced by the likes of Craig T Nelson, Holly Hunter, and some NPR actress whose name escapes me at the moment hehe. They're not big names, but the voices fit with the characters, and that's what Pixar's concerned with, proving that they are the smartest animation studio working today IMO. If you haven't seen this yet, check it out now.

I know, it's a shame when you think about it. I'm constatnly talking about how Epcot used to have all these great elaborate dark rides like Horizons and World of Motion, which are both gone to make way for thrill rides. Well, at least I have DVD's about those two from the Exctinct Attractions Club -
My Jurassic Park Ride Idea
Movieguy replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
These are all very interesting ideas. I've never been on Journey, but it sounds like a pretty intense experience, and if something in the same vein revolving around Jurrasic Park came along, it would really be something. I especially like the idea of rainfall in the enclosed spaces. -

Well, I think a lot of it has to do with demographics. Parks these days are trying to woo an audience made mainly of teenagers and college students, and other twenty-somethings. And a large percentage of those people prefer roller coasters.
