I don't really watch this show too much. Maybe a few of the bad auditions for laughs, but after that I lose interest until around the end. I just assume some pretty white girl's gonna win it all. That's what the music industry's about these days. "The look". Which is why I'm not at all surprised that the heavy girl got voted off. It's not about talent in pop, it's how many posters and magazine photos you can get adolescents to drool over. You may point out Reuben Studdard and Fantasia Barrino as exceptions, but...what have they done lately? Look at the news, and it's all about Kelly Clarkson, or even Carrie Underwood in some cases. Sorry If I sound so mad, it's just a combination of me not getting the popularity of this show, and my general disenchantment with music today.

What Roller Coaster are you?

I'm the Incredible Hulk too. -
It's just the way of the world. Anything that's identified with youth culture, that's distinctly used among young people, like rock music or video games, is going to be labelled as dangerous or even degenertative in some cases among the older generations who can't understand these things. And you always fear what you don't understand. Yes, there are creeps out there who misuse the world wide web to fulfill those twisted desires, but more often than not, creeps like them can be very easy to sniff out and thus avoid. I don't know about other people, but the minute anybody I know online starts insisting we meet in real life, I immediately become suspicious.

Have you ever gone to a park alone?
Movieguy replied to arlen23's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I love being able to explore parks at my own pace. If you remember from my TR last summer, I even flew down to WDW all by myself and stayed there for nearly a week. It was great, even in the hellish July heat It is nice to have others around, but they'd have to deal with my relaxed pace, and my constant restroom trips. -
Ultra Twister coming to Six Flags America?
Movieguy replied to quazi's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well, it's nice to see such a unique coaster being utilized...even if it is a TOGO. -
Oh yeah, that Islanders jersey was a doozy as well...though the guy on the logo reminded me more of the Gorton's fisherman...

The Official Mlb 2006 Thread

Well, the Pirates are already 0-4, so I've already lost interest in this season. Mark Cuban says he's interested in buying this team and keeping them in PA if things continue to get worse. I sure hope so, cause they BADLY need his money. Anyone they get who's talented ends up leaving. If not...well, it looks like you're getting an MLB team, North Carolina. -
Of course! How could I have forgotten the Chicago White Sox's uniforms from the late 70's and 80's? Well...at least there isn't a friggin rainbow design on this one!
-
Texas is another good choice, mainly because their uniforms are so similar to the Bucs' old uniforms, which I mentioned earlier.
-
Ohhhhhhhh man!...that Blues uniform is hideous. I guess there's an uglier uniform than the Astros old threads after all. Doug "I stand corrected" Booth
-
I'm not the world's biggest sports fan, but I never forget the look of the uniforms from the teams, especially the really ugly ones that have come along in the last few decades. Here are my picks for some of the worst Uniforms of all time... -The Houston Astros of the 70's and Early 80's... -The Denver Nuggets of the 70's and 80's -The Pittsburgh Pirates of the 70's -The Washington Bullets of the 70's -The Tampa Bay Bucs from 1976 to the Late 90's. Were they Pirates, or creamsicles?... Not the best way to use the American flag's colors. Looks like someone peed all over this Jersey Yuck!...that's all I can say Is there an uglier uniform out there?...

Parks that got nothing this year...
Movieguy replied to jarmor's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah, exactly...Rochester and Buffalo...two economically depressed areas that nobody else in this country gives two you-know-whats about. Everyone's leaving that area, and I'm considering doing the same in the future. -
Funniest rider noises?...

How did you end up here???
Movieguy replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't fully remember...I think I'd heard about it through Thrillnetwork.com's message board, and googled it thereafter. I was looking for a new place to talk about coasters anyway, because I just didn't like the kind of discussions that were going on in Thrillnetwork...I won't elaborate, because I don't want to sound like I'm bashing it. It just wasn't my kind of place. Anyway, I looked through the videos, and was instantly hooked. -
Oh. I completely forgot about this one local place we have not far from my house. It's called Viva Taqueria (A take out stand, with a full service restaurant section called Viva Cantina), and it was started by a Mexican-American who moved here years ago. I actually washed dishes there briefly, and got to fry up some nacho chips too. I never tried their tacos, but their burritos are HUGE, filled with the meat of your choice, including Chorizo, which is hard to find in a restaurant around here, and all other kinds of good stuff. They even have a selection of hot sauces made from different peppers you can use. It's some of the best Mexican food I've ever tasted, and the restaurant was recently voted as having the town's best Happy Hour.

Parks that got nothing this year...

Eh, I'm used to SFDL getting shafted year after year. I had high hopes after Superman opened, but it's clear that's the extent of SF's interest in this park. It makes you wonder why SF even bought the damn park in the first place, if they're just gonna keep giving all their attention to SFGadv and SFNE as the big parks of the Northeast, and let this place sit and rot. Hell, even the Great Escape got a new waterpark that's indoors. Come on SF...what do we the people of Upstate NY have to do for you to give us just ONE stinking Beemer. Doug "Just another case of the NYC area getting everything" Booth -
Still, they could re-theme the whole deal to resemble Black Hole in some fashion. Have some outer space effects in there, and theme the whole queue around a space station. Both the Space station, and lost mine theme are popular for indoor coasters, but the lost mine theme has been done an awful lot lately. Let's see some balance returned.
-
It depends...homemade, I prefer tacos. When I go to Taco Bell, I prefer their burritos.

I rented "The Squid and The Whale" Yesterday, a film about two teen boys in the 1980's whose writer parents are going through a divorce. It's a quirky drama/comedy that has some interesting, and amusing moments, but it seems disjointed with some of its moments (A few of which are rather icky and unneccessary), plus it ended a bit too abruptly for my taste. 6/10

What have been some of the funniest noises you've heard a rider make on a coaster? I remember that my grandmother (Who unfortunately passed away a month ago) used to make the funniest squeaky screams during the days when she could ride coasters...especially one time when we went on Space Mountain. I also remember this guy on one of the "America's Greatest Roller Coaster Thrills" videos who went on the Great White at Morey's Pier. It was in the POV, so I didn't see his face, but he sounded like Elmo on speed. As they were leaving the station, he went... "AH-HAHAHAHA!...OHHHHHHHHHHYEAHYEAHYEAHYEAHYEAHYEAHYEAHYEAHYEAHYEAH!..." I'd have been scared, sitting next to that guy...

I mainly listen to 96.3 FM here in Ithaca every morning, when the Bob And Tom show is on.
-
So, it looks like a re-theme will be in the works. Perhaps this means that they'll take out those unneccesary stops in the ride all over the place. The idea behind X:\ No Way Out was an interesting one at the time, but it's clearly one that doesn't work too well.
-
It's becomming abundantly clear that as Thorpe Park continues to grow and expand, that this painful reminder of the park's previous management is becomming more and more irrelevant. So what does the future have in store for this multi-colored Pyramid? I remember hearing a while back that they were going to completely re-theme the inside. Anyone here know if there's any weight to that rumor?

Most Improved Theme Park?...
Movieguy replied to Movieguy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You're right...I don't know what I'm talking about here. I drop my nomination for USF then, and nominate Holiday World in it's place. Jonathan's absolutely right about the transformation that's taken place there since the 90's.
