Personally, I've never really cared for the colours at all, and Xcelerator is one of my favorite coasters. The sea foam green and coral may fit in with a beach theme, but Xcelerator is not a beach themed ride. It is a hot rod car themed ride. And in it's current faded state it actually looks like it might blend right in with HangTime. I would hope that it can get an overhaul so it stands out out a bit more.

I don't think so. We know from the renderings that the back half of the track - after the second inversion - wraps around the lift hill and the station before entering the cobra roll, which means that the lift and station should be set further back from the fence than that. More toward the center. This fan made video, though not official, also gives a pretty good idea of the layout and what I'm talking about. . Assuming that the entire ride is confined to the area within the current construction fences, then that space you circled looks too close to the edge of ride "property" to be the station footprint. My guess is that's just footing foundations. You'll notice that across the way near the employee lounge there is another similar pit with rebar framing. I would surmise that the station and lift will be in that center area that has yet to be dug up. Or it could be further back off camera near where the old RipTide building was. Then again, I could be wrong and so could the video. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I wondered what was taking so long to get work started once demo as complete. I thought they were just dicking around waiting until national roller coaster day. But then in one of the many videos which I now can't find, the park spokesman mentioned to the reporters that they had been working closely with Gerstlauer on the design and had just made the decision to demolish the old RipTide building because they still needed more space. I had wondered why they hadn't taken that building down yet. So it turns out that they have been in the design phase this entire time. Their seeming to not know what they were doing was actually just that. They didn't know exactly how much space they would need because the ride was still being worked out. That seems odd to me. Why wouldn't they have everything ready to go before they even start tearing down Boomerang? Is it common to be working on ride design during construction?

Best Theme Park Show You Have Seen.

The Hanging, Knott's Scary Farm Wild West Stunt Show KBF Waterworld, USH Fantasmic, DLP now this is going way back, the Sparklett's Water and Light show Sea World SD -
Beginning this Friday at Knott's Marketplace, you get one hour of free parking plus two additional hours validated with Chicken Dinner Restaurant and TGI Friday's receipt only. No meal plan receipts. No merchandise store receipts. Under the old system you just need a receipt from any Marketplace location. Passholders could ride some rides then buy a postcard from Virginia's and get a total of three hours free. Not anymore. They are really cracking down on people using that parking lot for anything other than dining.

What's your closest coaster?
WestCoasterKing replied to FishyFish's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Oaks and Wild Waves, the parks themselves, are almost exactly the same distance from my house driving, but in a straight line according to Google Earth, 'Zooooooooom' is closest by .6 miles. -
Does anyone know what exactly the problem with Xcelerator is? It went down almost two months ago (which was not planned maintenance) and it still says TBD on the Knott's website. If the cable broke, you'd think that they would've had the ride back up by now. The last time I rode it was back in April and it was running great with two train ops. It's just really strange that it has been down so long and there's no news about when it will open back up. I think the length of downtime is part of what helped fuel the LSM launch rumor. It has to be something major in their mind. Then again this came from Facebook fanboys not the Dippin Dots guy so... grain of salt.

I've heard rumors that Xcelerator may get an LSM launch. I'm sure they are getting tired of cable breaks and such. Is there any realistic chance of that ever happening or would that be too expensive a proposition. Would it make more sense to just cut their losses and start over with a new coaster? Personally I hope they don't. I love the hydraulic launch. Xcelerator and Monty are my favorite launches. I've done Yolo coaster and other LSMs and they just don't have the punch to the gut.

So nearly every coaster is down for maintenance until the end of the month. I've never noticed before, is this normal prior to Haunt? Oh and Monty and Xcelerator are now TBA. I read a rumor from the Dippin Dots guy that Xcelerator won't be back up until next year. I'm never doubting him again. He said dive coaster and Gerstlauer and he was right so....

^^ The shin restraints were added a few months ago. Apparently in 2014 some kid thought the the ride was over even though it was still rolling into the station, and he stuck his foot out of the car and it got caught and jammed between the train and the platform. Why Knott's waited three more years before adding the shin restraints is anybody's guess..

If you owned your own theme park
WestCoasterKing replied to martinb's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I would theme my park to the trolly parks of yesteryear. The setting would be a large park-like setting with a train around the perimeter and all the rides in the center. The train would go through some dark ride elements. There would be a Merry-Go-Round at the center of the park. One of the signature rides would be a drop ride built inside of a tower. Picture the Tower of Jewels at Lakeside Park in Denver. It would include various light and sound affects and be themed as a haunted attraction. There would also be a modern wooden roller coaster, classically styled and painted white. That's all I have for now.
