  1. You assumed the drop would be 150ft, when in fact all the press release stated was that the total height was 150ft. There was one press release (which is still out there) which states the ride will have a 15 story drop 96 degree drop LINK HERE. I think therein lie the confusion. But if you think about it, 1) All drop heights include the leveling out curve at the bottoms, and 2) The inclined holding section at the top is technically part of the drop, you just pause for a moment on it. As others have so eloquently already stated, this ride will still kick ass, so let's just enjoy it.
  2. I wonder if they should have gone with white track for that.
  3. ^ The Skyloop lift structure is about extends about ten feet above the track itself, so I wonder if the listed height is the structure or the track.
  4. ^ Unfortunately that foundation is probably going to haunt Knott's for years to come if Sol Spin doesn't work out. I have a thought. Use the existing foundation for a launching tower ride. Sure I know they already have a drop tower, but launching towers are wicked sick rides. I'd dare say better than most drop rides.
  5. The official unofficial Dippin' Dots rumor says that Mondial gave Knott's a super big discount. Another very uncredible rumor says that the ride was free and Knott's only had to pay for the installation.
  6. Except most machines are put through weeks of intense rigorous testing, sometimes months. Sol Spin experienced it's first problems during it's initial test runs in the park. Then after finally opening it experienced more problems within the first week of full operation. It makes me wonder how many issues they found during factory testing before even shipping it to Knott's.
  7. Sol Spin is not a carnival Top Scan that was made permanent. It is a whole new design prototype. For starters it has an extra seat at the end of each arm, which just makes it all around bigger. The support structure is bigger. The motor is bigger. Mondial hasn't seemed to have such gtmrest luck with prototypes at Knott's. Maybe that ground is cursed.
  8. I used to think differently but then I pulled the stick out of my butt and decided that if it has a train car that runs on a track than it's a roller coaster. I was just wondering what all you other coaster nerds thought.
  9. ^ Are the trains built by RMC as well? The wheel assemblies looks a lot like what we saw on the Raptor tester video awhile back.
  10. What can I say, I'm a purist. To each their own.
  11. ^ I hope you're right. BTW, I have gathered that most people here don't consider Larson Fireballs or Superloops to be roller coasters, going as far as to mock SiX Flags for adding one and calling it a coaster. So then why are so many here calling these Skyline rides roller coasters when they seem to just be glorified superloops?
  12. Looking at those Skyline rides I'm more and more convinced that RMC has found the customer for their T-Rex track and we may never see and actual RMC T-Trex anytime soon if the Raptor is successful.
  13. For once all the coaster "nerds" are the sane ones and I'm the crazy one. I admit it's nitpicky but I also don't like exaggerated marketing claims. I'm not complaining that the drop isn't 150 feet. It'll still be fun. I'm just pointing out that they are claiming something other than what's reality.
  14. LINK15 story 96 degree drop". 15 stories is 150 feet.
  15. You'd be surprised how many comments you hear from people wanting Soap Box Racers back at Knott's alone.
  16. ^ Don't advertise a 50 foot drop as a 150 foot drop. Simple.
  17. Just out of curiosity, which installations have you ridden (so I know which ones to avoid)? I have yet but just looking at them I want to vomit. I have ridden both Green Lantern and X2 and both made me barf. I hate tumbling rides like zippers and such. If the FreeSpin is anything like those then no thanks. Rollercoasters are supposed to be 'runaway train rides' not flat rides.
  18. Well, I was wondering about that because they are advertising it as "hanging for two seconds before plunging into a 150 foot a beyond vertical drop". But looking at the various renderings, the top section with the angled 'drop brake' looks to take up about a third of the tower's height. Then you have the part at the bottom where the track curves and levels out. That appears to be another fifty feet. Now I know they always include the bottom part in the drop height, but would they really include the brake in the drop height as well? In order for the drop, including the bottom curve, to be 150 feet then the entire structure would have to be closer to 200 feet. I really hope the tower isn't 150 because that means the actual vertical part drop will only be around 50 feet. Meh.
