As of June 12th, the missing track piece has once been restored and the yeti does have limited mobility as well as the disco effect. Or at least from what I could tell as I was speeding by... The Yeti hasn't been modified. The fan on his fur and the strobe light gives off an effect like he is moving slightly but he has not actually moved in quite a while.

This week's Diagon Alley Media Event continued with a morning filled with celebrity encounters, lots of food and time to explore more of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter... What a view to wake up to! The inside of the Leaky Cauldron restaurant is much bigger than I expected! The morning started with several Q&A sessions, starting with the expansion's creative leaders. Next up was the Harry Potter film star group of Domnahll Gleeson, Robbie Coltrane and Warwick Davis. Seriously stunning. The dragon really is the focal point of Diagon Alley at least based on the view from the main entrance. The panels continued with more stars from the films... We even had the chance to see the dragon breath fire! Tom Felton and Helena Bonham Carter spoke on the last panel of the day. Here is the copy of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone that is earmarked with all of the possible food items that had not been ripped into the real world at the time Diagon Alley was being conceived or were pulled for Hogsmeade. Executive Chef, Steven Jaysen showed off his latest creation, Fishy Green Ale. The actual Leaky Cauldron. Here's the menu from the Leaky Cauldron... And I just had to try some of the Fishy Green Ale (the fishy part is edible blueberry flavor balls like boba tea). Toad in a Hole! Fisherman's Pie (my favorite of the visit)! Here's the Ploughman's Platter for two. Anyone up for dessert? I love this place so much! Home to Butterbeer Ice Cream... My new life blood. Magical Menagerie is home to some wild beasts... And that's just where you can find them. Any idea on what this is supposed to be? It's not a macaw, no, because of its claws. Magical Menagerie is a nicely sized store specializing in creature plush available for purchase. I took a turn down the dark path of Knockturn Alley where the dark wizards dwell... Should I go further? Knockturn Alley is entirely enclosed and gives off a totally "dark" feel to it, unlike the rest of Diagon Alley. Nope, it was actually 11:00 am at the time this photo was taken. Pulled straight from the movies! Borgin & Burke looks great inside! There are some very peculiar things that happen inside of Knockturn Alley... Like this for example. Weasley's Wizard Wheezes builds on the momentum from the former Zonkos, with more merchandise options and a much larger space for guests. And I thought it looked big on the outside! Ready to stock up on some Quidditch gear? In case you were wondering what the entrance to Diagon Alley looks like from the inside. So much detail! Just look at this beauty! Carkitt Market is cleverly designed with a huge glass roof structure. Already sampled your options last night... Lots of small storefronts built practically on top of each other. The Gringotts Bank Exchange is where you can purchase really Gringotts currency to be used anywhere at the Universal Orlando Resort (think Disney Dollars). A place to get more themed beverages... It is beautiful! Maker of secondary wand options? So much to see in Diagon Alley! This park's Owl Post is much larger the one found in Hogsmeade. There is no bad angle to be had when it comes to photographing Diagon Alley! It appears that the new interactive wands are already for sale in Ollivander's on Diagon Alley. Along with some character wands. A neat display in another shop within Diagon Alley... Time to check out the original (technically not) Ollivander's in Diagon Alley... Looks fantastic! And our wand keeper was fantastic too! Ring the bell! She's been chosen by a wand! Where could I be going next? That's right... Deeper into King's Cross Station we go! Platform 9 3/4ths? That's the way to go. Here she is! For you signage lovers. I got an entire train car to myself. It features authentic British snacks! There's actually a food and beverage stand in the queue for the Hogwarts Express... It does exist! So incredible! Time to head into Platform 9 3/4! The Pepper's Ghost effect is simple but extremely effective! Disappear! Disappear! There's trouble brewing on the way from London to Hogsmeade... Harry, Ron and Hermione stand right outside of your cabin on the Hogwarts Express in an incredibly realistic frosted glass effect that impresses when the characters get especially close to the window. Both directions of the train pass Malfoy Manor along the way, though the experience is different each way. Deatheaters must be present! Dementors on the train! Expecto Patronum! The essential treat trolley experience on the Hogwarts Express is partially replicated in the form of an appearance, but you can't buy any snacks from this trolley. Hagrid drops in on his flying motorcycle to wave hello! The enchanted Ford Anglia flies by too as you near the Forbidden Forest. The approach to Hogwarts Castle is a powerful moment for sure! Now approaching Hogsmeade Station! Hagrid waves goodbye as the Hogwarts Express leaves Hogsmeade Station to make its way to Kings Cross Station... You don't just see shadows on the frosted glass in the Hogwarts Express, you see amazing depth. The effect is fantastic! Buckbeak the Hippogriff makes an appearance on the return trip from Hogsmeade to London. Centaurs of the Forbidden Forest follow the train as it moves back towards London. Coming in for a close call! Shameless plug for the new expansion! Voldemort (the antagonist of the entire book/film series) makes a blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearance on the trip from Hogsmeade to London just before passing Malfoy Manor. If you blink, you'll miss him getting struck by lightning and turning into a tree. I'm not making this up! I love this effect! The Knight Bus makes an appearance in London as well... This incredible bus arrives in London at the same time we do, just in time to park along the London Waterfront to see it in person... And like magic it is here! The driver and the shrunken head are outside ready to interact with you! In the window of the London Waterfront record shop facade this record makes another reference to Jaws, the dearly departed attraction that bite the electric wire to make way for Diagon Alley. The London Waterfront facades mask a huge Diagon Alley expansion that has surpassed expectations on all levels! Behind these walls are exciting new rides, theming, shows, food, beverages, interactive experiences and tons of detail that just has to be seen! Special thanks to the Universal Orlando Resort for hosting us this week to experience all of the incredible new additions to the resort!

To sum up the coaster vs. simulator/dark ride question for Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts (as I currently figure it based on my one ride last night)... It is basically an advanced dark ride with coaster segments and thrown into the mix. The coaster segments are unique because of "breakaway" track segments, which I won't spoil at this time. The ride has spinning motions, which no one has really talked about yet. I've only done one full ride so I'm still working on figuring it all out and will detail it more after I ride it again today. The best way I can sum it up right now is, a little bit of Mummy, a little bit of Spiderman, a strange hint of Poseidon's Fury and LOTS of huge 3-D screens. As for the brick wall effect for Platform 9 3/4, it is a really fun but simple effect that you as the person going through won't really experience, but the guests behind you will. The effect uses Pepper's Ghost to simulate you walking through the wall.

Well I’m back from what was arguably the most incredible first-time theme park experience I’ve ever had. Let me preface this review with a few notes. The first is that while I am not a Harry Potter fanatic (I only read four of the books growing up but I have seen and own all of the movies), I do thoroughly enjoy the franchise and all that it has to offer in the theater and theme park environments. The second item is that the following words are fueled by shock and joy from what I’ve just experienced… Later today I’ll be revisiting The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley again, which will likely level out my review, but the shock-and-awe praise that I’m about to deliver should be shared, lest it wear off even in the slightest between this initial experience and the next. Diagon Alley takes everything that worked about Hogsmeade and elevates it. The most immediate difference you’ll find when you enter is the sheer scope of the land. This is not a quaint village at the base of a mountain home to a famous castle. Diagon Alley is built like a city, and feels like one too. The facades are tall, wide and incongruous leading to a very asymmetrical, magical feel to the place. Upon entrance to Diagon Alley from the London Waterfront outside, you immediately see a dragon perched atop the entrance dome of Gringotts Bank, which occasionally breathes fire. Yesterday night’s visit followed the conclusion of the VIP red carpet event, giving us from approximately 9:30 pm to 12:00 midnight to experience as much as possible. Simply put, that is nowhere near enough time, even when the queues are clear for a media event. Diagon Alley is so full of activity, sights, tastes and experiences that the price of admission to Universal Studios Florida would be worth it alone for this one realm especially once the crowds expected to flow in once the land opens to all guests on July 8th, 2014. With more time in Diagon Alley set for later today, I’ll withhold my full review until I’ve experienced everything, but I will share my insight below based on my experiences this evening and then I’ll update the post with the rest of my reviews after I have had a better chance to get to know the land this coming morning. Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts – This ride can’t be praised enough for all that it is and all that it accomplishes. Without spoiling the ride’s unique story, I can confirm that the ride has many elements that no one will see coming. This is a game changer for Universal and for the amusement industry as a whole. The ride combines coaster elements along with simulator technology to create an experience that is unlike anything else. There is simply nothing in the industry to compare it to—this ride sits comfortably alone in its own category. The queue begins with a tour through the famous Gringotts Bank entryway, with goblins surrounding you on all sides and ornate chandeliers above. This grand entrance alone trumps anything found in the queue for Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. Moving deeper into the queue you have the option to have a photo taken for your Gringotts Identification Card. The next room leads to a pre-show theater in which Bill Weasley and Griphook, one of the goblin bank leaders discuss their upcoming descent into the vaults. Onward into a moving elevator surrounded by overhead screens and shaking walls and floors, the illusion of descending into the cavernous vaults of Gringotts is impeccable and puts the former Hydrolators of Epcot's The Living Seas' past to shame. Once out of the elevators, guests grab their mine goggles (3-D glasses) and ascend a spiral staircase towards the loading platform, with stalagmites above. The loading platform is grand and cavernous and the mine carts are victorian/steampunk in design, looking much like an evolution of the ride vehicles found on the neighboring Revenge of the Mummy towards the front of the park. Here's where the SPOILERS come into play... Read no further if you wish to experience the ride with a fresh impression. The cart dispatches from the station at a quick pace and moves into a giant screen-filled room in which Bellatrix Lestrange and Griphook along with Bill Weasley from the pre-show arrive at the cart junction. Your cart is recognized as being full of intruders and Bellatrix casts a spell to ensure that the intruders are dealt with. The track beneath you tilts forward at a steep angle, holding for a moment before the ride vehicle lunges forward into a dark pit for a thrilling drop. After a quick turn, the ride slows within a cavern, encountering a series of gigantic trolls as the vehicles take an unexpected move and begin to spin. The trolls attack the vehicle leading to a virtual plummet that thanks to screen technology and the vehicles' motion platforms ends with incredible effect. Bill Weasley leads an escape with more spinning along the way, but this is interrupted by another encounter with Bellatrix, this time with Voldemort himself in tow along with his horcrux snake Nagini. They cast a spell that propels the vehicle backwards into a lava-filled room. Voldemort approaches again, about to cast a finishing spell when Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger swoop in on the dragon seen earlier in the beginning of the ride, chaining the ride to dragon as it flies away. The surrounding 360 degree dome that is seemingly sealed off opens up with a puff of smoke as the vehicle is pulled forward by the dragon, which crashes through the Gringotts walls for a thrilling escape. One final pass by Bill Weasley and the dragon concludes the ride experience as the vehicle returns to the station. *END SPOILERS HERE* The Hogwarts Express is a brilliant conveyance system with a fantastic story (unique depending on which direction you are headed). The trains are absolutely gorgeous and the interiors match perfectly with what has been previously seen in the films. Knockturn Alley happened to be the standout of the night for me. It is an indoor experience within Diagon Alley themed to feel like it is experienced outdoors and at night—a beautifully simulated illusion. This set of dark corridors is mesmerizing, seedy and eerily exciting in a way that starkly contrasts the bright colors and lively facades of the rest of Diagon Alley. While it doesn’t host any one attraction, just walking around Knockturn Alley is an experience in and of itself. The Ollivanders wand experience is the same as the one found in the original Hogsmeade, albeit with larger parlors for which to host additional guests. There are three parlors in Ollivanders, all beautifully camouflaged behind wand shelves in a long hallway that are actually doors to each room. We're finally here! And we're parked on the red carpet, ready to go! Robbie Coltrane was on the red carpet along with other stars from the films to promote the debut of Diagon Alley! The Phelps twins were here as well. The special "moment" kicking off the debut of Diagon Alley involved shutting out the lights in front of the waterfront for a brief period of time. The Night Bus arrived and the driver ended up interrupting the show. Tom Williams (Chairman/CEO, Universal Parks and Resorts) was on hand to kick off the festivities! Robbie Coltrane repeated his original tapping of the brick wall from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone to open the wall into Diagon Alley. And of course there were fireworks! (Through the trees!) And plain fire too! The cast of the films gathered for a photo before the end of the ceremony. Here we go! Absolutely gorgeous! I'm here to open an account! One welcome gift for us was the map for the interactive wands we would receive later that night. I didn't get the chance to use it, but by this point I was already so overwhelmed to be in Diagon Alley, I was near tears. I love this "living portrait." A look at the ride vehicle in simulated action. These elevators put the Hydrolators to shame. The pre-show for the ride includes an awesome "musion" effect that has to be seen in person to truly appreciate! So neat! Time to board! Simply put, Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts may (in my opinion) be the most cutting-edge, game-changing attraction of our time. There's the money shot! It is astounding just how big Diagon Alley feels once inside. There are tons of food and beverage options in Diagon Alley including this quaint stand. Another angle for the dragon... In case you were wondering, these shark teeth are a tribute to the former Jaws attraction that once existed on the plot of land that Diagon Alley now occupies. The facades really are huge! The Owl Post here is gigantic! Time for some refreshing beverages! So I tried the "Fishy Green Ale..." This was my reaction. Carkett Market's covered section should really be great with the Summer heat and rain. Interactive wand stations are scattered throughout all of Diagon Alley as well as in Hogsmeade. I seriously love this! How about some ice crean? Butterbeer ice cream! That's all I need in life. Knockturn Alley has some really neat window displays. Some different potions to mix in with your Gillyweed. One guest was testing out her new wand on the interactive game. Seriously awesome! Shiriki, is that you? Details in the window! There were some awesome projection effects on these canvases. Need some wizard money? I waited to buy any Gringotts currency, but it was nice to see it in person. I did get one of each flavor to go. So clever! Ain't she a beauty? Welcome to the Leaky Cauldron. The main entrance/exit to Diagon Alley. How about a ride on the Hogwarts Express? Here's Banks from the Orlando Attractions Magazine. He's ready to ride! This. Is. Awesome! Holy cow! No detail left ignored! Good to know! The locations are tied together because of the train, so you'd naturally see Hogsmeade if everything had worked out as plan. I'm all over this! Can't stop staring at this! Be sure to check our Gringotts before the stanchions go up in the queue. Looks incredible! Even better than the ones in the queue for Forbidden Journey.

Today the Universal Orlando Media Preview Week continued with the "State of Our Universe" presentation, followed by a VIP tour of both parks with some special experiences along the way! Most notably, the Universal Orlando Resort officially announced that The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Diagon Alley will officially open on July 8th, 2014! Photo courtesy of the Universal Orlando Resort. Photo courtesy of the Universal Orlando Resort. Our morning started out with the "State of Our Universe" presentation... There were some technical issues with the podium's microphone... So the Blue Man Group came out to help fix the issue! Bill Davis, President and COO of the Universal Orlando Resort spoke to media, promising some exciting announcements for the Universal Orlando Resort to be released in the coming months. Thierry Coup, Senior Vice President of Universal Creative came to stage to talk about the history behind the development of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Diagon Alley. Then the stars of the film came out to share the exciting news that Diagon Alley will officially open to the public on July 8th, 2014! Evanna Lynch shared some thoughts on her experiences with The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in contrast to her experiences working on the films. Where could we be now? Time to meet the stars! So this happened! Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood from the films) took the time to share her thoughts on Diagon Alley with us! I'll admit it... I love The Wizarding World of Harry Potter! A sneak peek at what's to come later this evening... The walls surrounding the Hogsmeade station for the Hogwarts Express are now down! But the original Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Hogsmeade still has beauty and charm. And they know how to treat us with Butterbeer! The infamous Butterbeer mustache. Seriously stunning even four years later! I'll never get tired of this view... This is in an odd location... Nothing to see here! Move along! Because I could. Thierry Coup stopped by during our VIP tour to share some history on the development of Transformers: The Ride. Look who joined the party! Once again Universal continues to treat us very well for this special week! Time for me to head off to Diagon Alley to experience the newest part of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter! I'll be back with photos later tonight!

The Universal Orlando Media Week continued today with a sampling of items from three of CityWalk's newest dining venues, along with a look ahead at The Cowfish. The day concluded with a viewing of Blue Man Group, a show I hadn't seen since 2009, which had since been updated with new bits, new music and a very different finale. Nothing says welcome like three men on stilts! Eric and I were ready to party it up! Eric was ready to indulge in some "World Famous Hot Dogs." I know I'm not the only fan of Fat Tuesdays here... My advice? Go for the Rum Runner/Cat. 5 Hurricane mix! The VP of CityWalk came up to introduce some special guests... The owners of The Cowfish came up to express their excitement over sharing the concept of "Burgushi" with Orlando very soon! Steve Schussler, the man behind Rainforest Cafe, T-Rex and Aquarium, came up to speak about his latest concept, Hot Dog Hall of Fame. He also took the time to announce a new product that the quick service window will be selling when it opens: "Paint Your Own Weiner!" No, I'm not making this up. This is a real thing. The Cowfish had unique touch screens out for play testing that will be featured in the restaurant when it opens. The tables include interactive games, news updates and the ability to interact with the restaurant dining team if needed. The game available to experience today was a "Create a Fish" experience that would allow you to design your own sea creature and drop it into a virtual fish tank above when complete. Of course I would choose to make a dastardly shark with an iPhone. Because, well... Who wouldn't? Despite the fact that The Cowfish is not near completion upstairs, Vivo has opened downstairs for the public to enjoy. The inside is reminiscent of the same approach taken with the design of Antojitos. Unique bar spaces integrated with lots of theming around the booths, ceiling and floor. You can actually see the chef working on making fresh pasta along with preparing fresh cheeses. The mirror is such a brilliant design feature! Hi Elissa! These were bliss. But I'll get back to them momentarily. We each got a souvenir apron to take home! Vivo makes some incredible clams! I'll definitely be ordering these during my next visit! This gnocchi was heavenly! The Fiochetti with gorgonzola and pear, walnuts, brown butter and salt were INCREDIBLE! This is the start of a beautiful friendship... Those Fontina-stuffed Risotto Croquettes? Sheer bliss! I love the continuous theme of spaghetti strands flowing throughout the restaurant! Who here is ready for some hot dogs from the Hot Dog Hall of Fame? There will be nine initial hot dog types available but Steve Schussler expects that new menu items will be tested and added in the coming years. I just can't get over this! Looks fantastic! The Hot Dog Hall of Fame options will be very reasonably priced! Time to head into one of my favorite places in Orlando... It wouldn't be a visit to Antojitos without tequila! Esquites Asados on a spoon? YES PLEASE! This looks incredible even when raw... It tasted incredible once it was cooked! The BBQ Shrimp Tacos are among the restaurant's more unique menu items. Time for something near and dear to my heart... Can you guess? That's right! Universal treated us to a showing of Blue Man Group! I was thrilled to see the show and its new additions after over three years of not having seen it! Blue Man Group was an incredible cap off for a fantastic first day! With tomorrow's schedule filled to the brim we'll certainly have more updates for you in the coming hours!

So I'm here for the Universal Orlando Media/VIP Week going on to highlight The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Diagon Alley, along with the grand opening of Universal and Loew's newest hotel, the Cabana Bay Beach Resort. The event will be covering many aspects of the resort's recent (and possibly future) developments, but will definitely have a focus on The Wizarding World of Harry Potter's latest expansion, that will double the size of the Harry Potter presence at the resort, in addition to linking the two parks together via an immersive transportation/attraction experience. Along with getting to experience all of this, Theme Park Review was invited to stay at the Cabana Bay Beach Resort in order to experience firsthand all that the newest hotel property on-site has to offer! The lobby has a very retro feel to it and I love it! This is gorgeous! The Swizzle Lounge will likely be a stop for me later this week... Even the Universal Gift Shop got the retro treatment! Retro branded candies! My head's about to explode!!! So snazzy! That's right folks. You can get your Starbucks cravings satisfied without leaving the hotel. I just wish they had a Teavana to go with it for us non-coffee drinkers. The Starbucks pays tribute to Florida history with its unique mermaid murals, inspired by the original Weeki Wachee mermaids from back in the day... Dude! Galaxy Bowl is actually modeled after the bowling alley from the Big Lebowski, if you'd believe it. Come check it out! I'm a staircase fanatic... This one is quite nice. The Cabana Bay Beach Resort is also home to the world's first Jake LaLanne Physical Fitness Studio. A tribute to the man, the myth, the legend... You can even see him from back in his heyday while working out in the studio! Arcade fans will surely love the Game-O-Rama arcade's selection! The Bayliner Diner is a huge quick service dining venue open for lunch and dinner at the resort! They even have ICEE service here! Like an old-style drive in, there are movies on the lawn in the evenings at Cabana Bay Beach. So nifty! A sand play area for the family. Looking back towards the lobby building... There's a fire pit for cold nights and warm smores. Cabanas are available for rent near the Cabana Bay Beach Resort's main pool... Go figure. I love the inclusion of real sand surrounding the pool area! There's a water play area for the young'uns. What could this be? The pool's waterslide dumps into the pool beneath the faux diving board. Kudos for the attention to detail! Very retro. Very awesome! I'll definitely be visiting this during the week! Could you guess my reaction when I saw this? It was something like this. We were fortunate enough to be hosted in one of the resort's family suites. Here is the living room with the convertible sofa. Oooh! Goodies!!! Thank you Universal! Looking forward to all that is in store for the week! A look at the main bedroom. And looking back. Notice that the divider can be used to split off the living room from this one. Kudos for attention to detail and history! I can't wait to see what Universal has in store for us over the next few days!

At this time there is not enough news or discussion to warrant an official discussion thread for this park. While we appreciate your enthusiasm for the park, please let the moderators create official discussion threads for parks as they are needed. As soon as there is news to share for the park it can be posted to the main forum and then eventually compiled into a park discussion thread as needed.

All rides get generic names like Flight Deck and Drop Tower. In all seriousness, I was hoping for the Sustainable Playland plans to fall through. In the last bidding process Legoland and CAI Amusements (Zamperla) both pitched plans that focused on the rides and heritage of the park. Personally I think Legoland would be the most respectful to the park's heritage and bring in a more consistent crowd with its unique age appeal. That being said, CAI continues to prove with Coney Island that they know how to invest in a poorly operating space, make it new again and continue to invest beyond the initial start up. I think either would make great operators for the park, so it will be interesting to see if either decides to throw their hat back into the ring for consideration now that the city is taking RFPs again. -
It'll be interesting to see how it does as a permanent venue outside of the park, like La Nouba is at Downtown Disney at Walt Disney World. This is the first official confirmation of an entertainment space beyond the park berm along the lines of Downtown Disney. I'll be curious to see what else gets announced for this unarmed retail/dining/entertainment space in the future...

It looks like they did a fantastic job restoring the mountain facade on the ride! Thanks for sharing these great photos with us!
