  1. I never stated my views on politics, but rather that I feel it's important to listen to both sides. If I meet Ralph Nader or Al Gore I'll post it in here and I'm sure you'd be thrilled for me. Until then, you're right, we have gotten off topic and this isn't a politics thread so I'm tapping out of this one.
  2. I have to agree with Scaparri on this one. Hercules has been saying all of the reasons he decided to become a vegan without becoming condescending about it. If I have your argument right (and please correct me if I don't), if you eat meat then you automatically don't care about animals or the environment. Don't you think that's a little bit extreme? Maybe I like animals, but I just am not dedicated enough to the cause to live an alternative lifestyle. Whether you mean it to be or not, this is the type of thing that vegans say that make them come across as thinking they're more holy than non-vegans.
  3. ^haha, have you actually read what I have been trying to say in these posts or do you just like to point out typos? ^^...and yet you still haven't touched on anything in her books, which is what this whole thing started over. If "the book is stupid", then give a reason why, but you can't. You can dodge it all you want, but you still seem to be unable to back up your first statement. I really think you just don't get it because your argument shifts in every post you make. First you say "that book is stupid", then you just call her a redneck, then you post a famous interview where on a rare occasion she made a historical mistake. My argument is that you can learn a lot from seeing someone like that, her debate skills are excellent and she has some really good insight into conservative politics. Maybe you missed that I go see a lot of people who are relevant within the political world, whether they be liberal or republican, but unlike a lot of people I think it's worth truly trying to understand both sides. She is a shock jock, but if you get past that she is occasionally right on a lot of things. On that note, I wish I was stupid enough to make it through law school and be on the New York Times best seller list six times, but I guess she's just not as smart as 14 year old sfotkid who seems to know it all.... This is a respectful response from somebody who gives an argument and backs it up respectfully. This is a good post, whereas just saying "that book is stupid" or "she's a redneck" is a bad post. Do you see the difference?
  4. ^I don't I saw them live in the fall and it was a train wreck. They had tons of pyro and cool special effects, and that's pretty much what they rested on for their entire performance. If you had taken away all of the fancy tricks and just put them in a mid-sized venue it would be terrible. They pretty much used their big funds to distract the audience from the quality of the music they were playing. It LOOKS like fun, but it wasn't... This was taken during fall semester
  5. Fluorescent Adolescent- Arctic Monkeys
  6. I think this is one of the things that can sometimes bother people. A lot of vegans cite moral reasons for their choice to become a vegan. In some cases, this can kind of come across as condescending for non-vegans. When a vegan says that they are a vegan for moral reasons, that can imply that they're more moral than you. Whether that's the intent or not, I think a lot of vegans are perceived as thinking they're somehow better than non-vegans. I think Scaparri touched on that and made a good point with the comparison to the gay men stereotype. Obviously I'm not saying that this is the case here, but I think that's a big reason why Vegans get a lot of hate. As for me, I went on a date with a vegan girl once. Let me tell you, I could NOT handle eating tofu for the rest of my life, much less skipping out on cheese and chocolate. We ordered a substitute chocolate cake, and that just doesn't fly with me (haha, I know I sound like such a fatty). All joking aside though, I understand that meat production takes up an insane amount of resources in terms of land and water compared to vegatables. For the people who have the will power without the ego, more power to you because it is something that would drive me insane.
  7. That's called a typo, I'm sure you've never had one. I was pointing out his repeated flawed punctuation in multiple posts. You guys can take cheap shots all day, I don't really care.
  8. ^Again, no real points, just name calling and bad grammar. Dare you quote her? I don't care, I've read three of her books and I've seen her speak twice, I pretty much know what she stands for. In two posts you've offered absolutely no valid arguments, just name calling. ...and since when are lawyers from Connecticut labeled as rednecks? Also, since when is being a right-wing fundamentalist woman a bad thing? Just because you don't like what someone has to say doesn't mean you can't learn a bit from them. Anyways, this dispute is off topic. I met Ann Coulter last night, sfotkid thinks she's a big meany and disapproves. I can live with that...
  9. Making a statement like that without giving any reasons does nothing but make you look ignorant. Like I said, I'm a political junkie. I got the chance to meet and talk to one of the most controversial political observers of our time and I jumped at the chance. The woman has been on the New York Times best seller list with all six of her books, so there's obviously something to be taken from the experience of getting to meet someone who has been so successful. For the record, I've seen a lot more liberal politicians in person than conservative ones, including some big names like Barack Obama and John Edwards. I think it's important to try to see things from more than one angle, rather than just saying "well that's stupid". That may be just me though....
  10. Sorry to dig up an old topic, but... I JUST met Ann Coulter!!! I'm a bit of a political junky and I just got super nervous that I was going to say something stupid. She was speaking at Furman University and when I saw her afterwards at her signing I mentioned that this was the second time I had seen her speak, the first time being at The University of Florida in 2006. On both occassions she had a Q&A session, and we talked for a little bit about how the questions she was being asked at Furman were a lot more intelligent and pertinent to current politics than the questions she was asked at UF, since that area has more of a liberal bias and very few of her questions in Gainesville strayed from the "would you really send Timothy MvVeigh to the New York Times?" type of thing. She asked me if I went to Furman, and I said no and that I go to Clemson. She asked me what I was studying and I said global politics and business, then she signed my book and I thanked her and left. Don't hate.
  11. This is what destroys your argument. It may be very smooth for an ARROW. But since Arrows are rough.. saying that it's smooth for an Arrow doesn't mean a whole lot. There are smooth Arrows out there. i.e. Tennessee Tornado, Lochness Monster. Saying that Arrows are rough is a pretty big generalization.
  12. So I was in Atlanta last night and I saw Kate Nash at The Variety Playhouse in Little Five Points. The venue was pretty cool and retro, and the show was really good. I don't really go to many shows like this, but I had a great time and I was right up against the stage. It was definitly a different experience from when I saw Manchester Orchestra and Say Anything in Atlanta a couple weeks ago (to say the least), but it was really fun. The next show I'm going to is We the Kings in Columbia (SC) next week so hopefully I'll get some pictures there. Here's some pics of last night... Another picture. Fun night I was right up against the stage A picture from outside the venue while I was waiting for the doors to open (I was the fifth person inside). Kind of a random trip to Atlanta, but it was good times all around and it's good to know that not all pop music sucks nowadays
  13. Missed the Boat- Modest Mouse
  14. Well I guess when it comes down to it that guy wasn't even shot. The newer article says he was hit in the face with a rock. Head trauma can be serious, but in this case it sounds like he'll be fine. I don't think this should become a big issue with the park, something like this could happen anywhere. As for the Orlando metal detectors, I guess Wet n' Wild doesn't have them. I went this past summer and I honestly can't remember, but I wonder if they used them for this event. I remember when I went to Grad Bash at IOA/Universal we entered through the backstage area (very cool for a coaster dork) and we had to go through metal detectors. If I recall correctly I don't think Universal even allowed any bags to be brought into the event at all, because they were afraid of weapons and/or alcohol. Now that I think of it, that's the only time I specifically remember having to go through a metal detector at an Orlando park. I may be wrong since I went to Orlando tons of times when I was growing up in Orlando, but you'd think Orlando would be ahead of the curve in terms of security rather than behind.
  15. Ok, I found a more detailed story of the incident. Apparently the shooting happened in the parking lot but the fighting also took place inside the park. http://www.myfoxorlando.com/myfox/pages/Home/Detail?contentId=6295340&version=10&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=TSTY&pageId=1.1.1
  16. ^^I don't think it's Florida, I just think it's the nature of high school. I went to a lower income public school in Florida and this doesn't surprise me. When we went to Grad Bash we had to go through a lot of security and there were still fights, threats, and people trying to sneak alcohol/drugs/whatever. High school is just like that... As for the incident, when I first saw it on tv I think they said the fight started in the park and then the shooting happened in the parking lot. The last time I went to Wet n' Wild was last summer to check out Brainwash, and I honestly can't remember if they had metal detectors. I would imagine that they do since most parks have them these days, which would make the parking lot a likely place for this to happen.
  17. UPDATE: here's a more detailed article with some more information on what actually happened. http://www.myfoxorlando.com/myfox/pages/Home/Detail?contentId=6295340&version=10&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=TSTY&pageId=1.1.1
  18. Holy crap IOA looked terrible that day! I haven't seen Spiderman use its outside queue since opening year. Why do I have to live in Florida during the busy parts of the year?!?!?
  19. Movin' On- Deal's Gone Bad haha, it's just been one of those nights...
  20. No Dinosaur?!?!?! haha Awesome TR, it makes me miss living in Florida. I agree with you Animal Kingdom's high quality, but they just need more attractions to be able to fill up a day in the park. Dinoland just doesn't fit into the park at all, it's so tacky it just detracts from the rest of the Animal Kingdom experience.
  21. ...if you can stare at pictures of launch track or lift hills for hours
  22. That video was great! You got some sexy B&M footage so it's approved by me! I was worried you had abandoned this thread, your videos are really good for someone new to editing.
  23. She Doesn't Get It- The Format Still sad about their break up... I saw them last week in Atlanta with Manchester Orchestra. Awesome show.
  24. A ride has never made me feel sick, I've just never had any form of motion sickness. Drop towers make me nervous, but that's about it for me. I once rode Dueling Dragons eight times in a row without having to go back through the line and I felt fine the entire time, I think I finally got bored and went to find another ride.
  25. Four Winds- Bright Eyes
