Golden Ticket Awards 2012 Results

I had no idea that you could apply to vote. I was kind of under the impression that the voting was done predominately by people within the amusement industry (which kind of makes the results more understandable). It really isn't. It's mainly by enthusiasts. However, a lot of the voters are ACE members that think they are so cool that they know people in the industry. Actually, if you work at a park or work for a ride manufacturer you can't vote. However, there are some in the industry who do vote, and I guess I would consider myself to be one of them, but I certainly don't vote in a biased way. If I did, I think all of my votes would be for PA parks as the majority of customers I have are in PA. Though, I have to say it is a little ridiculous that DelGrosso's doesn't get any votes for best food when they clearly have amazing food that is actually made onsite, fresh. But I digress. I guess I can only reiterate, SIGN UP TO VOTE! I think it is a little important to have some kind of unity in the industry, and creating another awards, like some have suggested, would only hurt. Sign up to vote and let's make this something that everyone can enjoy. http://www.goldenticketawards.com/gta-faqs Tim Baldwin Golden Ticket Awards Coordinator Telephone: (817) 460-7220 E-mail: tbaldwin@amusementtoday.com Thanks for this post explaining a bit of the process. I still think it's an issue of people not taking it very seriously or at the very least just voting what they've always voted for because they haven't ridden anything else. I certainly don't have an issue with having the Golden Ticket Awards but there needs to be a more scientific process or at the very least a way to make sure the votes aren't skewed to one park/chain as they seem to be here. I'm looking on the site, not finding where one would sign-up to vote for next year. -
For the Season Pass early entry a few weeks ago they used the far-right gate (the one that actually used to be Season Pass Entry back in the day). So I'd imagine they'd just use that. As for SFHH early entry, who knows. As for SFHH, we went once this year and Venom Drop was the only slide on that tower that was open. I assumed it was for a lack of employees as well, oddly it was the busiest day we've seen at SFHH this year. As I said, a new slide complex to replace what is there would be great. Not only would it mean more slides/better slides, but if they arranged it correctly they would actually need less employees at the bottom of the slides. The ones they have now are very spread out. I'd prefer something to replace the Black Snake/Tiki towers before any kind of new development in the old Flashback area if I'm being honest. Or they could just remove those towers and put new speed slides where Flashback is. Wouldn't be centrally located but I don't think it'd really matter.

^ Something tells me it has something to do with the fact people think I305 is "too intense". SkyRush may have had the same issues. Just funny to think that if either was at CP they'd be in the top 5-10 easily. -

I personally find Indy to be the most overrated ride ever and as much as I LOVE the Knoebels Haunted House I still say it's BS. -

^ Not only that, but Transformers didn't even get on the list for best new ride. I rode it for the first time today and I absolutely loved it. WAY better than RSR. -

Every year this list proves what BS it is and how much the Cedar Point fanboys factor into this whole thing. A few things that stand out to me: TTD is 13 and KK is 38. It's the SAME FREAKING RIDE!!!! I305 number 12? Are you effing kidding me? Goliath (SFMM) higher than Skyrush! In what Universe? At least El Toro got the top spot. -
I also prefer running outside vs the treadmill. Could be because I work at home and running is many days the only time I will get out of the house. I haven't even looked at the "Goodies" from the DL 1/2 bag yet. LOL. The food at the finish was also a bit disappointing. I also didn't realize they don't change the medal every year. For the price they charge, they should.

TPR's 2012 China Trip!
Sir Clinksalot replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Looks like an epic trip so far. Glad nobody died on crazy spinning coaster or knock-off SLC. -
As much as I love HHN, if I only had to pick one (like this year) I'm going with KSF. To me, KSF is a more "well rounded" Haunt experience. As others have said, Street Talent is FAR better. More mazes and more shows. The Hanging > Bill and Teds (IMO) and the other shows like Ed Alonzo, etc are fantastic.

Went up to the park for a bit today. Didn't see any track on-site (either at the actual construction site or backstage). The Spider for Fright Fest is up, some other random FF decorations. Nothing visible from the Willoughby's or Bite II location. Could see them working backstage where Slaughterhouse is/was. Looks like Aftermath is coming back as well as Chupacabra and Cursed. Working on a maze in Log Jammer Queue as well. The entire area where Jokesters is is completely blocked off. Didn't see much of anything. So far only seeing maybe 6 mazes, I'm sure there are more though. There were some survey markers all along the FT area as well as going up and over the Superman entry area.

No, a lot of people on TPR live modestly and are frugal when it comes to frivilous things in life choosing to save money for travel. This. I hate when people make assumptions on what kind of $$ people make or how they choose to spend it. It's called not buying Blu-Rays/CD's every Tuesday, not buying/leasing a car that's out of your price range, not spending $100 on a pair of jeans/shoes, not eating out all the time, not going to the movies every week, etc. I used to spend WAY too much $$ on all those things, took a long time to break the habit but once I saw how much we saved it was staggering.
