  1. Work on the coaster is starting to go vertical. Construction on footers and a likely station platform has begun. Video: These can be clearly seen from the current Echo Hollow restrooms. There was a lot of chatter down there from the GP with some of the park employees about it as people have been noticing the stakes and asking about the new coaster. One denied it's construction completely while another said it would indeed be a steel coaster larger than Wildfire. We shall see...
  2. Honestly, I am highly skeptical on the spinning concept being for this immediate project. I am also not too sure how appealing this will be to their demographic as it has been rumored to be a launched Mack free spin WITH inversions. An extreme type spinner here could have major flop potential and a lot of reactions from random people I have chatted with and on various boards where I have read about this possibility have been pretty negative. And then there are issues with these often being low capacity which the park has done fairly well on avoiding with their coaster installations. Keep the spinning gimmick on the flat rides. Now while the Coaster being built by Mack is all but confirmed by the park I would love to seem them do one of their mega/hyper coasters.
  3. I was up there for a few hours on Thursday, didn't get as many pictures as I wanted since a thunderstorm decided to form right over the lake and sit over the park for 2 hours. Some of the clearing behind Echo Hollow seen from the Culinary School porch. Here is a bit of the clearing as seen from ThuNderaTion's queue. They didn't just clear out the trees and throw some retaining walls up and such, they also appear to be digging out much of that hillside now too. Likely for pathways and infrastructure. However I would'nt be surprised to see footers pop up here soon. New Signage, the blue part lights up with a neon blue halo effect: This one is still incomplete for some reason, it has been this way for awhile:
  4. This was one of the things that made me think that RMC could eventually expand into working on building or refurbishing the old style Mine Train coasters since they are still quite popular, are usually themed very well, and provide a nice stepping stone to the bigger and more extreme coasters for kids and families. Of course they could still crank it up a notch as they did to some of the classic wood coasters. They already have a few ex Arrow engineers and designers such as Alan in their ranks either directly or indirectly. And when you look at the way an RMC wooden coaster is built, particularly with the Iron Horse track system, it is essentially a bigger and more extreme version of the classic Mine Train coaster. Steel tracks on a wooden support structure. Video documentary with him can be found here: http://legacyofarrow.com/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Schilke
  5. Its been stated before that wheel seats are to be avoided if you are wanting that buttery smooth ride experience on an RMC coaster. I have not ridden Lightning Rod yet but it is apparent on Outlaw Run at SDC which also uses the topper track.
  6. With theme park staples such as the log flume and the miniature railroad, another staple attraction is the classic Mine Train Coaster. These coasters were one of the things that put the firm known as Arrow Dynamics on the map. (now known as S&S Sansei) Many parks still have them (Disney, SFOT, SDC, etc.) and it makes me wonder with RMC revolutionizing the industry with their refurbs of classic wooden coasters along with their all new custom designs, it seems logical that Mine Trains could be their next big thing. Honestly I would love to see some classic Mine Train coasters put back into the spotlight with the use of their modern technology and theming style. Perhaps using a miniaturized version of their Iron Horse track system. Discuss
  7. ^ This. And my statement about SDC was mostly lighthearted. I was merely poking fun in regards to the SDC thread at how the new coaster speculation had changed and evolved so drastically (and the debut timing) after months of hype towards a certain type which is now looking less likely. (which others had pointed out as well)
  8. From this time till the end of the season is the time the park really shines. I love it. The fall scenery matched with the decor in this heavily wooded park makes for a great atmosphere. Then when you add lights and such at Christmas it gets even better. Its been on my bucket list to attend when there is snow on the ground or while its actually snowing. (yes the park stays in limited operation when that happens)
  9. Indeed its unfortunate, at my home park (SDC) there was once so much hype and speculation for a huge B&M installation happening in 2017 at the end of last year and now fast forward nine months and its looking more like a Mack spinner for 2018 instead. It sucks having to wait another year. lol
  10. Zingo (Bells Amusement Park) Ozark Wildcat (Celebration City) <<< this one still stings, it was a fantastic GCI that was left to rot Buzzsaw Falls (Silver Dollar City)
  11. I seriously need to get over there. lol
  12. A very clever Photoshop job. The jpeg artifacts form a clean square around the text indicating its a cut "n" paste job. Larger image is here where you can see it more clearly http://themeparkreview.com/forum/files/thumb_lol_12.jpg
  13. I thought this looked legit too until I zoomed in on the image. There is noise/jpeg artifacts all around the RMC text. You can see a clear cutout where the noise inexplicably ends indicating a cut and paste job. Its all BS, I am afraid. Sorry folks.
  14. Still waiting on Silver Dollar City to make some kind of announcement in regards to the massive clearing going on in the NE section of the park. But as of right now its looking like Spring 2017 with a 2018 debut of whatever it is [the coaster] they are building.
  15. I wonder when Judge Roy Scream will be replaced or fully refurbed. It could use the RMC treatment or a rebuild by GCI. When I last rode it back in 2013 it was quite painful to ride.
  16. Love the photos and review! I have visited the park 7 times this season and 4 out of the 7 times I have been there Outlaw Run has been broke down the entire day. I was quite miffed the only time I made it for Moonlight Madness it was broke down once again. Dunno whats going on with it this year. Personally for me Wildfire is the best coaster there and fortunately I have only seen it broke down once. As for the construction clearing by ThuNderaTion, yes it is getting huge!
  17. I myself think there is gonna be a back to back coaster installation. Either in 2017-2018 then something afterward, before 2020. And I bet the concepts presented will be recycled/reused for whatever is not picked out already. And more I look at the clearing and think about it the more I think the spinner is not going there but in the area surrounding the Waterboggan Tower, at a later date. That area cleared and dug out by Echo Hollow is way too large for a teacup spinner. Unless they are actually gonna market it as the tallest and longest teacup spinning coaster. I still think a dive machine is due in the next 5 years and it would be perfect for the "Silver Mine" concept. And while this park has fewer coasters than its counterparts the park has been known for adding big attractions in spurts. 1999 Buzzsaw Falls 2001 Wildfire 2004 Powderkeg And lastly lets go back to this statement that was made a while back. And I am in no way pretending I am in the know since it is my home park but I am just going by what seems logical from what has already been observed.
  18. The sky is on fire with Wildfire. (2016 Moonlight Madness at Silver Dollar City)
  19. Oh and for what its worth here is the general idea of how much land has currently been cleared. (marked in red) The isolated area is where the hillside was slightly dug out next to ThuNderaTion for the construction trailer.
  20. As I mentioned from a few posts back. I would rather go for a B&M inverted or dive coaster, especially for concept #2 but meh it is what it is. But I think whatever it is that they do wind up going with, it will be BIG nonetheless.
  21. Construction Update regarding the likely 2017/2018 coaster installation: I went to the City today. Rode ThuNderaTion 3 times to scope out the construction area. In several areas there is now green spray paint markings in and around the Coaster/Column stakes. Nearly the entire hillside opposite to the coaster at the bottom loop around is scalped and totally cleared of trees and vegetation, it can be really off putting the first time you see it when you are used to "flying thru the woods" in that section. The hillside leading up the the helix just as you reach the lift hill is also scalped. Several 10-20 foot retaining walls have also been constructed with several more construction marker stakes littering all along the hillsides. It is indeed a substantial amount of real estate that they have cleared for this project.
