Silver Dollar City (SDC) Discussion Thread
sdcfan88 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Anyways, even though this is a bit redundant, here was my footage from the announcement ceremony: [youtu_be] [/youtu_be]For those concerned about the spinning, I was one of the most vocal ones about being against the concept, but I am giving it a chance and I feel optimistic that they will fine tune this ride before, during, and after it opens for the best rider experience. If you fast forward 21 minutes into my video Brad is speaking to Dennis, one of the Mack Rides engineers behind this ride's development. During this conversation Brad was talking about how the test car that was used on Blue Fire at Europa Park was actually too intense for him and said that the only way this could work at SDC is for them to engineer a system to help keep the spinning under control with a braking system. It is essentially described as a magnetic clutch that will interact with a steel fin mounted on the gondola if the spinning attempts to get too violent. This will slow the rotation thus providing a controlled spin. It was definitely a topic of concern for people if we were to expect the same level of spinning as seen in the simulation, however it was also mentioned when I overheard a conversation that the spinning animations are likely exaggerated. You may simply experience a slower turning effect where you may turn and swoop into an inversion sideways instead of feeling like your are being tossed like your laundry in a washing machine. Also I know many were excited for this as I certainly was, but here is the exclusive construction site tour I got of the coaster under construction: They were actively hanging several pieces of track and supports for the vertical loop while I was down in the valley. It was pretty neat to actually stand next to and touch the actual track and supports. haha -

I would count both of Thunderation's tunnels as theming. They also have some random props down there, right? I haven't raised a stink yet, but my main problem with the presentation of the ride (in the video at least) is the placement of the launches. I think they look somewhat awkward running through the rest of Time Traveler's layout. It would be nice to see some sort of theming thrown in there, especially with the ride coming to a complete stop, but it would've looked even better with the launches running under the rest of the layout like on Taron. I will say that is the main gripe I had besides this being yet another relatively short coaster. (its neighbor ThuNderaTion is actually longer and taller as this one will be the 2nd shortest coaster in the park save for the kiddie coaster and FITH) Anyways what bugged me was the missed opportunity to turn at least one of the launches into a sort of show and effects building (which was previously assumed to be where that small structure embedded into the hill would have been) or at least make a simple enclosed tunnel for the "Time Travel" effect. Doing something as simple as a tunnel with multicolor LED lighting as seen near the end of NTG at SFOT would have sufficed or even some fog like what is seen and used on many Dive Coaster tunnels. -

I know this post will probably get buried with all the discussion on the new ride, but for those interested here are my photo highlights from today. Got photos and video of the ceremony and as already mentioned, media guests also got to tour the station AND the coaster itself with a construction crew on site actively hanging track. It was really awesome of SDC's staff to let us tour the site and chat with them about this new addition! A shout out to Peter, Jack, Brad, Lisa and everyone else at the park! Thank you for your hospitality! FULL ALBUM FROM TODAY IS HERE -

I am still hoping for some sly BTTF Part III references in the ride theming. They already have been with the Jules Verne teasers since the author was an idol of Doc. Brown. lol The first drop illustrated: -

Thats what bothers me about the spinning concept too, while the spinning cars in the test video are two across they look almost as wide as the Big Dipper Trains and even wider if they are turned in any way. But again the current setup could indeed be a temporary safety measure for the announcement as they are apparently doing a tour of the site and the station building for the media. I will be one of the people on site for this. -

A recap on the top three possibilities from what we know: #1 Helix-esque coaster with possibly the most inversions or fastest speed. A first being the steepest vertical drop on a Mack Mega Launch Coaster. Expect incredible G-forces and/or airtime. #2 As mentioned before a while back, this could still possibly be the first true Mack Dive Coaster using their new Big Dipper cars. While that alone being a first, it may also include the fact that it would be the longest Dive Coaster ever built and the first Dive Coaster with launch elements. (I do not count Lost Gravity as one as it is more of a Eurofighter in terms of its layout.) #3 The widely rumored Extreme Spinning Coaster. Same layout as the Mega Launch Coaster but with a multi-car coaster train that either has all cars spinning or some spinning. Several launch elements/sections will be included along with possible elements/sections that will do a controlled rotation thru segments of the ride like Cobras Curse. Firsts will of course be the first spinning coaster with a vertical drop and the first with inversions. (If you do not count Blue Fire with the spinning car on the rear) -

I absolutely love Wildfire's station. It's beautiful! I honestly don't mind waiting in longer lines on wildfire because I'm bound to find a new interesting detail every time. The theming is just so detailed! Yeah I have been tempted to walk behind there to the overflow queue to look at more of the theming. I think I have been thru there only once or twice in the many years it has been at the park. Its unfortunate in the fact that Wildfire has the shortest coaster line in the park so most never get to appreciate the station theming. -

Guys, this coaster is really getting insane in a hurry! I am definately getting Helix/Taron vibes from the layout. Photos courtesy of sanddunerider on SDCFans: -

Google is your friend. I haven't seen the layout but I have seen the logo with the ride name over on another forum. However its being said both are fake. Probably wouldn't be a good idea to further share it. There was a lot of backlash when Outlaw Run got leaked. -

Its rumored to be a multi-launch. There is already a probable launch being constructed where that stretch of straight track is being placed next to the initial loop. Think along the likes of Helix or Maverick. That inversion looks very much like this one. (Helix btw) -

LOL This coaster just keeps getting better and better. Coaster enthusiasts be like: And its nice to finally see where that twisty thick spined track I posted up a while back went to. I knew it had to be for inversions and such. [youtu_be] [/youtu_be] -

Here are my photos shot with my DSLR from yesterday. These images speak for themselves. This is a game changer whatever this Frankencoaster is << Oh and the queue line progress which in itself is crazy massive. And as a bonus, here is a video to go with this: -

Encountered a truck as I was leaving bringing more track and supports onsite. You can see more of the layout here. -

It's a 90 degree drop that goes down 70-100 feet and ends below the hill into a dugout canal and back into a half loop. There is a 2nd half loop with a large section of straight track erected crossing by the bottom of the drop. This track leads to the small rectangular building. Inversions and launches are pretty much confirmed now. I am starting to agree with others that this could be a hybrid of the Time Travel theme with flying mixed in. Maybe we will see flying time trains like BTTF. Lol -

Thinking now maybe this is a flying themed coaster. SDC posted yet another teaser hinting towards flight. -

Just found this posted on Facebook. That has to be a 90 degree drop! A first of its kind Mack dive coaster? -

A VERY interesting development has been unveiled on SDC's Facebook and Instagram page, between the "Gravity Redefined" teaser and this latest one quoting Jules Verne, I am really intrigued as it seems with the wing art and the Jules Verne quote, this seems to be something along the lines of Robur the Conqueror meets H.G. Wells' Time Machine for the name/theme. There was indeed a lesser talked about name called "Mountain Wings". Flying time machine maybe? http://io9.gizmodo.com/that-time-jules-verne-caused-a-ufo-scare-453662253 It would be kinda funny if they went with something inspired by this if they can make it unique enough so it avoids a legal issue with Universal: http://backtothefuture.wikia.com/wiki/Jules_Verne_Train -

In that extended video with the slo-mo edit you can see the silver floor paneling shift as the arm swings by. I think we got our likely culprit. The gondola struck it as the arm swung by. -

The most probable theory remains that its gonna be a hybrid of Helix/Blue Fire with spinning cars on all or part of the trains. However the wording in the article could suggest something even more bizarre that we haven't even thought of. -The park calls it the biggest attraction EVER. It says will by more than double in size than any other attraction. -Silver Dollar City promises a colossal, world-footprint attraction. This is something that has never been done before at any theme park. -The attraction is designed for the mountainous terrain of the Ozarks. -It promises several "FIRST and ONLY" attributes in the world. -

In regards to Project 2018 I'm just gonna leave this here: http://www.ky3.com/content/news/Silver-Dollar-City-reveals-a-few-details-about-new-attraction-435913793.html Again this keeps getting emphasized: Wildfire is their biggest and most expensive coaster overall. I am very anxious to see how project 2018 will top it, I keep going back to Helix just due to the manufacturer and its layout being similar as the closest thing to compare this to. -
