Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
Johnlloyd replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Maybe they could put another Top Spin ride in there but, of a smaller scale. Or a nice dark ride or a coaster would fit in there quite nicely. It's hard to say what they'll do with the building. All I know is that is was a slight eyesore when I had visited the park in July of 2014. But, the rest of the park was beautiful! -

I would suggest visiting Dorney Park as it's not too far away from where you'll be staying. It's a nice park with a great collection of coasters. I had visited it for the first time last June and it was definitely worth the two day visit. I had a great time despite what many say about the park! -

There are many flat rides I am not able to ride. This would be one of them lol! Well, that Huss Magic is operated at crazy midway speeds! From what I've experienced so far, no Cedar Fair park operates rides like that! -

He Knows All... What? A Dippin' Dots guy at what appears to be Kings Island? (Correct me if I'm wrong. But, I do know that's not at Canada's Wonderland!) -

Worst Coaster Layout
Johnlloyd replied to SingleRiderCam's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You are not alone friend, although I never rode DF I am a big fan of Arrow coasters. I view them as living pieces of coaster history. The less Arrow coasters there are, the more I appreciate them. It also doesn't hurt that many of the truly terrible ones have been removed and we're left with a pretty decent collection of rides. Every Arrow Suspended is a great coaster, I don't have an issue with the mine trains and never have, other than Desperado the larger non loopers are all good rides (Gemeni and Magnum, I can't speak for Excaliber but it's probably not long for this world) and the looper collection we have left is mostly decent. There are exceptions like Dragon Fire at Canada's Wonderland, Vortex, Ninja and Anaconda but the smaller loopers are generally decent and the best of the larger Arrow Loopers are still running (Loch Ness Monster, Tennessee Tornado and Viper). So I think it's a combination of the nostalgia factor and the truly terrible rides being slowly weeded out while the good ones usually stick around (except BBW unfortunately). I didn't mention X2 but people generally enjoy that ride too (though I think it's a huge piece of crap). Arrow's coasters are just amazing! I appreciate and greatly enjoy them for what they are! I've greatly enjoyed all the ones that I've been on! It's a shame that they had gone defunct but luckily we're left with a pretty nice collection as Coasterbill has eluded to! -
Worst Coaster Layout
Johnlloyd replied to SingleRiderCam's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think that the Zamperla Volare has one of the worst layouts for a flying coaster! They could have done so much more instead of having multiple turns and only two heartline rolls (which are the only good thing about the coaster!). But, they could have designed it much better to possibly include a loop which would be quite amazing. Maybe if Zamperla were to redevelop their Volare coaster, they could add a loop and have variant track layouts which are quite unique and not so cloned and repetitive! -
Best Coaster Layout
Johnlloyd replied to DarienLaker's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think Talon at Dorney Park has an amazing track layout for an inverted coaster. I just like it how the coaster is quite compact with four inversions and also how close you get to the ground on the helix. I also enjoyed the zero-g roll right after the loop just after going over the station. Talon just has an amazing layout that is kind of difficult to describe! What more is there to say? -

Yes, quite a few years ago. But, what Cedar Fair is doing, they announced back in August that they set out a group of ride scavengers to seek vintage rides throughout Europe to bring back to their parks. So, this is a used Huss Troika and not a new one. -

Would you want it that close to SteelHawk though? Also, last time I drove past the park -- earlier last month -- it (Thunderhawk) was still standing. Makes me think it will be back this season. (SURPRISE!) Well, interestingly enough, Thunderhawk is no longer listed on Worlds of Fun's website. Here's the list of thrill rides and coasters. Also, Dorney Park had removed their Top Spin, Hang Time this time last year. I was slightly disappointed by that because I was looking forward to riding my first Huss Top Spin during my first visit to Dorney Park last June. It's a shame to see these Top Spins disappear but, they have quite a few maintenance issues. -
