Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
mordecai-75 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Sure, yet another ride that has to wait for parts from Europe, right? In all seriousness, where would Knoebels put it? I could only see them installing it in place of Wipeout, there just aren't many spots for big ride pads that I know of that wouldn't require a bunch of trees to be ripped out of the ground. I've only been to the park once, but i think they could rearrange the Twister plaza a bit and fit it there. It also seemed to me like the area near Skloosh could hold a large flat with a little tweeking of the mobile rides. Just a wishful thought as i rode Flying Falcon and went to Knoebels in the same trip. I plan to visit both parks again at some point, and just seems that Knoebels would be a lovely home for Flying Falcon if Hershey chooses not to relocate it. Just an opinion. -

^^^ Apparently the Christ of Dollywood has spoken! If you go to Dollywood, you will be helped in by the ride op's on everything except Lightning Rod (unless this policy has changed since Sunday, Aug 14 2016). And if the pak has changed their policy in the past day shame on them for taking a step in the wrong direction. Helping people out is what a family based environment is supposed to embrace. Just listen to what Dolly preaches herself. -

The op's will assist you in locking your restraints on all other coasters and Barnstormer, LR is the only exception. My ride buddy is of a larger size, he doesn't fit on Mystery Mine, but get's squeezed in on the others by the op's. I do it for him on LR, the whole reason i was pondering why they don't in the first place. -

For the heck of it, i've been contemplating the reasons that Dollywood op's are basically banned from touching the restraints on LR. The only logical theory i can come up with is the the two inner metal posts of the lap bars leave pretty much zero space between them. That makes for a very easy area (if somebody were to have their hand in the wrong place) where a potential serious injury could occur. Broken fingers, a whole hand, smaller kids even an arm. It's a crushing hazard, similar to the spot on the head rests of alot of Intamin's with the arrows pointing "DO NOT PLACE HANDS HERE". It could be Dollywood's way of having less liability in the event of such an accident. I've only been able to get on LR twice, i'll have to pay more attention to the instruction signs posted on the seat backs next time i ride. Anyway, seems like a plausible guess to me. Anyone who has been on a RMC train should get what i'm saying. And a question, do the op's push down the bars on Outlaw Run? Just curious being sister parks and all, i have unfortunately not had the pleasure of visiting SDC yet. -

Underrated Parks
mordecai-75 replied to What Now's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This park! The Boat Chute alone is worth visiting Lake Winnie to ride at least once before you die, (the several types of common phobia's this ride triggers ensures that most people will feel like they are gonna die while on it), it is terrifying and wonderful at the same time. You have a ball's out ARM drop tower, sweet PTC old school woodie, a wild mouse that you should probably dress out in full football padding before riding, sketchy a$$ Wacky Worm, tons of great old school flats (a few quite rare), pretty good food, fantastic merchandise, extremely friendly staff, and AWESOME clown trash bins. I love this little park, and feel it should have it's own discussion thread. (adding myself to the movement of other poster's that have been calling for this recently). The park does deserve one, and it could help them get more attendance. -

If you visit Mt. Olympus you can take home a piece of any of thier wood coasters pretty much by just grabbing a reachable part of them and putting a chunk in your pocket. -

I was in the night que as well, maybe had 2 or 3 dispatches before getting on, and then the breakdown. I was ok because i had ridden earlier, was hyped about a night ride though. The only thing that kinda made me mad was the false sense of hope when they said they were gonna send a test run and we'd be good to go, then just nope everyone clear the que. Oh well, during the christmas season night rides start at like 5 o'clock. Hopefully the ride is more stable by then. -

This is just a crazy thought, but notice how it stops before entering the shed. Maybe it's setting up for a launch of like 10mph or so directly into the station brakes. I still think by the time it opens it would be the world's first launching wooden coaster that operates. -

Try the pimento cheese appetiser at Backstage. I personally consider it's deliciousness to be on the cinnamon bread level. -

They can pretty much put them anywhere they choose, as this park has lot's of space in the majority of it's areas. This park also has quite alot of vacant land on the front which is nothing but an open flat field as you drive to the ticket booths. My guess is that they will spice up Thrill Zone with some of them, as the only things over there with Fury (which is enough to call it Thrill Zone) are Hurler and the drop tower. There's alot of blank canvas to work with in that part of the park. Some of the new flats will be right at home there. IMO -

I was actually praising the restraints of Impulse, thought they were very comfortable. I thought to myself how great it would be if Mystery Mine had some of those. I've not ridden DDD, so i don't have the Gerstlauer version to compare with. -

Finally, after several heartbreaking attempts, i got my first ride on Lightning Rod! It was worth every bit of pain, misery, sorrow, and frustration that came with getting the ride in. I waited in line yesterday for a couple of hours, through a few bouts of downtime ( one of them pretty extended ) only to lead to alot of folks giving up hope and leaving the queue ( as i have done before ). This time there would be no getting out of line for me, as i was on a mission to ride that M F'er come hell or high water, even i had to stay in that line all day. As us potential riders had just went through the extended bit of downtime, it was extremely upsetting to see it go back down after only three launches. This gave most of people in front of me the whole f+@k it feeling and they just poured out of the station. I watched as this was all taking place and said to myself " not me, not this time " and stood firmly with eagerness in my eyes, as the the result of everyone clearing out put me at the top of the final staircase. It was the first time i had witnessed the loading station with my own eyes, it was beautiful. Now the frustration set in hardcore, i had never made this far before, i was just waiting for one of the op's to say that the ride was going to be down for the rest of the day and evreyone to please exit the station. That didn't happen, the ride was back up in less than 15min ( so all those people that were so close completely screwed themselves, which like i said, i've left before. Patience is truly a virtue! ) I got on the third train after the re-open, i asked the row assigning lady really nicely if i could go to row 12, and she said "you go right on ahead honey", and there it was. I stood at the back row gate watching as the one train that was running pulled in with everyone aboard cheering enthusiastically, the gate opened, i sat down, strapped myself in nice and loose, and rode one the the best coasters i have ever ridden. This ride lives up to the hype people. It's just a shame you gotta go through like an epic fairy tale type of journey just to get on it. I can't wait until it's running like a boss and i get to have my way with it on the slow days like the other rides. -

Just watch your back at night in Harrisburg. The crime rate is awful and we have seen a ton of nighttime muggings lately. oh dear! We stayed in Harrisburg when we went in early June. Whenever we we go back, we'll stay somewhere else! If that tells you anything. And some useful knowledge, you can't buy beer in gas stations or grocery stores up there. It was one the strangest alcohol policies i've seen in the great United States. Just a tip off i wish i knew about before visiting. -

That boat chute is by far the most terrifying ride i have ever been on in my life! In a way it sorta doubles as a haunted tunnel ride. I think it might even be scarier if it had lights, there's no telling what sort of critters are lurking around in that thing. I would probably have to be drunk to ride it again. The park itself is excellent in my opinion, and should definitely keep it just the way it is.
