  1. Phantasialand next week! TARON
  2. The "bump" at the brake run looks way more subtle from this angle. And that's a good thing! Thanks for the update!
  3. From the WoF's Facebook page: EDIT: ^just beat me to that
  4. Great to see they keep expanding the park. Looking forward to the construction of the log flume, and to the 'new major roller coaster' in 2019. If the park keeps investing like this, it's definitely worth a visit in the near future!
  5. 7/10 Fluch von Novgorod @ Hansa Park
  6. I honestly didn't think Helix was much better than some of the rides we've seen in the USA lately. Seriously, just about every other Intamin or RMC coaster I've ridden is WAAAAY better than Helix. I'm not exactly sure why Helix gets the over-hype that it does. The launches were weak and every inversion felt the same to me. Yes it was a "fun" ride, but so is Gatekeeper, for example. But neither ride blew me away and made me go "HOLYFUCKINGSHIT THAT WAS ONE OF THE BEST RIDES I'VE ***EVER*** ***EVER*** been on...." like I get when I ride things like: Maverick, Kawasemi, Wildfire, Kumba, Montu, Medusa, Texas Giant, Outlaw Run, iSpeed, Expedition GeForce, Goliath, Skyrush, Intimidator 305, Wicked Cyclone, El Toro, Balder etc, etc, etc.... Unfortunately, I have not had the chance to ride as many coasters that are 'totally insane', yet. But I have ridden rides like Expedition GeForce, Balder and Goliath. And while these coasters are by far better rides than Helix, I like Helix more.. That's because I like a "better than average" coaster that has great atmosphere and a rockin' soundtrack more than I like an "OMFG crazy insane" coaster with no theming or atmosphere at all. Everybody has their own likes and dislikes, and that's absolutely fine! Because that's what makes it all so interesting. I would totally disagree. I think the ride does a lot of things, yes, but it doesn't do any one of those things REALLY WELL. It has a lot of parts, but none of those parts are impressive, IMO. I have to agree with you. It does a lot of things, but not all amazingly well. I like variety in coasters (once again, this is my personal opinion). I'd rather have a coaster that does a bit of everything and does that better than average; airtime, inversions, sharp turns, etc.. (like Helix), than a coaster that only has airtime after airtime, after airtime, etc.. (like Balder). Although, the airtime on Balder is waaaay better than Helix's airtime, Helix is far more 'complete', IMO. I hope that does make any sense. To say it with your analogy; I prefer a meal with lots of 'better than average' food and am completely full afterwards, over a meal with only one item that is 'the best ever' and afterwards you are still hungry.
  7. To be honest, this is how I felt about Helix in general. Don't get me wrong, it's a *GREAT* ride, and I'm not sure if it was possibly over-hyped by other people or it's just not really "my thing" but after riding some REALLY intense looping coasters like Kumba, Maverick, iSpeed, etc or launched coasters with AMAZINGLY FORCEFUL launches like Dodonpa, Formula Rossa, and Top Thrill Dragster, that I just felt a *little* underwhelmed by Helix. It could also be that Balder is in the same park, and I'm more of an airtime person than I am an "inversion" person, and to me most of the inversions on Helix felt very similar and not much variety. It's saving grace was the moments of airtime the ride had, but it still didn't compare to Balder across the park. I think Helix is a fantastic, wonderful ride... but it just didn't "thrill" me as much as I was expecting it to. I would say that it was indeed a bit overhyped, IMO. But it was still a fantastic ride. Not because of the intensity of the launches, but because of the complete package this ride has. It is probably the most "complete" coaster that I've ridden, if that makes any sense. I mean, this coaster has everything that a ride needs; there are some very intense parts (the Norwegian Loop for example), the moments of airtime that you get are more than great, a fantastic atmosphere in the queue (which is even better at night), some fantastic inversions and other unique elements. And that it hugs the terrain is only a bonus. Would some more variety in the inversions and more powerful launches make this ride better? Of course it would, no doubt about it! But this ride doesn't need that to be fantastic, it already is. Helix is just totally fun, from the start to the very end. And that's what it is all about, I guess.
  8. It is a lovely park! There's such a great atmosphere, with all the shops and the nice restaurants. And, of course, Helix! It's worth the visit for that ride alone.
  9. Yes, I was pleasantly surprised about how beautiful this park is. & Exactly, the operations are fantastic in Liseberg! One of the best I've seen. Yeah, more powerful launches would have made this coaster even better. But as you say, it's still an awesome ride!
  10. Yes, Gasten Hotel was excellent! I really enjoyed it! Thank you! And yes, Helix is just so photogenic. I hope you will be able to visit Sweden soon. Liseberg is a wonderful park, with a great selection of rides! Thanks!
  11. Hello everyone! From August 9th to 10th 2016, I went for my first ever time to Sweden to visit the wonderful Liseberg. I was most excited about finally getting to ride Helix and Balder. After riding Blue Fire at Europa-Park earlier this year, I was even more excited for Helix. I was a bit worried about the crowds, because I heard from a lot of people that it can get very busy at this park. But thankfully, a bit of early morning rain kept the big crowds away, resulting in relative low waiting times. The longest we waited was about 30 minutes for Mechanica. Balder and Helix were around 25 minutes all day. All the other rides were pretty much walk-on. It could not have been better! But enough talking now, let's check out the photos! Welcome to Liseberg! You wouldn't say that this park is located in the middle of a city. My first impressions of the park were great! What a lovely park. We headed straight to the biggest ride in Liseberg. No, not Atmosfear.. Unlike most coasters, you have a little pre-launch section on Helix. >> Bonus points! Right out of the station, you dive into this funky inversion. Great hangtime! The only negative point I can say about Helix, is that the launches weren't very forceful. They were fun, but there wasn't that "insane" feeling like you get on some other launch coasters. Still fun, though! My first ride was in the back. And ow man, there is some great ejector airtime! I wasn't expecting that. Hands up if you love Helix! Last inversion of the ride. Not as crazy as the hangtime you get on Blue Fire's In-Line Twist, but still pretty good. Aaaaaand into the brakes. Look at those trains! B-E-A-UTIFUL! After riding Helix for a total of 11 times in two days, with numerous night rides, I can now officialy say that this is my third favourite coaster. The ride itself is fantastic; great inversions, butter smooth, good forces. And it is not just the ride, but the whole experience that you get. It all starts when you enter the queue. There is such a good atmosphere, and the music really gets you excited! I absolutely loved it! The Liseberg Wheel. Great views from up there! Next up was the park's Drop Tower, named AtmosFear. It was high, it was fast, but that's pretty much it. The drop wasn't very forceful. You know what they say.. What goes up, must come down. A Universal fountain with some Swedish words before it. I don't understand, but I htink it's about a big panda or so. Next ride was Lisebergbanan. This was a very fun coaster. Not the smoothest, but a very good family ride! I really enjoyed it. Going up the lift hill. Also, there was some airtime here and there. Helix photobombing (not the only time you will se this). Lisebergbanan through the trees. It is a fun coaster! Anyone for a ride on the Bumper Cars? Helix is just everywhere you look. Really, this ride is so big. JukeBox is themed after a.. Well uhm, JukeBox. Liseberg is a lot more beautiful than I expected it to be. Next up, Kanilendet?? Keninland?? Kanindet? Okay, let's just call it the kids area. You can get some good bumps here.. What a lovely area! The next ride was Rabalder. (Again, Helix photobomb) It was fun, nothing special. Some nice theming, though. Credit whoring? Sure, why not. The Moulin Orange, the Swedish kids version of the Moulin Rouge in Paris. I guess... Some more photos from Helix for you guys. The Norwegian Loop was the most intense part of the ride. The color scheme reminded me a bit of Kärnan... Underneath shot for you. Look at that! No words.. Night rides in the front will change your life! Believe me. Some great AtmosFear with Helix. (no pun intended) Inverting over the pathway. Love the lighting! Who doesn't like some nice curves? That's bigger than I thought.. (No 'that's what she said'-jokes here) Some random people enjoying their ride on The Next Level. LOVE! Next up was Kanonen, the Intamin Accelerator coaster of the park. The launch was great, more powerful than I thought. Not as intense as Desert Race's launch, but still pretty good. Loooop the looop. Kanonen was okay. Nothing mind blowing. Kanonen through the trees. Shooting over the top hat. Helix, Helix, Helix! Beautiful bridges, only at Liseberg. Some Swedish houses. My private boat was waiting for me. Hotel Gasten was amazing! I really loved it! Really worth the additional charge. The next ride was Kållerado, the Rapids of the park. It was a fun ride, with some nice theming. And I didn't get that wet. Just another flat ride thingy. Now, it's finally time for Balder! Ow, I mean Bollder??? Aaaah, this looks more like it! Crazy insane airtime all over the place! In the queue, there were some pictures of the "milestone" coasters. Balder is awesome! Still wondering why not more parks added Intamin Woodies.. What can I say about this beloved Intamin woodie? Well, I loved it too! It was an amazing ride with some of the craziest airtime I've experienced. The first drop in the back was amazing as well. It sits at 10th place in my top 10 coasters, but that's only because there wasn't any theming. And I love the full experience. But the coaster itself is absolutely amazing! Burger King anyone?? Wave Swinger doing its thing. Next up was Mechanica. Fantastic flat ride, with some good theming! FlumeRide is a nice and classic log flume. Double station for maximum capacity. Lift hill shot for the lift hill shots enthusiasts out there. I actually got pretty soaked, because there is a wall next to the splash as you can see in the picture. Just another ride. The newest addition of the park: AeroSpin! Unfortunately, it was very windy that day, so I didn't manage to get a lot of spins.. If I remember correctly, the record for the most spins ever on AeroSpin was 70! After all, I think AeroSpin is a great addition for this park. They also added this Venetian Carousel this year. One last photo from the awesome Helix to end our day! Thanks for reading, I hope you guys enjoyed it!
