Rocky Mountain Construction 2017?
DoubleDown replied to kickflipbacktail's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That would be a seriously stupid move by Cedar Point, considering they could create the fastest, longest, most bad assed hybrid in the world. Also, is there anyway you can get rid of your Tapatalk signature. Super annoying. -

That looks photoshopped. -
Just the way it looks having so much weight on 1 rail when the track is sideways seems like it would take a signifigant toll on the ride wheels and trains. Also with a pivot point in the center of the train allowing the cars to freely swing, there'd really be no reason to make the track invert or stay sideways as it would seem to have a negligible effect on the rotation of the cars. But who knows! These photos have me intrigued! However I think if this was for Disney Star Wars Land, it'd be a little more hidden, and we would have seen it years ago as opposed to now. I imagine any attraction going into Star Wars land has already been decided and is in fabrication/design. Not testing.

The only reason I'm not happy about this addition is because I know how this park works and how quickly things deteriorate or don't come to fruition on high attention rides that get installed. I mean if the park can't even maintain audio on Apocalypse or flames on X2...maybe they should consider taking care of and fixing the things they already have including other areas that need attention (bathrooms, other themed lands in the park) instead of ignoring and letting those things continue to deteriorate while building new. They could have skipped a year attraction wise. I am not buying a Season Pass for 2017. Well if it's anything like the last 2 "land additions/remodels" I'd expect A LOT of concrete and very little shade. This means very little in terms of how it will effect the lines elsewhere in the park, it may just be that it has terrible capacity. Now if you have a 32 passenger B&M running 3 trains and having the longest line in the park, then I could see what you mean...

Is early entry really that reliable to get on 3 rides before the park opens? When I used it back in May by staying at Breakers, we got into the park an hour early and headed to Maverick. Lo and behold, closed. Then we headed to Valravn, closed. Millenium Force, closed. We ended up standing in line for an hour and then they finally opened the ride. After we got off the park was open and we didn't really get to take advantage of it. I'm not saying I'm not glad we got on MF first, I'm just wondering if that's typically how it goes or if I just got unlucky? -
I agree the expansion looks nice. I always thought Pacific Spin was kinda lame, I think it's good they'll have something new in it's place. My only complaint is I wish they had one of those straight down drops to change it up a little, like the one at Hurricane Harbor that's against the path when you're walking from the parking lot. The one on the very right in this photo.

^Sorry bud, I wouldn't count on it. I have this terrible feeling we're going to be getting one of those stupid box rides...UGHHHHHH OH DEAR PLEASE GAWD NO! Yeah I guess it makes sense to do a general maintenance now during the last 2 weeks of the Summer Schedule instead of from November through April when they're only open 2-3 days a week This fuggin' park mang. From what I remember X2 was coated with a very expensive military grade paint, which is why it still looks pretty good considering how long ago that paint job was. I believe it was something similar to this: http://www.texcote.com/commercial.php I did notice Superman was starting to fade a bit on my last trip, which is too bad I really like the paint on that ride. As for Tatsu it just looks horrible. I'm guessing it won't be painted for atleast another season or 2 because they will probably have to close Revolution to repaint it. It's just so ridiculously high up they're probably going to have to use a crane to get to some of the areas. Kinda funny when you install something like this you don't really think long term like "well what about 10 years down the road when we have to repaint it?"

After seeing a ride like Helix, I don't get it. Do American parks PURPOSELY tell Intamin and other manufacturers not to make a great rides like this? Why do we get all the watered down B&M crap and these guys are getting 4500 feet of pure adrenaline rush? -
Wow. Glad to see the resort is going to be undergoing some major transportation changes to deal with crowds. I was super impressed with the changes they made on the 5 freeway regarding on and off ramps to the park when they put California Adventure and Downtown Disney together. They really revamped the surrounding area and did what they could to make the traffic flow easier with what they had to work with, and what they speculated the capacity would be. I'm hoping this addition will be of similar style and forethought. However I just can't get past my last few visits to the park the past couple years where it was so busy I found myself almost annoyed that me and my crew had a hard time enjoying ourselves. I know this new parking structure is going to deal with the traffic outside the park, but it's pretty obvious the Disneyland park was not designed for the amount of people it packs in these days, especially with the size increase of folks in 2016. California Adventure did a lot better with this, but still. There are just so many people, and so many lines for everything. It's great to have the park practically 10 minutes away, but with it's popularity come dire consequences. I'm sure there will be days here and there where it's not packed, but the days it is, I'd rather just not be there.

New "Infinity" ride from KMG

It could, but it never will. I guess it's fun to imagine... *is* You guys with your nitpicky facts, I'd have to swear that's an internet thing started by coaster enthusiasts! -

Well they're not wrong. IMO it probably is one of the worst coasters currently operating. As far as worst coasters ever, I think Magic Mountain might take the cake with both Flashback, and Psyclone. I was a young spry kid when I rode these and even then I was like WTF? How are these rides even allowed to be open? Did you say, NEW ERECTIONS?? [youtu_be] [/youtu_be] -
Well I'm going to do my best to work this out for you even though I haven't been to the park since February, but have been a Season Pass holder for about 10 years. If you're not going to do Rev with the headseat, I believe there is a separate line for those riders, through the exit, which shouldn't be too long throughout the day. In that case you can ride it at any time, and I wouldn't go there first. Instead I would hustle up the hill and ride Ninja, and Superman. OR head to the right and do Goliath, Lex, and TC. Both approaches are interchangeable. Sups will have a longer line as the day goes on, as will Goliath, so it's kind of a pick your poison. To me Goliath's line is more bearable than Supermans. TC's line has never been over an hour for me. If X2's line is more than an hour when you walk up to it at any point during the day, wait until 30 minutes before park closing, and head there. It's a great way to end the day. With that being said, we all know a dark ride does not belong at Magic Mountain. It's not going to be maintained. It's not going to open anywhere as well as they advertise it. It's not going to do anything for attendance. If they're really going to do one of those dumb rides I'd rather they invest in a park facelift for the 2017 season, demolish and upgrade bathrooms, beautify the park in places that need it, get that stupid GCI in the corner back together, and focus on putting in a kick ass coaster for 2018. The park does not need some half-assed over promised and under-delivered black eye in the back of the park!

I'm sorry man, maybe it's how you write, but I have a very hard time understanding what you're talking about. This water slide does not need a latching OTSR. I think if they would have just installed a seatbelt like the ones on Intamin rides like Millenium Force, or RMC's, that you buckle up before pulling down the lap restraint, this whole situation would have been avoided. If the raft were to flip, you could easily unlatch yourself just like you would in a car, to keep from drowning. I think it was irresponsible on the parks part, as well as the safety departments part, to allow a ride to open that goes 65 MPH with only a velcro restraint. In fact, it's borderline insane that this ride even opened that way.

New "Infinity" ride from KMG
DoubleDown replied to theredskull84's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
THAT IS FREAKING INSANE! I actually didn't believe it would go fully vertical until I saw it. It made no sense to me how something so big could invert like that, with such an average looking motor and such a small counterweight. Looks like the ride cycle is super long too, I wonder how much it is to ride? I'd prolly pay up to $20 for a ride. I would definitely ride it...ONCE! Thanks for sharing! -
When your raft flips and you are upside down, head underwater; you will be happy you are able to release the restraint yourself and not wait for a ride operator with a key to find you. Exactly. I'm talking about the seat belts themselves that click in and squeeze out. Not restraints that you need a ride operators help or a key to get out of. They are just as easy to release as any seatbelt in a car, and they won't come undone during the ride.

One of my favorite part about theme parks and memories being a kid is getting in line 5 minutes before the park closes to get that last ride in. lol Magic Mountain would close at 10 and we'd still be in line for X2 at 11. -
Wow, I think the velcro restraints are unacceptable. Something like the seatbelts they use on Intamins I think would be the appropriate restraint. Bringing up velcro restraints I was always amazed nobody ever got hurt on the rapids rides like Bigfoot and Roaring Rapids by getting out and moving around. Even at the higher speeds that a previous member was talking about while including the videos, it just does not seem like the kid was flung out due to airtime. Maybe he was scared or tried to get out. Was he sitting in the back of the raft?

Wow, usually I hate being wrong, but in this case, it's a good thing! Glad to hear CP's got the cable snappage repair down to a science! A week+? My ass! -

Yah, that's what I meant about it being down for a week+. There are more factors at play than just getting the cable replaced. Nice! Thanks for that video, I watched the whole thing. Learn something new every day! Yes, I was referring to aircraft carriers. Thought that was clear. -

Definitely looks like a cable snap. If so, that'll prolly be a week+ of downtime. If it was Six Flags, probably down for the season. Glad nobody was hurt. This probably won't be making the news because of that, and that's a good thing. Guessing the train didn't make it over the top... It actually is very dangerous to have a cable snap on this type of ride with how much horsepower and tension it has on it. What's crazy to me is the Airforce uses cables the same way with steam power, but they definitely don't seem to be as problematic, otherwise you'd have multi-million dollar jets falling into the water on launch. I'm guessing they have the funds to replace the cable more frequently, where as the park just inspects it and pretty much goes until it breaks. I don't want to say for sure, but I think in the future the cable launch will be discontinued. Considering the costs and danger parks don't want to endure. If the train came back down, at it's speed backward, having an object like a cable on the track could cause not only immediate stops to cause injury but a possible derailment of the train, kind of like Ninja at Magic Mountain. -
I don't think there's a way to keep from greying out on Tatsu's pretzel roll. I wouldn't say I grey out, but I know what you mean. It screws with my equilibrium every time and I'd consider myself a seasoned veteran rider. Sometimes when I'd ride it after some brownies , it would literally send me into a seizure like state that was unlike anything I've ever experienced on a coaster. I just freeze up in whatever position I'm in and can't move. I'm perfectly fine once the rides over, but during the ride it's a trip. Tatsu and X2 are pretty much the only rides that terrify me, but it doesn't keep me from riding. I actually kind of freak out on Tatsu after the horseshoe turn, because I know what's soon coming next. I don't think they've ever stopped me from bringing a water bottle into the park. I'd definitely use a locker for X2, it's only a buck, I don't even risk it on that ride. And Tatsu may be sufficient for velcro or buttoned pockets, I don't think it has lockers near it anymore anyway. I actually lost one of my favorite cell phones the Motorola Razor on Tatsu, it exploded into pieces, but it was just in my regular pockets and I should have known better. I think with velcro or buttons (like cargo shorts) you should be good on pretty much every ride. Zippered pockets are ideal. I would suggest the same for Twisted Colossus and Batman as well.
